[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2017-01-27 Thread Ian Nicholson
Just ran into this today, make sure to grant Firefox rw access to
/dev/shm/org.chromium.*, I first tried just with write access and it wasn't
enough.
Is there something I can do to propose a fix? It's just the single line from
#3.

[Bug 1610698] [NEW] password warning when numlock is on

2016-08-07 Thread Ian Nicholson
Public bug reported:

When logging into a gui session or unlocking the screen of an existing
session, the password field displays a warning notification when
numlock is on. This should be reversed, as the non-numeric functions of
the numpad are irrelevant at that point to the user(home/end,
pageup/pagedown), while the numeric input(0-9) are potentially quite
important to the user.

[Bug 1542684] [NEW] "listen on all" does not work with opensmtpd portable /etc/smtpd.conf

2016-02-06 Thread Ian Nicholson
Public bug reported:

Attempting to start opensmtpd with the suggested line "listen on all" in
/etc/smtpd.conf results in the error "smtpd: invalid virtual ip or
interface: all"

Specifying either "listen on 0.0.0.0", "listen on ::", or "listen on

listen on all network adapters for all IP versions.

[Bug 1407192] [NEW] firefox icon frequently replaced by placeholder

2015-01-02 Thread Ian Nicholson
Public bug reported:

Several times over the last week I have noticed that the when I start firefox,
the default icon is replaced by a grey square with a question mark in the
center as shown in the attached image.
The only fix I've found is to unlock firefox from the launcher, quit the
program, search for firefox in the dash, manually drag the icon onto the
launcher, and then open it(i.e. if I start firefox directly from the dash, the
grey icon appears on the launcher again).
I haven't noticed this occurring with any other program.

[Bug 1404088] [NEW] Adding new location to date/time picker does not consistently autocomplete

2014-12-18 Thread Ian Nicholson
Public bug reported:

When I navigate to System Settings - Time and Date - Clock - Choose
Locations, I'm prompted to add or remove a location from the current
locations. When I click the new location icon, I can enter a location
name, however I'm only offered an autocomplete list when there are three
letters typed. For example, I would like to add Beijing to the list,
but I'm only presented with an autocomplete list when I type Bei, and
Beijing is not on that list. Any more or fewer letters and the list
disappears. If I type anything besides Bei, I'm not presented with a
list of possible options either.

I was able to work around this by disabling home folder encryption, but
that's far from an optimal fix.

[Bug 1393080] Re: Keyboard not recognized during FDE password entry

2014-11-20 Thread Ian Nicholson
I've noticed that my system is exhibiting the following behavior:
In the BIOS, the numlock light turns on, and the capslock/numlock/scrolllock
indicators reflect a change in state when I toggle those keys. The keyboard
also registers input. In short, everything works fine.
In GRUB, all of the above holds true as well.
Once I'm prompted for my FDE password, any numlock/scrolllock/capslock lights
that are on turn off, and cannot be toggled. IF however, I toggle the numlock
key after the kernel loads but before I'm prompted for the password, the
password prompt will appear, but the cursor will be located in the upper left
corner of the screen and my password will appear in plaintext.

Additionally, if I use the recovery mode, I can boot the kernel and I'll
be prompted for the password without the graphical interface, from where
I can enter it normally and then select Normal Boot to continue
booting.

Is it possible that this is actually a bug in plymouth or something like
that? Otherwise, it does seem to be related to lp://1383851

[Bug 1156674] Re: QtCreator: ptrace: Operation not permitted. in Debug mode

2014-08-04 Thread Ian Nicholson
For the record, this error occurs when I tried to run the default C++ project.
Ubuntu is shipping a development environment that is broken for a common use
case. Is there some way to just disable ptrace so that I can build and run a
project? Maybe that could be set as default.

[Bug 1076501] Re: Dovecot SSL Configuration has changed

2014-07-29 Thread Ian Nicholson
Upstream documentation located at
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/SSL/DovecotConfiguration

It looks like ssl_cert and ssl_key are used now instead of ssl_cert_file
and ssl_key_file. This is fixed in the docs for 14.04, so I'll confirm
what is correct for 12.04 and 10.04, as all other versions have EOL'd.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pitti/sru-test

There are no other packages in it at the moment, so it's safe to
upgrade. If you only want this specific package, grab one of these
 (depending on your architecture):

 https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+archive/sru-test/+files/systemd-shim_3%2Breal-0ubuntu1pitti1_i386.deb

 https://launchpad.net/~pitti/+archive/sru-test/+files/systemd-shim_3%2Breal-0ubuntu1pitti1_amd64.deb

and install with sudo dpkg -i /path/to/downloaded/package/systemd-
 shim_*.deb.

Do you still get the problem with this? Does it behave any different?

[Bug 1156674] Re: QtCreator: ptrace: Operation not permitted. in Debug mode

2013-09-17 Thread Ian Nicholson
The solution by Simon K stops the ptrace error, but I then I would get prompted
that:
The debugger could not load the debugging helper library.
The debugging helper is used to nicely format the values of some Qt and
Standard Library data types. It must be compiled for each used Qt version
separately. In the Qt Creator Build and Run preferences page, select a Qt
version, expand the Details section and click Build All. with options to open
qt options, turn off helper usage, show details, and continue anyway.
If I selected continue anyway, the project appears to begin debugging, but
does not execute.

[Bug 1217180] [NEW] incorrect usage of notifications

Just remove the older versions, keep two of the newest.
Run sudo apt-get autoremove linux-image-3.8.0-23-generic for each of the

This should free space on boot partition...

That's definitely the reason, but it's not a long-term solution. It's
not 1995, we shouldn't expect users to have to manually remove packages
just because they want an encrypted FS.

Re: [Bug 304477] Re: Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for Clear

2013-05-06 Thread Ian Nicholson
Think about it this way: having to use a different keybinding to clear
the cache is much less irritating than having (potentially) multiple
days of communication disappear with no ability to recall. Also, I would
guess that the number of people who use ctrl+L as a shortcut for the url
bar is much higher than the number of people who use it to clear a text
buffer.
Basically, a shortcut as frequently used as ctrl-L should not be a
destructive action that can't be reverted.
Probably the best solution would be a configurable shortcut for clearing
the cache.
