Yes, it is not very clearly stated or warned that the user of this package has to manually update the plugin by commanding: update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree Or do you mean that although a new version has been released a couple of days ago, still the plugin are not updated because it is not "verified" by the packaged maintainer(s), what ever it means. Yes, thanks, I will do it soon. In the mean time, I just tested Ubuntu 8.04.4 "Hardy Heron" i386 live session and the CPU does not hang and the playback works! Recording through laptop stereo mic does not work (only crackling noise). Just to guess, could the bug be related to some repair efforts related to mics? I think System76 has sold these Compals or its' sister model a couple of years ago. Could they know something about how to fix this bug? The Hardy was supported until 12 May 2011 and I first reported this bug against Lucid in the autumn 2011. Yes, it also happens in Quantal live session. [Bug 882566] Re: [Compal jfl92] CPU stalls in almost every minute: all processing stops, display jams, sound is breaking up.
apport information ** Description changed: In syslog I was instructed to announce ALSA-developers: snd_pcm_delay returned exceptionally high value. In the same time my VLC player ate all of the available ram and had to be killed. A bug has come back to my Compal JFL92 in 10.04 (I cannot say, was it in the time of release already) and occurs also in live-CD sessions of 11.04 and 11.10. If there is not a continuous input (moving mouse/touchpad or pressing keys), the system kind of jams (in 11.10 my screen jams like a freeze-frame: eg. seconds/minutes in the clock and gnome-system-monitor are not moving) and the music I am listening sounds like coming from a broken CD (skipping/jumping a bit back in 10.04) or like a jammed phonograph/vinyl record (in 11.10). Quite amazing, isn't it? It might have something to do with kernel and chipset/motherboard. I remember, that In 9.04 the OS did not even continue loading if I was not ready to start moving my finger in the touchpad during splash to release the jam. [Bug 882566] Re: [Compal jfl92] sound is breaking up
apport information ** Description changed: In syslog I was instructed to announce ALSA-developers: snd_pcm_delay returned exceptionally high value. [Bug 496256] Re: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise, Raring somehow depending on modem firmware
More testing is still needed. One CS-15 stick got nicely mode switched by kernel v3.12-rc1, but the other stick has to be physically pluged in and out tens of time until the mode get switched. Could there be some hardware differences within CS-15 modems? There is one visible difference between the sticks: the better one has numbers printed (090426) on the metal plate above SIM card (and the IMEI code of the better stick is about 40 000 bigger). After waking up from suspend to RAM the modem has to be physically pluged out and in in order to establish a connection with Network Manager. [Bug 496256] Re: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise, Raring somehow depending on modem firmware
apport information ** Tags added: running-unity ** Description changed: Binary package hint: network-manager Installation done in Jaunty does not work anymore in Karmic. Also installation (like in Jaunty) from a .deb file shipped within the USB modem itself can not be done, because partition in the USB modem is not mounted automatically and cannot be mounted via Nautilus. [Bug 496256] Re: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise, Raring somehow depending on modem firmware
I tried usb live session of 32-bit Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) and saw a segfault (kernel, usb_modeswitch_dispatcher, libc-2.17) when pluging physically the CS-15 out and immediately within 1–2 seconds back in. Two times the mode was switched! But then even more than ten plug in and out attempts did not make the modem usable. So, pretty useless as a modem still. Log about segfault is from attached mode-switched-on-Raring.txt: Sep 19 10:13:53 ubuntu kernel: [ 236.649206] usb_modeswitch_[4011]: segfault at 0 ip b75b66f1 sp bfa68b4c error 4 in libc-2.17.so[b7538000+1ad000] ** Attachment added: "segfault" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/496256/+attachment/3828809/+files/mode-switched-on-Raring.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496256 Title: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise, Raring somehow depending on modem firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/496256/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 496256] Re: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise depending on firmware
Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), thank you for your effort. Could you elaborate what is the point in flashing the BIOS on laptop? I can assure you, the malfunction of CS-15 is not dependent on the hardware platform on witch the modem is tried to be used. The modem could be used somehow with some 2.6.x kernels, although it has probably always been unstable. By the way, the firmware on my CS-15 modems was the current R2.17 when doing the tests earlier this week. So, is there development going on to make this, still an efficient, modem to be usable? Or is it finally time to say goodbye to Nokia? ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-v1.06 ** Tags added: amd64 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496256 Title: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise depending on firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/496256/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 992639 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/992639 Good news: Updating the firmware of CS-15 from R2.10 to *current* R2.17 helped. Now in Lucid Lynx the CS-15 is working out of the box, i.e. the mode is switched automatically to 0x0612. If the connection turns out to be unstable, I will report it here later. With the older firmware CS-15 did not work in 13.04 Raring Ringtail (live session, 32-bit). The mode did not change even by "eject /dev/sr1" or "sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0421 product=0x0612". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496256 Title: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic, Natty, Precise depending on firmware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/496256/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882566] Re: [Compal jfl92] sound is breaking up
I tested this again today. No problems in Quantal live session using GUI. Although, when I first time started to suspend by closing the lid, soon this sound problem could be heard for about a second before suspending advanced and the music stopped. It might be relevant, that during this first suspend stuff was read from DVD, which did not happen during following suspend tests. So, then I woke up the machine and continued the testing. Interesting was that after pressing Fn + F3 music jammed for five seconds. Fn+F3 should mean "Switch output display device", but actually there is not a second display attached to this laptop. The five seconds jam (both sound and graphical jam) occured every time those keys were pressed. The jam lasted for five seconds even if I pressed some keys or touched touchpad. If I went to text based user interface (tty1) and pressed Fn+F3 then this jam was like before: it could last more than five seconds and was "randomly" repeated. On this occasion, touching touchpad or pressing something on the keyboard released the jam. All the above is at least double checked today. If I first did not suspend, the jams could not be started. Pressing Fn+F3 caused only a minor disturbance to music that was playing. It might be relevant to point that iwl4965 Microcode SW error are detected as the jam starts. There is some syslog attached. Just to mention, the Ubuntu graphics shown during loading the OS, is shown without disturbance/corruption when booting to Quantal. ** Attachment added: "Two parts from syslog" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882566/+attachment/3433381/+files/Quantal-live.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882566 Title: [Compal jfl92] sound is breaking up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882566/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 945582] Re: MythTV Status doesn't work with MythTV 0.25
When using the long-term support version 12.04 Precise Pangolin one might find these lines helpful: # check the status: if /usr/bin/lynx -dump localhost:6544/Status/GetStatusHTML | grep -e "is watching Live TV" -e "and is recording"; then echo "Recording Now"; fi # In this year, 2012, one can use these funny lines to get the time of the next recording in a decent format. # You have to first do the complete conversion of mythtv-status as instructed in the comment #4 above: # scheduled next: mythtv-status | grep " " | (read -n 19 i; echo $i;) | cut -c 12-16 > ~/recordings1-time.txt; # Day mythtv-status | grep " " | (read -n 19 i; echo $i;) | cut -c 5-6 > ~/recordings1-dd.txt; # Month mythtv-status | grep " " | (read -n 19 i; echo $i;) | cut -c 8-9 > ~/recordings1-mm.txt; # in the end in a decent format: echo 2012-$(cat ~/recordings1-mm.txt)-$(cat ~/recordings1-dd.txt) $(cat ~/recordings1-time.txt) > ~/recordings1-date.txt; -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945582 Title: MythTV Status doesn't work with MythTV 0.25 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv-status/+bug/945582/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 945582] Re: MythTV Status doesn't work with MythTV 0.25
A problem with the workaround presented in comment #4 is the output time format, which is not understood by a command line program called date. >From http://localhost:6544/Status/GetStatus one perhaps could get ISODate formatted times. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945582 Title: MythTV Status doesn't work with MythTV 0.25 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv-status/+bug/945582/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
