[Bug 1912960] Re: kcryptd, big file copy, system became unresponsive

2021-05-25 Thread Janusz Dziedzic
Finally I did:

- get new 2TB M2 SSD
- install fresh ubuntu 20.04 (1TB not crypted for system, 1TB crypted)
- no issues with crypted partition

After that don't have this problem.

So, possible issue was:
 - smth wrong when upgrade from 18.04 -> 20.04
 - my old m2 SSD (512GB)
 - or combination2

I think we can close this one.

[Bug 1912960] Re: kcryptd, big file copy, system became unresponsive

2021-02-10 Thread Janusz Dziedzic
Same problems with 5.11rc4 - seems like linux kernel issue when dm-crypt used.
I suspect because of best performance. But in my case, and probably most GUI
users, disk performance isn't most important.
Today it is funny, can't run compilation in case I know will have Teams telco
soon :)

Do we know which linux mailing group handle dm-crypt issues?

2018-12-19 Thread Janusz Lisiecki
I have the same problem and it doesn't work with gcc 7.3.0-27.
I tried to https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=43866 from
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84428 with -v option. I see
"--push-state --no-as-needed -lasan --pop-state" but it doesn't help.

[Bug 1789026] [NEW] trigger-rally crashes on startup, old libphysfs suspected

2018-08-25 Thread Janusz Opiła
Public bug reported:

$ trigger-rally
dbus[2418]: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect,
assertion "path != NULL" failed in file ../../../dbus/dbus-message.c line 1362.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
=

After upgrade from 17:10 to 18:04LTS trigger 6.5 crashes on startup.
Due to discussion on triggerrally newsgroup the reason might be compilation
against
obsolete libphys version. Bionic has higher version.

However, on another machine trigger launches and performs quite well.

Purging and clean install didn't helped.

[Bug 1776600] Re: version 3.3.1 has a security hole CVE-2017-11610

Thanks for the feedback. One more question from my side - why not to
update to the newest supervisor instead of patching older version? I'm
asking because it looks like there is always a lag on this package :) is
there anything I can do to keep this package actual?

[Bug 1747899] [NEW] RE: Ubuntu 17.10 - portrait monitor showing extra arrow

2018-02-07 Thread Janusz Michalik
Public bug reported:

I recently hooked-up a second monitor to an Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 1060.
When I am using my primary monitor, the secondary monitor shows the
cursor as well.

My monitor setup:

Left monitor portrait 1200x1920 (secondary)
Right monitor landscape __ 1920x1200 (primary)
with the Ubuntu desktop.

In particular, when my cursor is in the top-left 1/6th of the primary
landscape monitor, I see the cursor in the bottom-left 1/6th of my
secondary portrait monitor. But, if I am in that same bottom-left 1/6th
of the secondary portrait monitor, I do not see it in the primary
landscape monitor.

Additional information:
- I have already tried using the proprietary and Nouveau open-source driver,
and this unfortunately did not solve the issue,
- when the portrait secondary monitor is on the right this problem does not
occur,

Work around:
- switching from Wayland back to XOrg worked, so I guess its something to do
with Wayland specifically.

Best,
J.

[Bug 1548088] [NEW] ch374 usb driver not included in kernel 4.2-0-27-generic

2016-02-21 Thread Janusz Wawrzkiewicz
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 15.10 kernel (4.2-0-27-generic) does not contain a driver for the
"WinChipHead 13.56MHz RFID Card Reader and Writer" (ID 4348: 5537, Product

The chip is properly recognized, but the lack of communication with him.
It's too bad, because thechip "WinChipHead 13.56MHz RFID Card Reader and

[Bug 1336005] Re: akonadi-server too dependent on MySQL and prevent percona instalation

