[Bug 664533] [NEW] Installer stuck on keyboard layout selection
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity On keyboard layout selection dialog when first treeview was focused I pressed letters "cz" in order to select "Czechia". In the right treeview "Cambodia" has shown up. This is totaly wrong, should be something like Czechia QWERTZ, QWERTY... Selecting another language from left treeview (both using keyboard and mouse) does nothing, "Cambodia" remains there as only option. I pressed "Back" button then to get back to time zone selection and try it again, but this only disabled "Back" button and changed cursor to busy state. I then waited until installation has finished hoping for it to show then, but nothing happens. "Ready when you are..." is shown as installation progress state, buttons are still disabled, cannot go back, cannot advance further. Happened to me twice - on laptop and in virtual machine running on desktop PC. I found out that when I wait like 1 minute it starts responding again. It seems that the sorting function is very very very slow. The same apply for the rest 4) Plenty of wasted space, everything big, too much padding. Comparison is given with MS calc. 5) Plenty of wasted space - just look at the toolbar. Unusable application - it can't even create new folder on the disc. It doesn't correctly create ISO Level 3 discs. Comparison is given with InfraRecorder which uses the same tools as brasero for burning. 6) "Steps" in gradients, again. I already reported this for previous versions. This is just ugly. If you can't create gradients without these steps, or you just need the space on the disc, why don't you use background without them? E.g. use a photo of some nature - there are not so visible JPEG artefacts. Combobox is not correctly rendered according to theme. 7) Why USC says flash is not available for amd64? It is! I know it is beta or maybe alpha version, but it works, is stable (it never crashed my browser and I'm using it over a year every day). Not being in official reposity doesn't mean it doesn't exist! [Bug 531654] Re: Make shutdown and user menu separate applets
Well, this is good solution for me. But what if there were 2 (or more) users of one computer and first one would like to have it hidden but second one would like to have it shown. C'mon, would it really be that hard to make it configurable? To program one submenu with one or two checkboxes is question of at most 5 minutes and it would really help. Or would you like users to yell "Hey, ubuntu is piece of * as you can't remove IM status indicator without removing shoutdown menu", "you can't remove envelope stuff without removing volume control". Not all ubuntu's users know this cannot be hidden as they just watch the screenshot someone makes. That could be why they don't report this as well, but when the final version is released, I believe this will be number one people will hate about Ubuntu. Not everyone want to be "part" of social networks. But gess what, Sebastian, they won't fix it. They do not want to. As they didn't want to fix that wallperer included in Ubuntu 8.10 with visible steps in gradients as I reported half year ago, because it would add 1MB to ISO image (which could be saved by not including mono and by including better alternatives not dependent on mono). New wallpaper contains them again and wallpaper is among first things users notice and it's part of "first impression". And when you see the wallpaper, you just say - hey, they don't care what people think. And they removed gimp (a lot of saved space), but not because of wallpaper, but to include social piece of *. Why don't they just make better wallpaper. What is problem with some kind of "nature" in the wallpaper. There are not that visible jpeg artefacts. On "one color" wallpaper, there are. They just release it, because they get money from sponsors, not from most of their users. They are not releasing Ubuntu for people, they are releasing it for themselves. That is why they won't fix this bug as well. --- I'm impulsive. I know it. [Bug 436625] Re: [karmic] No 32x32 places icons in Humanity icon theme
C'mon. This bug report is for 32px places icons, not only generic folder. Icons are used e.g. in nautilus when default icon size is set to 66% or it is manualy set for specific folder. When 48px icons look blurry, because they are scaled down. If I took 10 minutes of my life to take already existing generic folder icon and added already existing emblems on it, would you include it in the theme, so I wouldn't do it in vain? I don't really see a reason why not to make them. Do you really thing that everyone is blind and want big 48x48 icons? Even in Microsoft they understand users' needs and add 32x32 icons to their os. Why? Because they want to make their users feel good when using the system ... looking on blurry icons just makes me feel sick. But hey, I know why you don't want add them - space on the CD is limited and having stupid dictionary on the CD is more important than having non-blurry icons in file manager. You know what? I'm sick of reporting bugs when developers obviously doesn't want to solve them - why they even bother to have bugzilla. Since the bug is not solved and you do not want to get it fixed, I'm marking it as WONTFIX. ** Changed in: humanity-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => New ** Changed in: humanity-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: humanity-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => mac_v (drkvi-a) -- [karmic] No 32x32 places icons in Humanity icon theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436625 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I would say that JPEG compression has partly an impact on the image quality as well. Maybe if there were PNG file instead of JPG, it would be (at least a bit) better... [Bug 437591] Re: [karmic] no battery status icons in 16x16 size
