[Bug 1527722] Re: QGIS compilation fail only on Wily

only wily/amd64 is affected - wily/i386 works fine, as do precise,
trusty, vivid and Debian jessie, stretch and unstable.

Also +1 from my side, if that helps.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When gives clear criteria for an
SRU application.
Can we point to specific examples of e.g. data loss?

[Bug 1453542] Re: 15.04 with 3.19.0-17 kernel boot failure

2015-06-24 Thread Jürgen
My last running kernel is 3.16.0-38-generic
Starting a newer kernel will lead to a complete lock-up.
I have installed the latest bios twice.
I have split the partition and did a second install. With this partition I can
boot newer kernels.
I haven't figured out the difference between these two installations.

All newer kernels fail shutting down or doing suspend or hybernate

3.16 has only problems with suspend to disk

I filed a bug and was asked to bisect a kernel to find the last working
version but the descriptions to do this provide only basic help.

Sometimes even the 3.16 fails to boot After login the computer Acer
Aspire E112-C43A is 100% stable.

Hello,

I have flashed the latest bios the problem persists

dmidecode says:

Am Samstag, 2. Mai 2015, 11:33:59 schrieben Sie:
Jürgen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As
per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.10). If you update to
 this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
 change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
 sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
 .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

 Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1441039] [NEW] os-prober fails with chainloader on win7 partition

[Bug 1306846]

2015-03-28 Thread Jürgen Weigert
@Chris Wilson et all:

I'd like to raise priority on this issue.
We know the issue to exist for several years now on Linux systems. Recently we
see more and more Windows systems to suffer from the same issue. The attached
patch is simple and fixes the issue.

Is there anything I can do to summon a cairo maintainer here?

Re: [Bug 1388279] Re: suspend hangs when unloading module

2014-12-08 Thread Jürgen
Christopher,

this has has gotten me directly to the solution!

Bios Update is possible with a freedos USB-Disk (My old Toshi wanted Windows)
Had to disable uefi-boot again

Then everything was fine

I have unloaded the module hid_multitouch several times each time after
loading the touchpad came back to life.

Thanks for your help

Jürgen, as per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
BIOS is available (1.08). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If
it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
 sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
 .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

 Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1388279] Re: suspend hangs when unloading module

2014-11-01 Thread Jürgen
I changed the 00sleep_module to unload (only) ic2_hid and now suspend works
and the touchpad comes back after resume.
While testing I got a kernel panic unloading ic2_hid manually once. Maybe its
a problem with the kernel.

Otherwise everything seems to work now

[Bug 1331521] [NEW] column has problems with different file encodings

2014-06-18 Thread Jürgen Kahnert
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.04: bsdmainutils 8.0.1ubuntu1
Ubuntu 12.04: bsdmainutils 8.2.3ubuntu1
Ubuntu 14.04: bsdmainutils 9.0.5ubuntu1

column won't produce any output if the file encoding isn't recognized.
With Ubuntu 8.04 the output of unknown characters were crippled, but
there was still an output. This changed since fgetws is used to read the
characters (instead of fgets).

With Ubuntu 14.04 there is at least an error message instead of an empty
output:

[ubu1404] # column -t -s ';' bar
column: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character

[ubu1204] # column -t -s ';' bar
[ubu1204] # echo $?
0

[ubu1204] # cat bar
1;ä
2;ö
3;ü

[ubu1404] # file foo bar
foo: UTF-8 Unicode text, with CRLF line terminators
bar: ISO-8859 text, with CRLF line terminators

Even with the correct locale setting it won't change anything:

[ubu1404] # LC_CTYPE=de_DE.ISO-8859-1 column -t -s ';' bar
column: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character

With foo everything works as expected:

[ubu1404] # cat foo
1;ä
2;ö
3;ü

[ubu1404] # column -t -s ';' foo
1 ä
2 ö
3 ü

I guess this is related to bug #1065329 - but if I see that correctly,
it's not limited to Ubuntu, it's a general fgetws problem.

