[Bug 929206] Re: unity; Failed to open file '/usr/share/virt-manager/pixmaps/virt-manager-icon.svg': No such file or directory

2014-11-16 Thread Imre Sándor
The problem still exists in Ubuntu 14.04 and virt-manager 0.9.5-1ubuntu.
Listing the files installed with virt-manager clearly shows that the file
indicated above (/usr/share/virt-manager/pixmaps/virt-manager-icon.svg) doesn't
get installed:

[Bug 1020883] Re: virt-manager does not start after 10.04 to 12.04 upgrade

2012-07-26 Thread Imre Sándor
Virt-manager simply displayed the output. In fact I was finally able to
sort out what went wrong. At some point back in an earlier installation,
certain parts of the virtual environment were installed under
/usr/local. That installation had not been removed with the upgrade. For
some unknown reason, the python libraries in that got pulled when virt-
manager was started and the version of those libraries were 0.600.0 (not
the one actually installed on my system).

In my case, the solution was to remove the remains of the old
installation. Afterwards, virt-manager started w/o problems, so your
problem does not seem to be related to mine.

out that both packages (base-files and base-passwd) got installed, but still,

It turned out, that base-passwd has a postinstall script that - during system
installation - populates /etc/passwd and /etc/group copying the files from
/usr/share/base-passwd

  if [ ! -e /etc/passwd ] ; then
- cp /usr/share/base-passwd/passwd.master /etc/passwd

+ install base-files
+

+ chown cannot resolv root:root.

For some unknown reason, the postinstall script of base-files runs BEFORE the
postinstall script of base-passwd in my installation, altough it does no such
thing in the standard precise installation.
The code fragment that does this installation is:
- x_core_install base-files base-passwd
+   x_core_install base-files base-passwd
(in a debootstrap script called precise - a link to a long unchanged script
called gutsy)

Modifying this script to have the two packages installed separatelly did the
trick:
- x_core_install base-passwd
- x_core_install base-files
+   x_core_install base-passwd
+   x_core_install base-files

Now, I can install my customized distro.

I would like your opinion on what could have gone wrong about it:
- Why the standard Ubuntu precise installs flawlessly while my reconstructed
distro doesn't? How is it, that the same procedure used to create a custom
distro suddenly went wrong with no apparent change in the components?

Ok, there might have been changes, but this area is very poorly documented so
I had to trial and error to find out how things work (and I still might be
wrong).

[Bug 1001131] [NEW] debootstrap fails to install customized Ubuntu

2012-05-18 Thread Imre Sándor
Public bug reported:

installable image.
Even with no changes in the CD tree, the created image fails to install. The

The installation stops at installing base-files and base-passwd (see attached

If I go back to the installation menu and select Install the base system, then

created a special debootstrap package with lots of debug messages. It turned
out that both packages (base-files and base-passwd) got installed, but still,
somehow the dpkg installing them failed.
It turned out, that base-passwd has a postinstall script that - during system

of /var/lib/dpkg

  mkdir -m 755 -p /var/lib/dpkg

In my log this shows as:

  Package libc6 is not installed.
Setting up base-passwd (3.5.24) ...

[Bug 838626] [NEW] cannot authenticate for update-manager

2011-09-01 Thread Imre Sándor
Public bug reported:

When update-manager finds that updates are ready to install, I click on
"Install updates" button. However, in the window to authenticate for the update
procedure I cannot enter my password.
As the attached scresnshot shows, the password field is greyed out.
The user I'm running the system with is able to sudo root, so running update
manager like this:
sudo update-manager
so this can be used as a workaround.

[Bug 524064] Re: "Maximum number of clients reached" with few windows open

2011-03-18 Thread Imre Sándor
Hi,

This bug is really annoying. I read a bug similar to this one (#263211) that
claims this has been resolved in 8.10. Unfortunatelly this does not seem to be
the case.
I am on Lucid and affected by the bug.
And no, I am not using Chrome so that suggestion does not apply here.

Since 10.04 is an LTS release, this should be targeted to this version
as well.

Thanks.
