[Bug 1832812] Re: Locking and unlocking the screen is slow and stuttery

2020-08-28 Thread Hauke Wintjen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872796 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872796

Disabling 'desktop icons' from the extensions app did not work for me, but
renaming the
folder /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano did the trick.

The extension was already disabled. After folder renamed, login works
quick again. Thanks

A discussion at https://forum.manjaro.org/t/desktop-gnome-frequently-
get-frozen-few-seconds-and-works-again/81603/29 for manjaro seems to
nail down:

* It looks related to mutter (a gnome desktop component), since some guys
report that the freeze disappears when updating mutter.
* It does not seem to appear under under non-gnome desktop.

** Also affects: gnome-desktop
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

[Bug 1806860] [NEW] Pulseaudio module-jack-source unable to connect to jackd2

2018-12-05 Thread Hauke Wintjen
Public bug reported:

When installing jackd2 in ubuntu 18.04, i am unable to load the module-
jack-source.

Syslog gives me:

Dec 5 11:49:45 nvidion pulseaudio[7905]: JACK error >attempt to connect to
server failed<
Dec  5 11:49:45 nvidion pulseaudio[7905]: jack_client_open() failed.
Dec 5 11:49:45 nvidion pulseaudio[7905]: Failed to load module
"module-jack-source" (argument: ""): initialization failed.
Dec 5 11:49:45 nvidion pulseaudio[7905]: JACK error >connect(2) call to
/dev/shm/jack-1000/default/jack_0 failed (err=Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht
gefunden)<
Dec  5 11:49:50 nvidion pulseaudio[7905]: message repeated 5 times: [ JACK
error >connect(2) call to /dev/shm/jack-1000/default/jack_0 failed (err=Datei
oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden)<]
Dec  5 11:49:51 nvidio

So the path to the shared memory location is not as expected.

When jackd2 is running i have:

hcw@nvidion:$ cd /dev/shm/
hcw@nvidion:/dev/shm$ ls
jack-1000-0  jack_sem.1000_default_1000_0_system
jack_sem.1000_default_jack_rack  jack_sem.1000_jack_default_1000_0_system
jack-1000-1  jack_sem.1000_default_freewheel
jack_sem.1000_default_qjackctl   jack-shm-registry
jack_default_1000_0  jack_sem.1000_default_jack_mixer
jack_sem.1000_default_system

So it seems module-jack-source / sink are guessing the wrong shared memory
paths to the jackd2 server..

So sadly neither 4.8.0-040800rc1.201608072231 nor
4.8.0-040800rc2.201608142332 resolves the problem. Is there any kind of
log or debugging output I can send you?

[Bug 1611283] Re: entering crypto passphrase while notebook is mounted to docking station results in sleep state

2016-08-21 Thread Hauke Bruno
Thanks Paul, I don't know where that xorg tag came from.

I finally installed the latest 4.8rc1 and rc2 kernels and will be able
to update this bug tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't create the missing
logs via apport-collect, due to some missing python qt module.

[Bug 1611283] [NEW] entering crypto passphrase while notebook is mounted to docking station results in sleep state

2016-08-09 Thread Hauke Bruno
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to the current kernel (4.4.0-34-generic) I am not able
to log in to my Kubuntu 16.04 at a Lenovo T430 while it is mounted to a
docking station.

Ubuntu boots until I need to enter the passphrase for my crypted disk,
but anyhow the system then enters a sleep state (small moon icon is
blinking). Inside the docking station I am not able to leave that state.

Outside the docking station the problem doesn't occur.

While using the 4.4.0-31-generic kernel, everything works fine.

I am not sure how to debug that behavior, so if some more information is
needed please leave me a note.

Affects me too in Ubuntu 14.04 with cpufreqd 2.4.2-2ubuntu1.

Effect is that when AC power is restored, full performance mode is not
endabled so this is a major drawback for laptop users who which to
preserve energy when AC off and gain full performance when AC is on.