2014-10-01 Thread Janusz Mordarski
Confirmed, this bug prevents users from replacing mysql with percona
packages. A quick fix is to extract akonadi -backend-mysql page, modify
control file (change Depends), repack .deb file and reinstall (the
solution below is more or less working - I'm tweaking the Depends
section now)

apt-get install --reinstall --download-only akonadi-backend-mysql
mv /var/cache/apt/archives/akonadi-backend-mysql_1.12.1-0ubuntu1.1_all.deb .
ar x akonadi-backend-mysql_1.12.1-0ubuntu1.1_all.deb
tar xvzf control.tar.gz

[Bug 848529] Re: Choose between binary prefixes and SI unit prefixes, and use them consistently

2013-01-18 Thread janusz
Shortly- the biggest bug is 'Ubuntu Units Policy' itself. In past 3
years it wasn't apply in full properly in any distro. Also,up to
today, still plenty of software do not apply this policy. And there is no
sign for change. And most important- the standard for units use by OS's
is still held by M$ (who got over 90% personal computers market)-not by
any other body.If Ubuntu wants to keep standards- OK, but do it once and
proper-without confusing users(mostly reverting from M$).

[Bug 16598] Re: /sbin/installkernel doesn't work

2012-08-22 Thread Janusz Dziedzic
still exist under ubuntu 12.04. - is that expected?

- first of all
/sbin/installkernel: 30: [: /boot unexpected operator

Seems sh version we have on ubuntu (/bin/sh - dash
) don't allow == during string comparation.

- seems we also don't need call new-kernel-pkg (if someone need package
should/could use make-kpkg).
- lack of update-initramfs and update-grub in installkernel script

Seems Ubuntu still using orginal (RedHat) version of /sbin/installkernel script
(??).
As I understand this should be Ubuntu specyfic code and someone from Ubuntu
team should rewrite/change this.

[Bug 947495] [NEW] ia32-libs does not depend on libxtst6:i386

2012-03-05 Thread Janusz Dziemidowicz
Public bug reported:

ia32-libs package found in Oneiric and earlier Ubuntu versions contains
libxtst6. In Precise, ia32-libs depends on multi-arch versions of
libraries, but libxtst6 is not among them. As far as I undestand,
ia32-libs in Precise is supposed to be a backward compatible
transitional package, so it should depend on the same set of libraries
as earlier ia32-libs versions.

I stumbled upon this issue when trying to build updated Java packages
(https://github.com/rraptorr/sun-java6) on Precise. The package build-
depends on ia32-libs and builds fine on older Ubuntu releases, but fails
on Precise, due to lack of libxtst6.

[Bug 291263] Re: kvpnc: needs ability to add --script-security 2 to openvpn args

2012-02-15 Thread Janusz Mordarski
The problem shows up once again on Ubuntu 11.10 and OpenVPN 2.2.0.

There is no problem with Kvpnc and Ubuntu 10.x and 11.04, using OpenVPN
2.1.x.

So --script-security 2 problem is back again.

[Bug 482419] Re: 802.3ad interface bonding fails if started too early

2012-02-01 Thread Janusz Mordarski
Had the same problem on 11.10 x86_64, but this can be easily solved by
changing network configuration a bit.

One has to use:

iface ethX ...
   bond-master bondX

instead of

iface bondX ...
   slaves ethX

Either manuals/howtos should be updated or the 'slaves' functionality should be
restored
I will update https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBonding ASAP

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-networkmanagement

There is finally an option to create VPN L2TP (StrongSwan) connection in KDE
network management widget, but I see one major flaw of it now. There is only an
option to use certificate to connect. There should be also an option to use
shared secret key instead. Maybe this is your plan for near future but I just
want to let you all know about this fact.
It would be really great to use shared keys also in this widget and I'm very

[Bug 525154] Re: mountall for /var races with rpc.statd

2011-04-09 Thread Janusz Mordarski
well restarting portmap and nfs helped, and i don't want now to revert
back to faulty config.

i was getting this mesage when booting my diskless workstations:

mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
Either use '-o nolocks' to keep locks local, or start statd.

