[Bug 835949] Re: Connect button is not enabled in the wireless password dialog after a disconnect
That looks like it's because your device is detecting a WEP password for the AP. Is this how it's configured? That is correct. But it doesn't enable the Connect button even when I enter the correct password. Not that I expect the password to be stored unencrypted, but when I enter the correct number of characters, the button remains disabled. Is the password configured statically in the connection's settings? Yes it is. In fact if I select Cancel in the dialog, Ubuntu eventually connects on its own. So I don't think this is a serious bug. Perhaps it would be better if the dialog did not show up at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/835949 Title: Connect button is not enabled in the wireless password dialog after a disconnect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/835949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 835949] Re: Connect button is not enabled in the wireless password dialog after a disconnect
In fact if I select Cancel in the dialog, Ubuntu eventually connects on its own. By the way this was not the behaviour when I filed the bug. At that time it would not reconnect after a Cancel, and trying to select the network and connecting again would not work. I can confirm now that this has nothing to do with the gnome settings. I rebooted into recovery, then rebooted normally without changing anything; and everything worked fine. [Bug 733278] Re: Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed
does i is you configuring the display in your user session or of the login screen? I configured the display in the user session after logging in. The next time I boot, if the second (external) display is not connected, the login screen does not show up at all. The laptop display remains powered off. It could be an xorg problem as you say. But 1. The workarounds that worked are for gnome configuration and not Xorg configuration. 2. The Xorg logs don't indicate any error, and are the same for the case when the login screen shows up and for the case when it doesn't. I will attached both. Xorg.log.old is when the login screen didn't show up, Xorg.log is from after I changed .config/monitors.xml and I was able to use the machine. ** Attachment added: Xorg log file from when login screen does not show up https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/733278/+attachment/1901632/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733278 Title: Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The description for the earlier attachment is incorrect. That's the one from when the screen /does/ show up. [Bug 733278] Re: Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed
You do have a point there. But I believe this affects the display as a whole and is not specific to the banner. I don't know much about how this works. If I understand correctly, the user configuration files would not be read at all until I login right? Is it possible that the last state is maintained somewhere, perhaps pointing to the user files? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733278 Title: Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 733278] [NEW] Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I use a laptop with an external monitor. When using the external monitor, the display is configured to be on the external monitor only. If I disconnect the external monitor, or even if I shut down and then reboot with the external monitor disconnected, the display does not show up on the laptop monitor at all. This used to work fine in Maverick, so I guess it's a regression in Natty Alpha 3. Workarounds: 1. Switch the display to be on the laptop monitor only before disconnecting or shutting down, or 2. Boot into recovery mode and modify .config/monitors.xml and set primary to yes; then reboot in normal mode. Please let me know if any more information is required. [Bug 733278] Re: Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed
Is this reproducible? Yes. I am able to reproduce this every time. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? I suppose it would be helpful if you have a laptop and an external display. Here are the steps: i) Configure the display to run on the external monitor only, and switch the display on the laptop monitor off. ii) Shut down the laptop. iii) Disconnect the external display and boot. The login screen does not show up as the laptop display remains switched off. Do you get the issue if you don't use the display capplet Using xrandr, for example? I haven't tried this, and since this is the weekend, I'm not in a position to try it out until Monday (the external monitor is at the office). delete the xml config on disk I haven't tried this either, but it works if I delete the .gconf and .gnome2 folders.