I haven't tried the patch, but it looks good to me.

Am I right that all kernels shipped with ubuntu like 3.13.0-32-generic
will get the UTS_UBUNTU_RELEASE_ABI set to the ubuntu version, in this
case 32 and the mainline kernels will get it set to 0.

[Bug 1347879] [NEW] Compile problem with external module and 031600rc5

2014-07-23 Thread Hauke
Public bug reported:

In #1327619 you added UTS_UBUNTU_RELEASE_ABI which works for your ubuntu
kernels.
I am also using the kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
mostly for testing compatibility with mainline kernels and with your kernel
3.16.0-031600rc5-generic I am getting the following error:

 !(LINUX_VERSION_CODE == KERNEL_VERSION(3,13,11)  UTS_UBUNTU_RELEASE_ABI

The code in the affected line in skbuff.h:333 looks like this:
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE  KERNEL_VERSION(3,14,0)  \
RHEL_RELEASE_CODE  RHEL_RELEASE_VERSION(7,0)  \
!(LINUX_VERSION_CODE == KERNEL_VERSION(3,13,11)  UTS_UBUNTU_RELEASE_ABI
30)

#endif

In the mainline kernel versions I do not need UTS_UBUNTU_RELEASE_ABI. I would
suggest you add the EXTRAVERSION into some header.
I assume most of the APIs are changed in the ubuntu stable kernels like
3.13.11.4 and not in the kernels like 3.13.0-32 which is based on it.

[Bug 1327619] Re: kernel version detection in module build

2014-07-16 Thread Hauke
Thanks for adding this, now I am able to automatically detect the
version. It would sill be better if this define would be in
include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h and not in
include/generated/utsrelease.h, because utsrelease.h is not there in non
ubuntu kernel and then an include generated/utsrelease.h will fail,
but I can include linux/vermagic.h which again includes
generated/utsrelease.h to circumvent this problem.

Instead of adding the ubuntu kernel version it would be better to add
the EXTRAVERSION, then this would also work for the kernel versions you
provide longterm support for.

[Bug 1327619] Re: kernel version detection in module build

2014-06-08 Thread Hauke
I saw that, but I am unable to parse this in the C preprocessor.

I could do something like this:

#if UTS_RELEASE == 3.15.0-5-generic
/* some code */
#else
/some code */
#endif

but that does not scale.

Having something like:

#define UTS_RELEASE_MINOR 5

would help, the rest is already in
include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h

[Bug 1327619] [NEW] kernel version detection in module build

2014-06-07 Thread Hauke
Public bug reported:

When building an external kernel module against an Ubuntu kernel it
would help to be able to include some special code for some specific
Ubuntu kernel version.

I want to ship a kernel module in source code which the user should be
able to compile against mainline kernels and various distribution
kernels like the Ubuntu kernel, it would help if there is some way to
identify the version of the Ubuntu kernel.

To identify the kernel version it creates a file in
include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h and then I can use something like:
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE = KERNEL_VERSION(3,14,0)
/* some code */
#else
/* some code */
#endif

The problem is that your kernel is not 100% API compatible with the
mainline kernel and in some cases such a detection is also needed based
on the Ubuntu kernel version used.

RedHat extended this file with some version information about the RHEL
kernel in use:

#define LINUX_VERSION_CODE 132640
#define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a)  16) + ((b)  8) + (c))
#define RHEL_MAJOR 6
#define RHEL_MINOR 5
#define RHEL_RELEASE_VERSION(a,b) (((a)  8) + (b))
#define RHEL_RELEASE_CODE 1541
#define RHEL_RELEASE 430

I would like to see something like this also in the Ubuntu kernel (e.g.
3.13.0-27-generic) and in the long term kernel versions (e.g. 3.13.11.2)
provided by Canonical.

