2010-04-20 Thread Igor Goldenberg
** Description changed:

Encryption/decryption script amaespipe from amanda-common package uses

[Bug 282214] Re: Nvidia does not work with Geforce 6100

I have nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 from Intrepid updates repository

2008-10-31 Thread Igor Goldenberg
I have the same issue with nVidia 6100 and Intrepid nvidia-glx-177. X
window starts but on black screen I can see only 2px line at the top.

What is the shame Xorg's driver 'nv' also doesn't work correctly with
6100 and my LCD Benq FP72E, allowing only 800x600 resolution for 17 LCD
(with native res 1280x1024).

What I can do now is just to use 'vesa' driver for X (of course without
any 2D/3D hardware acceleration). But at least it works with 1280x1024.

[Bug 226399] [NEW] [hardy] proftpd crashes when used directive Class with netmask

2008-05-04 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Public bug reported:

I have standalone proftpd server. After upgrading to 8.04 (from 7.10)
server begins to crash while users connect. At this time in proftpd.log
I have:

May 04 12:08:53 ftp proftpd[24516] ftp.454.ru (195.200.95.33[195.200.95.33]):

May 04 12:08:53 ftp proftpd[24516] ftp.454.ru (195.200.95.33[195.200.95.33]):
FTP session closed.

ProFTPD terminating (signal 11)
May 04 12:09:02 ftp proftpd[24537] ftp.454.ru (195.200.95.33[195.200.95.33]):
FTP session closed.

After digging in my .conf file I found a reason of crashes: line 'From
10.0.0.0/8' in Class block. Changing /8 to any other suffix changes
nothing but just 10.0.0.0 (or any other single IP) works well. Also any
address with mask suffix causes crash. But after rebuilding proftpd from
sources with excluded 'class_rules_fix.dpatch' from directive with mask
again works well as before.

So I think patch 'class_rules_fix' has some bugs.

[Bug 159434] Re: Unable to set legacy subpixel rendering

2007-12-11 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Oh, thanks for pointing to that message! It seems to there is a real bug
in the libcairo patches. In fact, the original Ubuntu-modified
changeset to Cairo has a significant error where they use
FC_LCD_FILTER_* definitions where they should be using FT_LCD_FILTER_*
to pass to FT_Library_SetLcdFilter. I checked the headers, and the
definitions don't correspond. This leads me to believe that their
changes never did what they were supposed to in the first place. So
this problem relates to cairo package more. But there are small changes
for the fontconfig package have described in another bugreport on
freedesktop: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13566

It will be good if these fixes will be applied to ubuntu packages.

[Bug 128478] Flac should be upgraded to 1.2.0

2007-07-26 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flac

New version (1.2.0) of FLAC was released yesterday (25.07.2007). Info
from author:

FLAC 1.2.0 is out. There are a few new features and some speedups and
fixes, but more importantly, there are some small changes to the decoder
to pave the way for possible future compression improvements, so
applications developers are encouraged to upgrade (the API has not
changed). The changelog has all the details, but in summary:

- automatic SSE OS detection at runtime (so no need to specifically enable SSE
at compile time)
- small encoder and decoder speedups
- new --ignore-chunk-sizes option in flac will help with fb2k piped encoding to
flac.exe

It's important to upgrade to 1.2.0 for future 1.2.x branch
compatibility. Author's quote again:

a 1.2.0 decoder will be able to decode any 1.2.x streams, so upgrading
now means not having to when 1.2.x encoder improvements come out.

[Bug 57089] Re: Rate converter plugin missed in binary package

2006-08-27 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Good synthetic sample to test quality of resampling. If you hear noise after
third tone the resampling is not so good as it can be.
It's need to have soundcard w/o 44100 Hz native support, like many Creative
game cards or some integrated. If after aplay -D hw:0 udial.wav you get
warning about 44100 and 48000 Hz - you card can't play 44.1kHz directly. But in
this case you can hear as the sample must sounds (except it will sound a bit
quicker and higher).

[Bug 57797] Re: Should include aoTuV Release 1 patch

2006-08-26 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Yes, it will be very good to have aoTuV version of vorbis library in Ubuntu. As
Ogg Vorbis in Linux world is the main lossy audio codec - having best version
of it by default in Ubuntu will give great motive to use this brilliant open
source and patent free format. It's completely in the spirit of Ubuntu.
Vote for inclusion!

[Bug 57089] Rate converter plugin missed in binary package

2006-08-21 Thread Igor Goldenberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libasound2-plugins

Alsa-plugins starting version 1.0.11 contains rate plugin (which required
libsamplerate) to make high quality resampling to 48 kHz (base frequency to
dmix plug). But ubuntu source package alsa-plugins not depends on
libsamplerate0-dev and (if this package was installed) after building copying
only jack plugin from build tree.
Rate converter plugin can greatly increase quality of resampling compare to
default linear method and therefore must be build and packed (maybe in an own
package) by default.
