@chrs How exactly did you add the "nomodeset" to GRUB after you
installed?

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-06-23 Thread Het Irv
Add this to the One Hundred Paper Cuts Project to allow for more
visibility. I know that this may not fit the "easy to fix" part of the
projects description, but it does negatively affect the user experience.
I am hoping that Karmic will have a solution.

Fully up to date Intrepid +1.

I would really like to see this bug get fixed, the response time on this
on makes me feel like I am on Windows again.

[Bug 237215] Re: B43 and Nvidia Drivers will not work together

2008-10-24 Thread Het Irv
Sorry, but I have changed the hardware in this computer since I reported
this, so I can't post and thing of any relevance right now. I think I
still have the hardware, so I may be able to change it back and try it
in 8.10, I have a copy of he Beta from a few weeks ago, will that be
okay?

If you don't see anything from me in a week then consider this a dead
issue, since I probably will have either forgotten or didn't have the
time to try it.

[Bug 237215] Re: B43 and Nvidia Drivers will not work together

2008-06-03 Thread Het Irv
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new

  1) Description: Ubuntu 8.04
   Release:8.04

  2)nvidia-glx-new:
Installed: 169.12+2.6.24.13-18.41
Candidate: 169.12+2.6.24.13-18.41

  3)Expected

Install Wireless Restricted Drivers using a wireless bridge to access
the internet, then Install Nvidia Drivers. Reboot to a working computer
with 3D acceleration and Wireless access

  4)Happens

Install Wireless Restricted Drivers using a wireless bridge, check the
drivers to confirm they are working properly (they are). Install Nvidia
Drivers and reboot. After rebooting, wireless is slow to authenticate
with the AP, and if and when it does, the connection is not stable and
- rarely goes above 100Kb/s (normal = 500Kb/s).
+ rarely goes above 100Kb/s (normal = 500Kb/s). Nvidia Drivers work
+ correctly.

No security is employed on the wireless card, and the only other clues I
have found is a line in /var/log that says "Old device 'wlan0'
activating, won't change." and alot of bad packets are shown in
  Wireshark (more than 1/3).

I seriously doubt that there is anything wrong with the card because if
I reinstall the OS and only install the Wireless Drivers, it works
perfectly. Unfortunately disabling the Nividia Drivers after installing
them does not solve the problem.

[Bug 214882] Re: klauncher crashed with SIGSEGV in XCloseDisplay()

2008-04-18 Thread Het Irv
Happened today while I was trying to rebuild top panel, it was deleted
on purpose and I was adding the Volume Control Icon to the panel, Gnome
froze when I clicked on the add button while VC was selected (it worked
for everything else I put on the panel, clock, menu, icons). I
restarted the Xserver and I would not come back up, so I had to do a
hard reset.

Desktop CD, I also noticed it when using the Xubuntu Live CD, on each I
chose the option to install directly to the Hard Disk without going to
the Live CD desktop. I haven't checked Ubuntu Live CD yet, but I have a
