[Bug 1359670] [NEW] Unsigned oot modules are wrongly tainted and trace events disabled

2014-08-21 Thread Jack Leigh
Public bug reported:

The issue is explained in detail at http://lwn.net/Articles/588799/

I am trying to load a backported drm module using dkms.
It is not signed so is listed as tainted and trace points are disabled.
As explained in the above article this is because the TAINT_FORCED MODULE flag
is incorrectly set for unsigned modules.

The final patch to fix this and add a TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE that does
not disable trace points can be found at http://lwn.net/Articles/588803/
(fixed in 3.15)

Please consider shipping this patch.

With the above kernel loaded there are no warning messages in dmesg and
/proc/sys/kernel/tainted lists the correct taint flags (12288)

[Bug 1236332] Re: thunderbird covers whole second monitor

2013-11-08 Thread Jack Leigh
Fixed by using 'Restart with Add-ons disabled' - 'Restart' - 'Reset
toolbars and controls' - 'Make changes and restart'

Presumably some weird config.

** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid

** Summary changed:

- thunderbird covers whole second monitor
+ thunderbird covers whole screen including menu bar

** Description changed:

  After upgrade to saucy.
- Have 2 monitor setup - one below the other.
- Starting thunderbird puts it on the main screen.
- It displays covering the unity bar and is not draggable using Alt.
+ Thunderbird displays covering the unity bar and is not draggable using Alt.

Should not cover the whole monitor, should show menu and should be
- possible to drag it to the other monitor.
+ possible to drag it to a second monitor.

[Bug 1142961] [NEW] New ethernet connection is only detected when power is plugged in

2013-03-03 Thread Jack Leigh
Public bug reported:

Seemingly if connecting a wired ethernet connection for the first time
after boot, the connection is not detected until/unless the power lead

2. Connect ethernet

Result: No wired connection detected

Wired connection is detected when power cord is plugged in.

Will investigate further.

[Bug 1055415] [NEW] Cannot login, black screen

2012-09-24 Thread Jack Leigh
Public bug reported:

Sorry I don't know if it is lightdm or nautilus or something else that
handles this.

Leave computer for a while until screen blanks
Come back

Would expect login screen to be presented

Screen is black and no login box appears although cursor does change to text
entry when over where the box would be.
Clicking where box would be and entering password blind just gives a black
screen and default cursor everywhere.

Don't think this is reliably reproduceable.

I get multiple break notifications piling up but staying hidden under Unity,
using the ppa version.
Nevertheless, would be great to get this in Ubuntu (again).

[Bug 991928] [NEW] lightdm can disable mouse

2012-04-30 Thread Jack Leigh
Public bug reported:

Running 12.04 on an Acer Aspire D250.
There is a keyboard shortcut Fn-F7 to disable the touchpad.

If this is accidentally set whilst on lightdm the mouse is unusable on the

This shortcut should still be usable from Unity as all the other

there.

[Bug 975063] [NEW] 'Compress' gives cryptic error message

2012-04-06 Thread Jack Leigh
Public bug reported:

Navigate to /var/log
Attempt to compress dist-upgrade folder using right-click 'Compress'
functionality
Compression appears to work but gives 'An error occurred when adding files to
the archive' error message

This should not appear or should have a 'details' section which actually
tells what the problem is.

Doing it manually gives
tar: dist-upgrade/20120404-1338/apt-term.log: Cannot open: Permission denied
so as I suspected a permissions problem

Still seems to include the file tho
