[Bug 1017000] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 will not wake on keyboard from suspend

2012-07-22 Thread James Burkle
This is not a dupe of bug #999638. In that bug, the computer tries to
turn back on (disks spin up, etc). In this bug, the computer never tries
to come back on. It isn't getting any notification to resume when I
press the keyboard or move the mouse.

2012-06-23 Thread James Burkle
Public bug reported:

I am using a PS2 keyboard hooked up to a desktop computer. When I

[Bug 342133] [NEW] [tg3] network kernel module mysteriously stops working

2009-03-13 Thread James Burkle
Public bug reported:

Hardware: Dell Precision M60
Error:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
 * Reconfiguring network interfaces...
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device
Failed to bring up eth0.
 [ OK ]

---
Ethernet device:

$ dmesg | grep -i ether
[ 11.339695] eth0: Tigon3 [partno(BCM95705A50) rev 3001 PHY(5705)]
(PCI:33MHz:32-bit) 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet xx:xx:xx:xx

kernel module:
$ lsmod | grep -i tg3
tg3 116228 0

For some reason, this problem popped up out of the blue where eth0
suddenly stops working. Everything is fine, all of the sudden websites
stop resolving. Try to restart networking, eth0 not found. rmmod tg3,
modprobe tg3, works again for a bit. Then, again, stops working. Fresh
install of Hardy 8.04.2

Think its my hardware?

[Bug 293302] Re: [intrepid] laptop keyboard stops responding

2008-11-05 Thread James Burkle
This has now started happening in the middle of a session, as I am
working. The keyboard will stop responding, but after pressing Ctrl +
Alt + F2, the screen flickers and the keyboard returns to normal (it
doesn't actauly switch to tty2). Its very strange. Is there any
diagnostic info that I can provide that will be of use?

[Bug 294476] Re: pidgin messager doesn't alert me when messaged

2008-11-05 Thread James Burkle
Is date and time still there? Did this happen after an update?

Can you right-click on the top bar, click 'Add to Panel', scroll down to
volume control, and add it?

Is the pidgen Icon on the panel at all? Or it is there, but is not
showing the smiley face when you get a message? If the Pidgen Icon is
not there, did you try pidgentoolspreferencesshow system tray
icon always ?

When you say update alerts disappeared, are there any updates for your
system? When you add or remove a package, does the system update icon
appear in the system tray?

Thank you for your time answering these questions, they will help us
determine the root of your problem =)

/etc/X11/xorg.conf and post it.

** Description changed:

when i change my screen resolution it is changed but my login window
resolution is not changed, after having changed it, and once the system
is restarted, my login screen continues with the resolution it was
before and once I enter the screen resolution is automatically changed
by the one that i selected earlier, what I mean is that now my desktop
screen and my login screen, have two separate resolutions because it
only applies to my desktop screen and not for the login window too,
  why?, please fix it!!!

[Bug 294482] Re: my login window resolution is still the same

2008-11-05 Thread James Burkle
Yes, I understand exactly what you are talking about.

This is not really a bug. In order to fix your problem, follow the
instructions here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=151192

Basically, you're going to add in a default display resolution into you
xorg.conf file, and your login screen will abide by the default setting
you give it. In your case it would look something like this:

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device

SubSection Display
Modes 1024x768
EndSubSection
EndSection

Where is says 1024x768, insert your desired monitor resolution.
I am Setting the status of this to invalid. Please check to see if your issues
have already been answered before reporting a bug. Thanks for helping to make
Ubuntu better!

We will probably need more information from you. But first, can you try
opening a terminal, navigating to the directory, and typing in:

sudo gedit options.php

[Bug 293302] [NEW] [intrepid] laptop keyboard stops responding

2008-11-03 Thread James Burkle
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop, and I just upgraded to intrepid.
When I leave my laptop unattended for any length of time, my keyboard
stops functioning, and my Gnome drop down menus do not work. I am unable
to switch to terminal via ctrl + alt + f2. When I click Applications,
Places, System, or the logout button, the button shows that it is
depressed, but no menu appears. The only way that I am able to restart
is by pressing the power button and waiting 60 seconds for it to
automatically reboot. The install is pretty clean.

Hardy worked fine. I think this might only happen when I close the
screen on my laptop (it is not set to go into hibernation or standby or
anything like that). What else is needed from me?

[Bug 244885] Re: Network not available in Hardy Heron 8.04

2008-10-23 Thread James Burkle
Greetings

@Michael Vogt

I just applied for the ubuntu mentors program, and saw this bug and
figured I'd give it a shot. Here is my solution:

I noticed this program supports third party plugins. Specifically, it says to
put a script in the folder /usr/share/recovery-mode/options and that the
script will show up in the main menu of the recovery screen.
So I created a script that comes up in the recovery screen called netroot which
basically starts a /sbin/sulogin, but starts dhclient eth0 before it, to assign
your eth0 interface a DHCP address. I tested it a few times and it works, I was
able to reach the internet and, more importantly, make apt-get work.

The script is attached, but what do I do now? How do I get this added to
the package? Is it good enough, or am I off base here?

Thank you for your time.

for the friendly-recovery package
