[Bug 1814400] [NEW] Thinkpad X250 blanks and locks up when removed from the docking station

2019-02-02 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

My X250 has worked with the docking station for just over three years
but the latest kernel update (4.15.0-45-generic) seems to have broken
the ability to undock.

To reproduce:

1. Turn the laptop on and log in.
2. Dock the laptop.
3. Undock the laptop.

This leaves the computer in an unresponsive state (screen is black,
keyboard input of any kind doesn't do anything) and I have to force a
shutdown.

If the laptop screen dims while docked, the computer also has be force
restarted. If you dock the laptop before booting the computer, it
doesn't boot and is in the same locked state.

[Bug 1746382] [NEW] After disabling the touchscreen, touching the screen logs the user out of the session.

2018-01-30 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad x250. I've used 'xinput disable 9' to disable
the touchscreen prior to Ubuntu 17.10. Now that I have upgraded to
17.10, if I disable the touchscreen with the prior command and then
touch the screen with my finger, my user session is logged out and all
open windows are lost. My finger touching the screen shouldn't cause
anything to happen.

[Bug 1724955] Re: unable to drag monitors in Display Arrangement

2018-01-30 Thread Jason Moore
I have three screens: builtin laptop screen and two external monitors.
If I turn off the builtin laptop screen, I am not able to rearrange the
remaining two screens with the mouse. But if I have all 3 screens
enabled I can arrange them as desired and then turn off the builtin
screen after. This confirms dreamwalker's solution.

[Bug 1736583] [NEW] Evince annotations lost on save

2017-12-05 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

I used Evince to annotate a ~70 page PDF. Over a few hours I added a
handful of annotations to each page. After every 5th page or so I would
"Save a Copy" in a new file name (same filename on every save). When I
finished editing the document I saved and noticed that the modified time
was not updating on the file. When opening the copy, no annotations were
present. I tried saving as different file names and the same thing
occurred. Then, stupidly, I opened the original file and it closed the
file I had open with the hundreds of annotations and now no files have
the annotations. My computer is currently at this state. I would really
like to be able to recover the annotations if they happen to be in a
cache file somewhere. Secondly, this seems to be a bug.

I also can confirm that the latest kernel update (4.8.0-28-generic) has

[Bug 1634325] Re: Lenovo X250 failes to suspend after being docked

2016-11-30 Thread Jason Moore
As I mentioned above, disconnecting from the docking station was
problematic with 16.04 and once I upgraded to 16.10 the docking and
subsequent suspend worked. A new kernel update came through today:

Linux garuda 4.8.0-28-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 11 14:03:52 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and now removing from docking fails. If I boot the computer, login, and
then dock everything works. When I remove the computer from the docking
station the laptop screen stays black and there is no way to interact
with the computer so I have to hard shutdown.

I'm also facing issues with this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1642356 (maybe
related). This also has shifted from working, to non-working, to working
from the kernel changes.

Today I directly connected my computer through HDMI (with mini-
displayport adpater) to the projector and it works fine. It may be
important to note that my university has a console which is in-between
the projector and the computer that somehow controls what the device the
VGA is connected to. I still do not know if my computer would recognize
the projector through a direct VGA connection. I'll try to confirm that
soon.

[Bug 1642356] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 no longer connects to Panasonic projector through vga

2016-11-16 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X250 and I was running 16.04 and regularly
using a Panasonic PT-FIV430 FW430 WXGA projector with no issues. Once I
upgraded to 16.10 the operating system no longer detects the projector
through VGA (or if I use a mini-display adapter to connect to the mini-
display port). The projector is not detected at all. I have confirmed
that the VGA port works fine with a external monitor and it also does
not work with a different Panasonic projector model (I didn't take that
model number down).

In close to ten years of Ubuntu use this is the first time I've had
trouble connecting to something through the VGA.

Is there anyway to force this connection? I have to use this projector
in my classroom and I'm currently in a pickle.

[Bug 1634325] [NEW] Lenovo X250 failes to suspend after being docked

2016-10-17 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X250 and the ThinkPad Ultra Dock docking
station which is connected to two Lenovo monitors via DisplayPort.
Docking works fine but if I remove the computer from the dock and try to
suspend, the computer locks up (screen freezes no keyboard commands
work) and I have to hard reboot. The computer works fine after removing
from the dock except for this suspend issue.

[Bug 1103193] Re: ubuntu one does not notice when hamster.db changes

2014-02-05 Thread Jason Moore
Just to chime in. I've never been able to get hamster synced with
dropbox or ubuntu one. I think it must be due to the reason Rüdiger
Kupper mentions. The computers are always out of sync and I've even had
data loss from switching back and forth. At the moment, I'm only
recording hamster tasks on one machine.

[Bug 1071918] [NEW] python-tables depends on missing dependency: libhdf5.so.6 in quantal

2012-10-26 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

python-tables depends on libhdf5 and makes a link to libhdf5.so.6, but
when importing a freshly installed version of PyTables in 12.10 you get
this error:

 import tables
  File /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/tables/__init__.py, line 30, in
module
from tables.utilsExtension import getPyTablesVersion, getHDF5Version
ImportError: libhdf5.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

The version of python-tables in Quantal now has a dependency on
libhdf5-7. libhdf5-7 only creates a file libhdf5.so.7, see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/amd64/libhdf5-7/filelist

It seems that the binary file included in python-tables called
utilsExtensions.so is looking for libhdf5.so.6 but it isn't there.

I used this symlink work around to get the package to work:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libhdf5.so.7.0.2 /usr/lib/libhdf5.so.6

which I copied from this similar octave bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/octave/+bug/1005243

[Bug 1071918] Re: python-tables depends on missing dependency: libhdf5.so.6 in quantal

2012-10-26 Thread Jason Moore
I just tried to reproduce the bug in a clean install of 12.10 on a
different machine and was not able to.

I installed with:

$ apt-get install python-tables

and then tables imported fine. So I must have some issue associated with
my machine which has a long history of installing/uninstalling pytables.
Maybe I just have something corrupted.

Re: [Bug 781302] Re: update-manager can't initialize package information

2011-05-12 Thread Jason Moore
I deleted this file:

/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical
.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_i18n_Translation-en

because it had gotten corrupt on my machine.

Then I ran apt-get update again and things went fine. But I don't know if
that file was important or what it contained...so delete with caution.
