[Bug 1873325] Re: update-initramfs complains of missing amdgpu firmware files

2020-06-11 Thread Harry Skelton
This is plaguing my system as well. Doing updates gives the errors. Not
sure I want to perform a get:clone due to the software I have loaded and
that it seems to be an issue with the new kernel.

[Bug 995169] Re: master output volume doesn't affect actual volume

Same problem. No fix seems to help link the Master output to my
Headphones or PCM Can control via volume control app, but my volume
wheel, which controls the Master volume, does nothing for my headphone
output.

[Bug 673302] Re: appmenu-gtk breaks dynamically created Emacs Gtk+ menus

2011-07-10 Thread Harry Skelton
The missing menus affect many programs. The terminal program, games,
and even Firefox. This is a major problem. Unity may want to have a
unified menu system, but thus far all my clients have demanded that I go
back to the Classic Ubuntu view.

I used terminal and right clicked the window and it showed a menu with
show menu checked - yet no menu. Toggling this does not change
anything. Games such as Gweled and others also lack top menus.

Hope you guys can fix this soon.

[Bug 54454] Re: ubuntu/gnome printing system is not able to print on more than 1 page in some cases

2009-03-31 Thread Harry Skelton
Site that it fails on is: www.pnc.com (banking site)

When you try to print the web page, which would cover more than one page
in print out, it does not print everything. It only prints one page and
then dies.

A work-around would be to print to PDF then print the pdf file -
ignoring any print settings. This way you have greater control over the
PDF than what Firefox does.

Otherwise, configure firefox to have the option to shrink the entire web
page to one page.

[Bug 119433] Re: When I play a video, I get a green screen

2008-07-14 Thread Harry Skelton
FIXED:
Problem is two fold. First do the following to get the correct drivers:

...do this first...
sudo apt-get install totem
...then...
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
...then...
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

This should fit the bill and get your DVD player to read all DVD's.

The second problem is my controller card. An old Intel on the MB (OLD Compaq
machine).
Fix this with:

(as root or sudo it...)

vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Replace the Device section with: (assuming generic Kubuntu install)

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
# Driver i810
Driver intel
# BusID PCI:0:2:0
Option VideoRam 65536
Option CacheLines 1980
Option LinearAlloc 8160
EndSection

Although all you need really is the options to solve BadAlloc messages
and slow/stutters of the DVD

Then:

sudo apt-get install vlc

VLC works the best as a player.
Xine works but you have to tweak the settings a bit.
MPlayer uses xine, thus teaks.
Dragon Player work well - some interlace.
Totem works very well.

Enjoy.

[Bug 119433] Re: When I play a video, I get a green screen

2008-07-14 Thread Harry Skelton
Work-around posted. Should solve most issues.
Package still needs fixed to account for memory errors and playback.
Need to add script to add Option items in xorg.conf. If only through the
system configuration screens.

[Bug 119433] Re: When I play a video, I get a green screen

2008-07-13 Thread Harry Skelton
I get the same thing. Loaded libdvdread3, ran the install-css.sh
script. Did not load totem-xine.

I ran xine from the command line and got:

X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (XVideo)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 ()
Serial number of failed request: 14047
Current serial number in output stream: 14048

then xine dies. Mplayer will play audio with a green screen and dump
error messages to stderr about resources.

I never had this problem until I had to do a reload if Kubuntu and it performed
an upgrade.
Not sure if the problem is in the libdvdread3 library, or because they made a
change to the X11 interface.