** Affects: bsdmainutils (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-04-30 Thread Jürgen
(psusi) has given very helpful information. I assume in most cases
people have added a new harddisk and grub is now on the wrong drive.

In my case I had to switch to bios boot options with F12 and select my old
/dev/sda as boot device.
Back in Linux :-) I followed the steps from (psusi) now everything works fine.

Maybe some documentaion regarding grub2 reinstallation should be
enhanced

introduced code to avoid lines that would be invisible when
rasterized. While this is a valid logic for raster backends, it is a
bad idea for PDF output. There we want to see all fine lines.

My specific use case is generating a lasercutter drawing for an Epilog
Zing laser with inkscape. There the hardware would raster anything
thicker than 0.02mm, and cut 0.01mm or below. 1.12.3 skips lines below
0.036mm, 1.13.1 skips lines below 0.018mm -- which is still not enough
   to safely drive my lasercutter.

Also reported agains cairo upstream with a suggested fix:

[Bug 1307665] [NEW] signal entries in audit.log send aa-logprof in infinite loop

2014-04-14 Thread Jürgen Kreileder
Public bug reported:

Trusty with apparmor 2.8.95~2430-0ubuntu5

Log entries with operation=signal send aa-logprof into an infinite loop.
With LOGPROF_DEBUG=3 I get the following in /var/log/apparmor/logprof.log, then
aa-logprof is in busy loop.

[...]
2014-04-14 21:02:12,315 - ReadLog - read_log: type=AVC
msg=audit(1397430151.932:5592): apparmor=DENIED operation=signal
profile=/usr/lib/postfix/master pid=23348 comm=master requested_mask=send
denied_mask=send signal=term peer=/usr/lib/postfix/smtp

2014-04-14 21:02:12,315 - ReadLog - read_log: seenmark = True

2014-04-14 21:02:12,315 - ReadLog - parse_log_record: type=AVC
msg=audit(1397430151.932:5592): apparmor=DENIED operation=signal
profile=/usr/lib/postfix/master pid=23348 comm=master
requested_mask=send denied_mask=send signal=term
peer=/usr/lib/postfix/smtp

2014-04-14 21:02:12,315 - ReadLog - parse_event: type=AVC

profile=/usr/lib/postfix/master pid=23348 comm=master
requested_mask=send denied_mask=send signal=term
peer=/usr/lib/postfix/smtp

Even if logprof doesn't know how to handle these entries, it shouldn't fail in
this way - just ignore those lines...
(Of course, proper support for those entries would be preferred because it's a
PITA to add them manually to profiles).

[Bug 1249794] Re: nvidia fails to install

2013-11-12 Thread Jürgen
The problem could be solved.

The steps described in various tutorials (remove all existing nvidia-
packages, install headers etc.) didn't help even reinstalling.

I realized that copying my system to a new disk (ssd :-) ) was
uncomplete. After fixing that everything worked again.

I don't now what was missing maybe a an apt-get install build-essential
would have also helped.

There are scattered reports of people with the same problem with various
debian and ubuntu versions that might have the same reason.

[Bug 1176126] Re: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected

2013-09-03 Thread Jürgen Liebmann
This problem is solved!

After reporting bug upstream, the determined hint came from Laurent Pinchart.
I have tested webcam with setting the UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF quirk. With them
webcam works proberly.
Laurent will update the uvcvideo quirks table to set UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF by
default
for this webcam.

My workaround:
I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf with this content:

options uvcvideo quirks=0x100

Now the webcam workes properly.

[Bug 1176126] Re: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected

2013-08-06 Thread Jürgen Liebmann
Now I 've tried to understand what happens by bisect. But when I followed the
direction in wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection) I have some
problems (see also
http://ubuntu.5.x6.nabble.com/Update-https-wiki-ubuntu-com-Kernel-KernelBisection-Inquiry-td4997067.html).
I have the same problems like described in
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kernel-fuer-git-bisect-kompilieren/#post-4465307.