My current problem is that I do not know if the kernel I am compiling against
has this backport in or not:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-trusty.git;a=commitdiff;h=f4c342cdce8acfaef2d89a800bb6a10128d802c8

Adding some version to the kernel will help the backports project.
https://backports.wiki.kernel.org/

This problem effects at least trusty, but probably all versions, having
such a feature in Debian would also be nice, but I have not checked.
SLES already has a similar feature.

[Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate

2014-01-25 Thread Jan Hauke Maase
Thank you, Blaster!

I was able to connect to my university WIFI. But after a bit of a use I
experience some kind of disconnect. My wifi keeps connected, but I'm not able
ping anything or connect to the internet / local LAN. Only a reconnect to the
wifi fixes this, but not for long. Tested on:
.Ubuntu 13.10
.Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
.openSUSE 13.1

On both HP and Lenovo Notebooks.

Have anybody had the same problem?

[Bug 1035943] [NEW] floating-point exception in some campaign scenarios

2012-08-12 Thread Hauke Henningsen
Public bug reported:

gl-117 (1.3.2-2.1ubuntu1, under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) crashes with a
floating point exception under some scenarios.

According to gdb, the error occurs:
#0  0x0041189b in game_timer (dt=0) at main.cpp:3662

Obviously, the FPE happens because in line 3662 the expression (2000/dt)
fails when dt is zero. The attached patch prevents game_timer being
called with a zero argument, yet I'm not sure whether this is the
right way to fix things.

** Affects: gl-117 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1023550] Re: Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-26 Thread Hauke Duden
I cannot send you the one we use on the server. However, this one should
work:

hosts = www.ubuntu.com
user = testuser
password = testpassword
dbname = testdb
query = SELECT toAddress FROM mailgw_aliases WHERE fromAddress='%s'

If you get the following error then the problem still persists:
www.ubuntu.com: Unknown MySQL server host 'www.ubuntu.com'

If you get a connection refused error (or similar) then you know that
the DNS name was resolved correctly and the error happens when the
connection is made (which likely fails because www.ubuntu.com probably
does not host a public mysql DB). So that means that the fix works.

[Bug 1023550] [NEW] Postfix missing libresolv in chroot jail

2012-07-11 Thread Hauke Duden
Public bug reported:

This is with Postfix 2.9.1-5 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

--- Setup to reproduce

- Configure postfix to use mysql for virtual alias maps
- Specify a DNS hostname instead of an IP address or localhost for hosts:

--- Symptoms:

All postfix mail routing actions fail. The log contains:

postfix/trivial-rewrite[20176]: warning: connect to mysql server
my.example.com: Unknown MySQL server host 'my.example.com' (2)
warning: mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_aliases.cf: table lookup problem
warning: virtual_alias_domains lookup failure

The same configuration works fine if you specify an IP address instead
of a DNS hostname.

--- Cause:

libresolv is missing from the postfix chroot jail. That causes the mysql
client library used by postfix to not be able to resolve any DNS names.

--- Workaround:

sudo cp -p /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libresolv*
/var/spool/postfix/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
sudo postfix restart

--- Expected fix:

Fix the postfix installation routines to include libresolv in the chroot jail.
I do not know enough about this to provide a ready-made patch, unfortunately.

** Affects: postfix (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

The not multiarch capable packages are not required by an multiarch package,
but just recommended so just installing this particular package without

aptitude install --without-recommends libqt4-sql
aptitude install wine
aptitude markauto libqt4-sql:i386

[Bug 883680] [NEW] Freezes (and Kernel panics) after Update to 11.10 probably caused by rt2800pci

2011-10-29 Thread Hauke Jung
Public bug reported:

Since the update to 11.10 I experienced random freezes and kernel panics.
At home this happened much less frequent than somewhere else.
I started netconsole and after some time i now have experienced a freeze (blank
screen, but no blinking Caps-Lock as it happens if the kernel panics).
Well, the netconsole log was very big and repeated very often, so i just cut
the last lines which hopefully will be sufficient.
You can see it here: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/500219/
I did a quick search and found this post:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-wireless/msg77438.html
Which says that this could be related to the rt2800pci driver.
I dont know how to turn off Powersaving of this driver, if you can tell me i
could try if this is a workaround for me.
If you need further assistance from me in locating the problem just tell me.

