[Bug 2067124] [NEW] Distribution upgrade nuked nvidia drivers and borked packages.

2024-05-24 Thread Hamza Lakhani
Public bug reported:

The prior Nvidia proprietary drivers 545-open were nuked from my system,
and I can only use the 535 proprietary drivers post-upgrade from 23.10
to 24.04. This was not a clean upgrade and may necessitate an in-place
upgrade or system reinstallation. ubuntu-drivers, when instructed to
reinstall the specific drivers defaulted to the 535 drivers, and it is
infuriating.

[Bug 1786060] [NEW] grub installation always fails .

2018-08-08 Thread Hamza
Public bug reported:

I have a PC with 1Tera hard disk and used to work on windows 10 .. 2 days ago I
tried to install Ubuntu using USB ( i tried FAT32 and NTFS Modes .. I don't
actually know what they mean but tried both as grub always fails to get
installed ) .. I didn't change any settings at this point .. I used my C
partition (100 GB) to install Ubuntu on it by dividing it to 10GB swap and 90GB
as ext4 root ...
my problem started when a warning appeared asking me if i want to force UEFI
Installtion and i choosed "continue in UEFI mode" then the i had this error "
'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/. without the
GRUB Boot loader, the installed system will not boot. " i cancelled installtion
and tried another one but this time i choosed "Go back" rather than continue in
UEFI Mode .. and i got another error that grub installtion failed .. i even
changed UEFI Mode to Legacy mode and the same issue happened again :) i don't
understand what i'm doing but i had to try :D

[Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-10-29 Thread Hamza
Can't log out with wily-proposed update. The update may have a problem
with gdm(I am using Ubuntu GNOME 15.10). Fedora 22 had the same problem
with gdm but then they solved it by applying a different patch or
disabling SELinux.

This can help: https://bluehatrecord.wordpress.com/2015/09/17

[Bug 1032276] Re: [nvidia] Graphics freeze when I close or minimize a window

2015-10-09 Thread hamza alloush
This bug must be related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1171451
And, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1314587

Since lots of users reported they fixed their problems using the
solution, I.e enable desktop item.

So please look at it, and I'm waiting for propert report to this bug,
like a way to instantiate co compiz from the command line, maybe
compiled compiz in debug mode By isnatiating

[Bug 1032276] Re: [nvidia] Graphics freeze when I close or minimize a window

2015-10-08 Thread hamza alloush
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

it happens if i disable Desktop Item like so:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false

i have an updated system, my specs are Acer 4830tg laptop with discrete
Nvidia Optimus technology, but the bug happens when i'm using integrated
graphics as well.

each time i minimize or close a window it freezes, maybe i can come up
with a more comprehensize bug report? but how do i debug the segfault of
Nautilus?

btw, it got fixed when i re-enabled Desktop icons: gsettings set
org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true

I think Arty's comment has some merit.

[Bug 1408894] Re: pre-grid size of application window is lost, when restoring an application in maximized mode and then moving to left/right edge using alt+super keybind

2015-01-08 Thread hamza alloush
here's an attachment of screenshot, step by step, using chromium as
example:

1) start application in maximized mode.

2) move window to a grid on the left side of the screen using
ctrl+super+left

3) drag window away using cursor from gridded postion, window collapses
instead of retaining pre-gridded size.

[Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2013-07-30 Thread Hamza
Will this land in 13.10? It must not be that hard. This bug should have
been fixed already. Unity launcher can perceive a file you are trying to
drag and drop from a nautilus window. We can dragdrop a file to the
trash icon, and it works.

This bug makes Unity useless. If we want to dragdrop a file from
Archieve Manager to desktop, we have to make all windows minimized or to
open the Desktop directory in a nautilus window, why?

As Pablo Almeida wrote, this must be an easy fix, obviously.

2013-07-30 Thread Hamza
@johnlea ; as said above, @pabloalmeidaff9 wants a confirmation to start
trying to fix this bug. I stated I agreed with him, giving some
additional information. I think, the information I gave about the trash
icon would be helpful for someone who will try to fix it.

What I posted was a comment and comments must be gratefully accepted,
too.