/root was mounted OK of course, because if not, it wouldn't boot at all
- problem was with /home and other directories mounted by mountall init scripts
- after complete boot, in gdm, there was no /home , i had to once again invoke
mount -a (when gdm was running) - i solved it by using rc.local dirty
solution ;)

portmap and nfs services were starting, but this error message was
showing up anyway

thanks to this thread i found out, that maybe starting statd was racing
with mounting /var by nfs in read write mode or something like this, so
i thought that restarting portmap and nfs services in single user mode,
before any extra NFS shares are mounted (/home) will solve the problem,
and it works fine now. no error messages during boot process. i don't
really know if it qualifies for new bug or not.

[Bug 525154] Re: mountall for /var races with rpc.statd

2011-03-29 Thread Janusz Mordarski
i'm using Ubuntu 10.04 as nfsroot on diskless workstation. For now, only
working patch for this issue is putting

restart portmap
restart nfs

in some script started early in /etc/rcS.d (so 'single user' mode stage
of init)

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found

2010-12-17 Thread janusz
Big discussion, big solutions, but problem is NOT permanently SOLVED yet. Only
downgrading helps.SHAME.
I'm using Ubuntu ONLY since 8.04 LTS,but because off floppy ,I was close to
give up and say sorry to win.Thats cannot be.
Is there any way for permanent fix? PLEASE do something if you can.I can't.I'm
just a simple user.

One more brick:
10.04 LTS,amd64,kernel 2.6.32-26 with downgraded udisks.
floppy formatted ext2/4 filesystem:

Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/fd0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so

dmesg | tail
end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
EXT4-fs (fd0): mounted filesystem without journal

that was just for 'try',but With msdos filesystem is ok.

[Bug 652422] Re: [Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem

2010-11-23 Thread janusz
Hi Daniel.
This is about 10.10 when I use 'single_cmd=1'
I'm using my own build PC with front audio panel. Both microphones
(external-front audio panel:internal-from motherboard) works and capture audio
audibly.Hmmm, headphones (front audio panel) works OK,but I can't test mute
speakers when connected. They don't In my case, because my motherboard required
'jack_sense' pin active(connected to HD front panel audio). But my front panel
audio coming from AC'97 times, and not support this future.Than, sorry, but I
CANNOT give answer using my equipment, yes or no.But anyway,I've got all set of
mixers,according to my sound hardware.
Any more information?
I've start testing Nutty shortly this week, than if you are interesting in any
output,let me know.
All the best for you.

[Bug 652422] Re: [Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem

2010-11-21 Thread janusz
Hi David!
Using 'position_fix=1' do nothing for me.I'm using ONLY 'single_cmd=1'
command.Any other command or combination not give more positive effect, than not
command at all. But 'single_cmd=1' NOT work with alsa 1.0.18rc3 (Ubuntu 9.04)
and alsa 1.0.23 (Ubuntu 10.10).or after upgrade alsa to v.1.0.23 under Ubuntu
9.04.
Anyway,I'm not try combination of 'position_fix=1' and 'single_cmd=1'
together, but if it is important ,I can try this for you.
And, I want to write 'firmware path' for final and permanent solution.I think
I've got all necessary information to do that. But I've NO IDEA where to find
and enable 'CONFIG_SND_HDA_PATCH_LOADER=y' to be able to do that?Any help with
that pls.

[Bug 652422] Re: [Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem

2010-11-21 Thread janusz
Sorry Daniel,I've done mistake in my post#14.
But 'single_cmd=1' NOT work with alsa 1.0.18rc3 (Ubuntu 9.04) and alsa 1.0.23
(Ubuntu 10.10).or after upgrade alsa to v.1.0.23 under Ubuntu 9.04. -this part
correctly:But 'single_cmd=1' NOT work with alsa 1.0.18rc3 (Ubuntu 9.04) or
after upgrade alsa to v.1.0.23 under Ubuntu 9.04 or 10.04.
Under 10.10 hda_codec report: Cannot set up configuration from BIOS.Using base
mode. After that sound come on 5/10.
BUT 'single_cmd=1' WORKS and I NEED IT! see alsa-info.I'm not testing Nutty yet.
Sorry for mess I made.