I have done:
git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git
cd ubuntu-raring
git checkout -b mybisect origin/master
That's ok!

But when I say:
git bisect start Ubuntu-3.8.0-16.26 Ubuntu-3.8.0-15.25
I received:
Bisecting: a merge base must be tested
[405acc3402a3df8df967d1848947dc58f0059664] Linux 3.8.4
and the subdirectories debian and debian.master are deleted. Therefore I can't
set an new version in debian.master/changelog and the the build of kernel to
test with
fakeroot debian/rules clean
fakeroot debian/rules binary-headers binary-generic
fails!

I search in google how to build an own kernel and found:
cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config
make oldconfig
fakeroot make deb-pkg

This creates the files
linux-image-3.8.4+_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb
linux-firmware-image_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb
linux-headers-3.8.4+_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb
linux-libc-dev_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb

I can install and test them. The result is good:
git bisect good
Bisecting: 280 revisions left to test after this (roughly 8 steps)
[237e06fef3f2c5a461709904073f5ac587450839] UBUNTU: Temporarily disable module
check on build

All the following 8 steps are as result bad I got the last revision:
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this (roughly 0 steps)
[74a6af256b4816bf95ca59323dc06b8001673a43] USB: EHCI: work around silicon bug
in Intel's EHCI controllers

But I don't know is this result significant? Perhaps the the tags are
non-linear?

So I tried to bisect the mainline kernels. I load the mainline kernels from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/:
v3.8.4-raring - this is ok!
v3.8.5-raring - this implies the bug
Now I done:
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
but the command git bisect v3.8.4 good fails with
fatal: Needed a single revision
Ungültige Referenz-Eingabe: v3.8.4

Now I don't know how continuing!
I would like to help, but I need a little how to that works fine and give the
correct results!

Thanks, but how I find the corresponding commit number to the kernel version?
I think, I need the last commit from v3.8.4 and the last commit from v3.8.5 to
start the bisect.

Hi, using kernel 3.8.0-23-generic, 'normal' ubuntu 13.04, HP6830s and an
older HP laptop of which I don't know by heart the model, same problem.

I modified the script a little; I presume it will work on all laptops
like this since it does for mine:

nano /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh

#!/bin/bash

case $1 in
 hibernate|suspend)
  # Stopping is not required.

 thaw|resume)
  # In background.
  for cooling_device in $(ls
/sys/devices/virtual/thermal/cooling_device?/cur_state -1)
  do
   echo -n 0 $cooling_device
   sleep 2
  done
  ;;
 *) exit $NA
  ;;
esac

chmod +x /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh

[Bug 1176126] Re: webcam Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected

2013-05-04 Thread Jürgen Liebmann
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Since upgrate from quantal to raring I have the a problem with the webcam
Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000. The webcam doesn't work.
  In /var/log/syslog I can see:

  May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.441466] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device
Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 (045e:0721)
  May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.441923] uvcvideo: UVC non compliance -
GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
  May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.442272] uvcvideo: Failed to query (129)
UVC probe control : -32 (exp. 26).
May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.442275] uvcvideo: Failed to initialize
the device (-5).
May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.442350] usbcore: registered new
interface driver uvcvideo
  May 3 07:46:44 master kernel: [ 61.442352] USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)

The kernel is the actual kernel of raring (3.8.0-19-generic, package
  linux - 3.8.0-19.30).

But when I boot raring with kernel 3.5.0-27 (last kernel from quantal)
  the webcam it works fine:

  May 3 07:39:36 master kernel: [ 370.964836] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device
Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 (045e:0721)
  May 3 07:39:36 master kernel: [ 370.965309] uvcvideo: UVC non compliance -
GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
May 3 07:39:36 master kernel: [ 370.966042] input: Microsoft LifeCam
NX-3000 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.2/2-1.2:1.0/input/input15
May 3 07:39:36 master kernel: [ 370.966208] usbcore: registered new
interface driver uvcvideo
  May 3 07:39:36 master kernel: [ 370.966212] USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)

It's probably the same problem as bug #1168430 ?