According to the guidelines:
1) Ubuntu 11.10
2) Linux wind 3.0.0-13-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Mon Oct 17 20:18:09 UTC 2011 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux
3) Obviously I would like to have a smoothly running OS.
4) Freezes and Kernel Panics happen.

When Nautilus tries to preview pdf files in thumbnails, sometimes
evince-thumbnailer grows to the memory limit and the system starts
swapping. Killing the process takes several minutes due to the memory
swapping. It does not happen always, maybe on every tenth time that I
open a folder containing pdfs in thumbnail view. This is on 64bit lucid.

I have no ideas if that is connected to the first problem. I'll do a new

[Bug 551179] Re: ReiserFS seems unsupported for root file system

2010-03-31 Thread Hauke Hell
An additional test with the very same cd that I used for the first try,
I did not encounter the problem again! It was another pc, but very
similar conditions. My guess about ReiserFS not being supported was
obviously wrong.

Unfortunately I don't understand what went wrong. I don't want to
perform the procedure again on the pc from the first try, because that
one is cleanly installed now (with Ext4) and doesn't have an empty
partition left. If I should get additional information, I'll post it
here.

If I should ever see a similar situation, I'll make photo, promised :-)

[Bug 551179] [NEW] ReiserFS seems unsupported for root file system

2010-03-29 Thread Hauke Hell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I installed Kubuntu 10.04 beta 1 x86_64 on an empty partition of a
computer usually running 8.04 using the test-based installer (Alternate
CD). As usual I choosed ReiserFS for the root file system. Installation
went fine, I confirmed to install the new boot manager.

When rebooting, it didn't reboot, Grub 2 complained about non-existent
things (I'm sorry to have the precise error message, somehow copy the
message was difficult on a non-running system).

Using the appropriate grub commands (root, initrd, linux) I could boot
the kernel of the new system, but this went into a kernel panic. The
message was about that the root file system could not be mounted.

Doing the very same installation procedure only with Ext4 for the root
fs, everything went fine, even grub 2 works now without any tweaking.

It seems that ReiserFS is not compiled into the new kernel and Grub 2
has some problem with that situation, too. Since there might be a good
reason not to support ReiserFS fully, I consider it a bug, that the
installer did't prevent me from setting up the system onto a file system
that is not supported.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 288011] Re: dns resolver does not support dnssec

2009-07-06 Thread Hauke Lampe

Here's one for the wishlist:

This patch allows applications to set the RES_USE_DNSSEC resolver
option, so that the resolver adds DO=1 in EDNS0 queries. EDNS0 needs to
be enabled with RES_USE_EDNS0 or options edns0 in /etc/resolv.conf

It does not include any form of DNSSEC validation.

This patch also adds options dnssec-ok for /etc/resolv.conf, though it
should be used only when really needed.

[Bug 395196] [NEW] EDNS0: res_nopt truncates buffer size incorrectly

2009-07-03 Thread Hauke Lampe
Public bug reported:

Resolver functions allow buffer sizes 65535 bytes. If RES_USE_EDNS0 is set,
res_nopt() truncates this value to 16 bit, resulting in an incorrect buffer
size advertised in EDNS query headers.

portable OpenSSH triggers this behaviour, as described here:
http://marc.info/?l=openssh-unix-devm=124625332427704w=2

openbsd-compat/getrrsetbyname() sets a buffer size of 65536 bytes. In the glibc
stub-resolver, it is eventually passed on as anslen to __res_nopt() in
resolv/res_mkquery.c:
[...]
NS_PUT16(anslen  0x, cp);  /* CLASS = UDP payload size */

and sent out to the recursor (UDPsize: 0xf 0x == 0)

The problem lies within the libc stub resolver. I patched mine, so it always