2010-11-20 Thread janusz
SOLVED
single_cmd=1
It's a beautiful that I can finally write this word.Take a long time and
plenty of restarts,but with success.
But Remember this is a last resort, and should be avoided as much as
possible...!! taken from ALSA-Driver Configuration Guide (857) - explain why
it take so long.Anyway, that's work for me 100/100,and even 'spurious response'
from codec disappear.
@Daniel
I've one more time try daily codec build ,but with effect that you can find in
my post #5.

Thank's a lot everyone for help. What's mean Linux user's community
support! Greatest thing ever!

2010-10-19 Thread janusz
Daniel, thank you for advise. But,I've already try this, however without
'position_fix=3.That works for me,and I've got driver working 99/100!But
here start next problem for me-saa7134_alsa driver stop loading, and
leave my tv card unusefull. It's important to me to get this card
work, because of devices connected. And ,at this moment I've switch off
from this, because I'm not found solution to get saa7134_alsa loading and
working. But I promise I check this over again with 'position_fix=3' and
give outpunt what's happend.

[Bug 652422] Re: [Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem

2010-10-19 Thread janusz
PS to my post #5.I need help, how to apply 'bigger bdl_pos_adj.Every time when
hda-intel is properly loaded,I've this (from dmesg):hda-intel: IRQ timing
workaround is activated for card #2. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj..That's my
HDA-Intel - HDA VIA VT82xx card.The same apply to my second card:HDA-Intel -
HDA ATI HDMI.When I added in alsa-base.conf line(only one for hda-intel):
options hda-intel bdl_pos_adjvalue,outpunt from dmesg not change.I've try
values from -1 step 8 up to 96.That's like driver not taking this,or I'm doing
something wrong with this? And is information setting latency timer to 64
(latency timer) mean the same bdl_pos_adj or that are different things?
Thanks for patience

[Bug 652422] [NEW] [Realtek ALC662 rev1] Playback problem

2010-09-30 Thread janusz
Public bug reported:

I've got about 50% chance on getting sound when starting system (or
nothing-no sound at all). But every time (even when sound works),there is
'spurious response' from hda-intel codec or 'invalid connect list'(when
no sound at all).I've try every solution with options, editing alsa-
base.conf, but nothing increase my chance to getting sound works on
start.Upgrading alsa to 1.0.23 change nothing-or even worse-I lost one
card, with saa7134-alsa.The last fully working sound was under Ubuntu
9.04 with alsa 1.0.18rc3.

[Bug 603536] Re: [Lucid] saa7134_alsa kernel module for TV cards broken?

2010-09-28 Thread janusz
solution (that's work for me):
you need Live CD with 10.04.1
start computer with this Live CD,on first screen pres esc to get options, then
F6 to get other option. Here check nomodeset/use arrows, then enter to
mark, then esc to exit and enter to start boot/ and run Live CD.After boot check
at sound preferences if your card with saa7124 chip is present (better is to
use alsamixer in terminal). If all is OK you need to do fresh install with
nomodeset options enabled. Also, after install, I suppose to enable proposed
repositories to get latest kernel 2.6.32-25,which works more stable for me (I'm
getting also big problem with hda-intel codec).
Good luck!

[Bug 636437] [NEW] problem displaying content of /usr/bin

2010-09-12 Thread Janusz Mrozek
Public bug reported:

Linux versions:
 2.6.32-24-generic (64-bit)
 2.6.32-25-generic (64-bit)

all partitions except for /boot are xfs

after installing wine1.2

Problem 1

an attempt to display content of /usr/bin results in error message:

 tajfun2 kernel: [ 2249.289759] nautilus[1953]: segfault at 7fff15821ff8
ip 7f004a46c56e sp 7fff15822000 error 6 in
libglib-2.0.so.0.2400.1[7f004a41+db000]

I went through all other major directories in file system - /usr/bin
appears to be the only troubled directory.