Who/What is OP? Anyway, application itself cannot set its icon size (it is actually X window, not icon), systray manager decides what size will be allocated for that icon. Application should be able to render its icon properly for commonly used sizes (including 16x16, 22x22, 24x24 and maybe even bigger). I would understand that blurriness if I set it to lets say 8x8 or 19x19, but 16x16 ... that size is "standard". Moreover, the icon can be used somewhere else too, not only in systray. [Bug 441191] [NEW] [karmic] annoying software brightness changes
Public bug reported: My laptop (Dell Studio 1535) is able to control display brightness by itself - it remembers brightness settings for states running on battery/AC power. When I disconnect AC power, it dims display automaticaly to state where I left it on battery, if I connect it again, it adjust the brightness where I left it on AC power. Problem is that ubuntu messes it up - it tends to adjust the brightness by itself then and it always switches brightness in a wrong way, not to the level I left it. Brightness is adjusted even on boot - during xsplash, before login is shown, it sets brightness to maximum, when I dim it e.g. to the minimum and then log in, it is again adjusted to the maximum. There is a way to turn software dimming off in gnome-power-manager, but it has no effect during the boot and after loging in, it is only respected when I connect/disconnect AC when already logged in. As software dimming is absolutely useless when laptop itself can control it, there really should be some kind of laptops "whitelist" for which it would be turned off by default and/or there should be an option to turn it off completly even during the boot. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ubuntu-boot-experience ** Tags added: ubuntu-boot-experience -- [karmic] annoying software brightness changes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 437591] Re: [karmic] no battery status icons in 16x16 size
16px are needed. 1) Not only gnome panel exists. Some panels allow to set systray icon sizes (such as bmpanel). 2) I've set gtk-icon-sizes to "gtk-menu=16,16:panel-menu=16,16:gtk- large-toolbar=16,16:gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-dnd=32,32:gtk- dialog=32,32:gtk-button=16,16" because I don't like default big icons as in gnome. This settings somehow makes that battery icon 16x16. Having default big icons makes my laptop unusable - having big icons = less space to work in. Most todays laptops have screens with resolution <= 1440x900, only few of them have over 2000px where big icons are good choice, having big icons is just waste of space. I would survive having 24x24 icons in systray, if only that battery icon weren't influenced by gtk-icon-sizes (I didn't set there anything which should apply to systray icons!). Also a lot of applications' icons in 32x32 directory of humanity icon theme look blurry, like they were just scaled down version of 48x48 icons - again - makes you feel sick. Look at windows - they have almost every single icon in every single commonly used size - from 16x16 to 256x256 - and almost all of them look nice, sharp and professional - only very few of them are blurry, because they are not just scaled-down versions, but they are made separately. This should really be on your TODO list for karmic. ** Affects: humanity-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [karmic] No 32x32 places icons in Humanity icon theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436625 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 340212] Re: [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty
This is patch for 2.6.31-rc8 composed of all those patches mentioned in upstream bug. I see no reason not tu pull it to Karmic even for 2.6.30 kernel. But this is perhaps normal. When there is a patch fixing some problem, one must wait 1year for it to be included in "his" distribution. As I switched to Fedora, I will ask there, maybe they will be willing to include it in F12. Thanks anyway. ** Attachment added: "fix.patch" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31051089/fix.patch -- [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 340212] Re: [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty
It does now, tried with kernel-2.6.31rc8 and it works with KMS. See the upstream bugreport. It would be great if those kernel patches were included in Ubuntu 9.10. -- [i965] Bad resolution over HDMI in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Well, that didn't go too well. Got system freeze when the internal display was disabled, nothing was shown on TV and couldn't access logs.
