[Bug 1453542] Re: 15.04 with 3.19.0-17 kernel boot failure
My last running kernel is 3.16.0-38-generic Starting a newer kernel will lead to a complete lock-up. I have installed the latest bios twice. I have split the partition and did a second install. With this partition I can boot newer kernels. I haven't figured out the difference between these two installations. All newer kernels fail shutting down or doing suspend or hybernate 3.16 has only problems with suspend to disk I filed a bug and was asked to bisect a kernel to find the last working version but the descriptions to do this provide only basic help. Christopher, this has has gotten me directly to the solution! Bios Update is possible with a freedos USB-Disk (My old Toshi wanted Windows) Had to disable uefi-boot again Then everything was fine I have unloaded the module hid_multitouch several times each time after loading the touchpad came back to life. Thanks for your help Am Sonntag, 7. Dezember 2014, 19:12:56 schrieben Sie: Jürgen, as per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your BIOS is available (1.08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.08 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388279 Title: suspend hangs when unloading module To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1388279/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1388279] Re: suspend hangs when unloading module
I changed the 00sleep_module to unload (only) ic2_hid and now suspend works and the touchpad comes back after resume. While testing I got a kernel panic unloading ic2_hid manually once. [Bug 1331521] [NEW] column has problems with different file encodings
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.04: bsdmainutils 8.0.1ubuntu1 Ubuntu 12.04: bsdmainutils 8.2.3ubuntu1 Ubuntu 14.04: bsdmainutils 9.0.5ubuntu1 column won't produce any output if the file encoding isn't recognized. [Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found
(psusi) has given very helpful information. I assume in most cases people have added a new harddisk and grub is now on the wrong drive. In my case I had to switch to bios boot options with F12 and select my old /dev/sda as boot device. Back in Linux :-) I followed the steps from (psusi) now everything works fine. [Bug 1176126] Re: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected
This problem is solved! After reporting bug upstream, the determined hint came from Laurent Pinchart. I have tested webcam with setting the UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF quirk. With them webcam works proberly. Laurent will update the uvcvideo quirks table to set UVC_QUIRK_PROBE_DEF by default for this webcam. My workaround: I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf with this content: options uvcvideo quirks=0x100 Now the webcam workes properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176126 Title: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1176126/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1176126] Re: 045e:0721 Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 not detected
Now I 've tried to understand what happens by bisect. But when I followed the direction in wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection) I have some problems (see also http://ubuntu.5.x6.nabble.com/Update-https-wiki-ubuntu-com-Kernel-KernelBisection-Inquiry-td4997067.html). I have the same problems like described in http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kernel-fuer-git-bisect-kompilieren/#post-4465307. I have done: git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-raring.git cd ubuntu-raring git checkout -b mybisect origin/master That's ok! But when I say: git bisect start Ubuntu-3.8.0-16.26 Ubuntu-3.8.0-15.25 I received: Bisecting: a merge base must be tested [405acc3402a3df8df967d1848947dc58f0059664] Linux 3.8.4 and the subdirectories debian and debian.master are deleted. Therefore I can't set an new version in debian.master/changelog and the the build of kernel to test with fakeroot debian/rules clean fakeroot debian/rules binary-headers binary-generic fails! I search in google how to build an own kernel and found: cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config make oldconfig fakeroot make deb-pkg This creates the files linux-image-3.8.4+_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb linux-firmware-image_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb linux-headers-3.8.4+_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb linux-libc-dev_3.8.4+-1_amd64.deb I can install and test them. The result is good: git bisect good Bisecting: 280 revisions left to test after this (roughly 8 steps) [237e06fef3f2c5a461709904073f5ac587450839] UBUNTU: Temporarily disable module check on build All the following 8 steps are as result bad I got the last revision: Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this (roughly 0 steps) [74a6af256b4816bf95ca59323dc06b8001673a43] USB: EHCI: work around silicon bug in Intel's EHCI controllers But I don't know is this result significant? Perhaps the the tags are non-linear? So I tried to bisect the mainline kernels. I load the mainline kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/: v3.8.4-raring - this is ok! v3.8.5-raring - this implies the bug Now I done: git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git but the command git bisect v3.8.4 good fails with fatal: Needed a single revision Ungültige Referenz-Eingabe: v3.8.4 Now I don't know how continuing!