Problem 2

changing the content of /home/user/Desktop dos not result in displaying
new file icon on the desktop. The icon appears when accessing
/home/user/Desktop from the file manager - refreshing the content of
this directory from the file manager menu results in the file icon
appearing also on the desktop screen

the same behaviour found on three different machines with:

Intel i7 860
Intel P8700 Core2 Duo
AMD Athlon 3800+

uninstalling wine does not change the above behaviour.

[Bug 453653] Re: [karmic] libvirt fails to list node devices

2010-03-09 Thread Janusz
yes, thanks, that's it, i disabled libvirt profile for apparmor and then
... i get another error ;)

Failed to assign irq for 08:08.0: Operation not permitted
Perhaps you are assigning a device that shares an IRQ with another device?
Failed to initialize assigned device host=08:08.0

but i guess it is a completely different story ;)

[Bug 373923] Re: Problem burning audio cd's with brasero

2009-11-14 Thread janusz
Had the same problem-solved after deactivated normalizer plugin. But my
question is: what for this plugin is still included when giving
problems? You have to waste your own and others time to come here and
find solution. And the opinion about Brasero going worse!

[Bug 309776] Re: jaunty xorg 100% cpu usage

2009-04-18 Thread Janusz (ledruide)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 307306 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/307306

Find a solution in deleting my home directory :

cd /home
sudo mv USER USER.bak
sudo mkdir USER
sudo chown USER:USER USER

It works now.

I think the problem is near the gnome parameters in .gconf, .gconfd or
.gnome2, etc.

[Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex

2008-11-07 Thread janusz
problem with any nvidia drivers starting from 'displayconfig-gtk' package, which
is not included in 8.10 distribution!/was in 8.04/.What I've done: in time
upgrading from 8.04,after completing instalation, instaler ask if you what to
keep some no more need packages.I've foud 'displayconfig-gtk' and check for
keep it.After reboot I run: programs-other-screensgraphics find my monitor and
set correct resolution,on graphic card I've already got my card and nv
driver/only available at this moment/.Then I've pick up awailable updates. Now
run drivers applet-I've see two awailable for my card drivers/one
'recommended'/,choise install 'recommended'-reboot system.Now I've got NVIDIA X
Server settings fully working!/at programs-other-screensgraphics new nvidia
driver appear/
my card Nvidia FX5700VE,driver nvidia-glx-173
Driver installation without keeppinng 'displayconfig-gtk' - I've got NVIDIA X
Server settings intalled, but max resolution WAS 640x320!!
This way I've check on two different computers ant cards/second one TNT2 with
32MB memory/
If you not have 'displayconfig-gtk' than mayby that is any way to install it
from deb repozytorys,but I'm not try this way.Exclusion 'displayconfig-gtk'
from 8.10 doing that in Live session no possibility to change screen resolution
suitable for monitor and friendle work.

Odp: [Bug 145732] Re: package libgphoto2-2 2.4 .0-2ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: podproces post- installation script zwrócił kod błędu 139

2007-10-09 Thread janusz
Thanx for fast response,

To deal with this error I just manually removed all information about
libgphoto2-2 from /var/lib/dpkg/info
Next again
apt-get check
apt-get update
apt-get install libgphoto2-2

everythin works fine.
What was it??

Pedro, I heavily disagree. This *is* a bug, and you should not
prematurely close bug reports without inspecting at least the log.
Installing libgphoto2-2 failed with a segfault, which should not happen.

Janus, can you please give the output of

   sudo sh -ex /var/lib/dpkg/info/libgphoto2-2.postinst configure
 2.4.0-2ubuntu1

 ? Thank you!
