[Bug 1442776] [NEW] mythbuntu-desktop package requires upstart on 15.04

2015-04-10 Thread Jack Deslippe
Public bug reported:

The mythbuntu-desktop package still requires upstart and upstart-bin.
Thus it cannot be removed from the system if you have the ythbuntu
package installed, even though bringing up mythtv with upstart doesn't
work. 15.04 now requires systemd. Can you remove this dependency?

[Bug 1408651] Re: Needs systemd unit or sysv init script, fix if-up.d script

2015-03-26 Thread Jack Deslippe
I just updated to 15.04 from 14.10 and in order to get the backend
started at boot I had to manually add a
/etc/systemd/system/mythbackend.service file based on the mythtv doc

I'm confused, based on this bug report,shouldn't this have been fixed??

[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2012-04-22 Thread Jack Deslippe
Hi Daniel,

I have this problem on a MacBook air with latest 12.04. Compiz/X.org are
often at 50% CPU. My desktop with a different NVidia Card doesn't seem
to have this problem. At least not nearly as bad.

I have attached my stacks.txt to the bug in case that is helpful...

Is there any compiz log I can look at to see what it is doing during
these times?

[Bug 628372] Re: Docky freezes when launching application

2010-09-10 Thread Jack Deslippe
I have figured out the origin of this bug (at least for me). The bug
appeared for me yesterday because I had just installed unity (for fun)
which brought in a bunch of zeitgeist packages. When I removed unity
and all the zeitgeist packages, this bug goes away. In particular,
libzeitgeist-gio libzeitgeist-1.0-0 seem to cause the trouble.

I can reproduce the bug 100% of the time and reproduce the fix every
time by reinstalling unity and then removing it (and the zeitgeist
packages).

@Seif - I wasn't able to find the zeitgeist-engine package, but install
zeitgeist-datahub (which brings in zeitgeist-core) seems fine. It does
not break docky like the libzeitgeist package does.

I don't really know if it is working per-se because I don't know what
docky has to do with zeitgeist, but it doesn't break docky at least.

[Bug 403135] Re: Notification area icon wrongly rendered/uses bg_color as a background (multiple apps)

2010-04-09 Thread Jack Deslippe
This doesn't seem to have been a problem with Banshee in Karmic (at
least it was find for me). Can we just go back to using the Karmic
banshee icon instead of the monochrome one in Lucid? Or is the problem
with ambiance theme?

[Bug 373534] Re: Rhythmbox 0.12.0 time unknown, seekbar disabled

The problem is that without -ugly the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is allowing

be added to the new gdmsetup before we really claim Fix released in

[Bug 253785] Re: Apps can't sync with Rockbox

2009-07-28 Thread Jack Deslippe
I have been spending some time patching Banshee for Android to work -
so, I got to know the code a bit. I had an old ipod, I put rockbox on,
as well, and was able to get it to work marvelously with Banshee by
including the file .is_audio_player on the iPod root directory. You
CANNOT leave it empty though as was suggested above. The file should
contain:

audio_folders=Music/,Videos/
video_folders=Videos/
folder_depth=2
output_formats=application/ogg,audio/x-ms-wma,audio/mpeg,audio/mp4,audio/x-wav
playlist_format=audio/x-mpegurl
playlist_path=Playlists/
cover_art_file_name=cover.jpg
cover_art_file_type=jpeg
cover_art_size=320

It works great - it syncs music, podcasts, video, coverart (you need
rockbox 3.0) and playlists (to Music/Playlists directory) perfectly.

I could easily write a patch for Banshee to have it look for .rockbox
and then automatically use these settings. But, I don't think it is a
good idea because a lot of rockbox users dual boot with the original
iPod firmware and still want to sync the iPod db with banshee. If you
want to sync to Rockbox instead, add that file.

[Bug 253785] Re: Apps can't sync with Rockbox

2009-07-28 Thread Jack Deslippe
Ok, I talked to the Banshee Dev. on IRC on if we can incorporate those
settings from the above .is_audio_player file into Banshee. He agreed
it was a bad idea to do it by default if a .rockbox folder is found due
to the dual booting issue. But, I am going to try to create an option
for the user that if .rockbox is found on an ipod it asks the user
whether they want to treat the device an iPod or as Rockbox device with
the above settings. I will try to work on it this weekend.

There is already some effort upstream for this

[Bug 368214] Re: Nautilus Graphical Glitch When Dragging File

2009-05-24 Thread Jack Deslippe
It seems this bug is actually not a duplicate, nor is it fixed upstream.
See, the gnome-devs new comment:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=434193#c6

He says it is a problem with ubuntu-gtk+

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 104395
   Nautilus won't allow scrolling with mousewheel while dragging a file

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid = Confirmed
