[Bug 1186679] Re: Powernap Service won't start x86_64
Hi Andres That was indeed the problem: xxx@xxx:/etc/default$ cat powernap # start powernap at boot [yes|no] START=no So I changed it to Start=yes and powernap is up and running. Thanks very much for your help. I've never had to do this before, is this a change or a new thing you need to do to enble it ? [Bug 1186679] [NEW] Powernap Service won't start x86_64
Public bug reported: Hi Having happily used powernap with various version of 32bit Ubuntu I thought I'd try 64 bit Ubuntu. Unfortunately Powernap seems to be having problems. I've installed/reinstalled etc but the issue is still the same; no Powernap. After a cold boot the Powernap service isn't running. And when I manually try to start it it seems to start: rory@xxx:/etc/powernap$ sudo service powernap start powernap stop/pre-start, process 2700 But when I look the service has gone. [Bug 742862] Re: Bootl fails from USB stick
Thanks for the update Victor. I've just tried the now fully released Fedora 16 and my motherboard boots and runs it quite happily. So we need someone who knows how the usb boot process works and how to find out what's different between the working and non working versions of Linux. [Bug 742862] Re: Bootl fails from USB stick
The same motherboard boot FreeDOS no problems. I've also booted from MSDOS and a WIndows 7 iso on USB with no issues. To get the attention of Gigabyte we should all raise a ticket here: http://uk.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/support-downloads.aspx See technical support at the bottom of the page. Victor, are you saying there's a specific version of Ubuntu that boots reliably on your motherboard ? [Bug 715689] [NEW] RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: powernap Currently Powernap just checks to see if a particular process has been run within a defined period of time but lots of processes still show when they're not actually doing anything useful eg. Samba, media serving tools etc and thus powernap never puts the system to sleep when it could. Ideally powernap would check to see if a process is active within a time period before reseting the counter. Thanks for considering this RFE. ** Affects: powernap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715689 Title: RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 715689] Re: RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence
Hi Andres Thanks for the quick reply and for the information :-) I believe the feature you are requesting is already implemented. This is called the IOMonitor. Is there a bug/blueprint/changelog/something that describes the implementation of this feature ? Cheers Rory... On 02/09/11 14:08, Andres Rodriguez wrote: Hi there! Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu and PowerNap better. I believe the feature you are requesting is already implemented. This is called the IOMonitor. This monitor tracks IO activity of a give process. This monitor is useful for various applications/processes, such as samba, showing up in the process table and not doing anything useful. The latest PowerNap release is included in the Ubuntu archives for Natty, and is also available in PPA for maverick. To obtain the latest release for maverick do as follows: sudo apt-get install python-software-properties sudo add-apt-repository ppa:powernap/paa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install powernap. PowerNap will install a new config file on which this IOMontior, and other monitors are explained. I'm closing this bug report as I believe this feature is already implemented. If you believe this is incorrect or you want to make a request for any other feature, you are welcome to do so, but I'd prefer you do it at the projects web page: launchpad.net/powernap Thank you again! ** Changed in: powernap (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- Regards Rory Mckay Test Engineering Programs WWOPS Technology Group _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ Sun Microsystems Scotland Ltd Linlithgow West Lothian UK EH49 7LR Tel: x17087 (+44-1506-672087) Mobile: (+44-7796-336147) E-mail: rory.mc...@sun.com _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715689 Title: RFE: Processes should be monitored for activity not just presence -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
