[Bug 1246143] Re: [HP Pavilion g7-1260us Notebook PC] hp-wmi module does not toggle wireless

2013-11-09 Thread Jason Rogers
I have a HP Pavilion DV7 and I have the same issue with 13.10, however this is
not a problem under 12.10.
I don't know if 13.04 is affected.

[Bug 1064962] Re: [SRU] Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-11-22 Thread Jason Rogers
Just chiming in with a bit of additional data: for me, everything is
working great after the update. I am unable to duplicate either of the
remaining issues that others have mentioned in recent comments; my menus
don't become useless (they always seem to work), and I don't have to
wait 5 seconds to get the appropriate menus, either. I have no idea why
the experience is so good in my case. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
I have tried to reproduce the bugs in numerous ways, but can't seem to
do so. (I'm happy to try things and/or provide more info., though.)

[Bug 1074377] [NEW] debian-installer fails to escape or quote special characters in /etc/network/interfaces WPA key

2012-11-02 Thread Jason Rogers
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 64-bit (Precise Pangolin) using the minimal
ISO (mini.iso). During installation, debian-installer asked for my
wireless networking information and successfully used it to connect
wirelessly to the network. It also wrote my wireless networking
information to /etc/network/interfaces. However, the WPA key that I
entered contained at least one special character, and debian-installer
did not escape or quote the special character(s) in
/etc/network/interfaces. The result was that, on reboot, the system hung
for a very long time during the boot process as it tried
(unsuccessfully) to re-connect to the wireless network. I fixed the
problem by simply quoting the WPA key listed in /etc/network/interfaces.
This should happen automatically if the key contains special characters.

Example:

Originally, the relevant part of /etc/network/interfaces reads something
like this:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid SSIDHere
wpa-psk KeyWith$pecialCharacters

It ought to have read something like this:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid SSIDHere
wpa-psk KeyWith$pecialCharacters

It might also be that the SSID should be quoted/escaped, too, but I'm
not sure about that.

[Bug 1064962] Re: Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-10-26 Thread Jason Rogers
Just a minor quibble/clarification: @Bjorn, in #53, you say that the
i386 ppa build failed; in #55, you say that the amd64 build ran out of
space. It looks like the i386 build completed successfully, so I'm
assuming the i386 in #53 was a typo, and should have been amd64?

[Bug 1064962] Re: Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-10-23 Thread Jason Rogers
On a couple of occasions where I have had a document open in Writer for
a while and have been switching between applications, I have returned to
Writer to find that the menu is no longer showing up. I cannot restore
it by minimizing and restoring, by switching between applications, by
opening new documents, or any other such thing that I've tried so far.
I'm assuming this is related to the other issues we're having with the
menu, but I haven't seen this particular aspect of the problem reported
by anyone else.

[Bug 1059177] [NEW] update-manager-core does not list dependency on apport package

2012-09-30 Thread Jason Rogers
Public bug reported:

This problem occurred while I was using a minimal installation of Ubuntu
12.04 LTS (64-bit), installed from the Minimal ISO and updated as of
about 30 minutes before this report was filed. I was using the latest
update-manager-core package that is available in 12.04, which I believe
is version 1:0.156.14.5 (I no longer have it on my system, as I managed
to upgrade before reporting this bug).

What happened: After installing the above version of update-manager-
core, setting the Prompt variable to normal in /etc/update-manager
/release-upgrades, and attempting to upgrade to 12.10 (using sudo do-
release-upgrade -d), the upgrade process unexpectedly crashed with a
Python ImportError. The traceback said that it could not locate the
module apport.hookutils. I would have expected that apport would have
been installed as a dependency of update-manager-core, given that
update-manager-core requires that apport modules be present on the
system. So, I think that apport needs to be added as a dependency for
update-manager-core. Once I manually installed the apport package, the
upgrade process worked just fine.

[Bug 1057078] Re: signon-ui segfault error 4 in libQtNetwork.so.4.8.3

2012-09-30 Thread Jason Rogers
** Summary changed:

- signon-ui segfault error 4 in libQtNetwork.so.4.8.3 (blank screen in X and
hard shutdown required)
+ signon-ui segfault error 4 in libQtNetwork.so.4.8.3

** Description changed:

I'm using Ubuntu quantal (12.10), which I installed yesterday from the
daily build ISO (and updated some time late yesterday afternoon, EST).
The installed version of signon-ui is 0.10-0ubuntu1. I have a crash file
for signon-ui in /var/crash/, and no crash files for any other software,
so I am reporting this as a bug with signon-ui. There are a number of
unexpected signon-ui-related error messages in /var/log/syslog, all of
them reading as follows (though the ip and sp numbers are different):

  kernel: [ 1699.625675] signon-ui[2127]: segfault at 8 ip
  7f7a69284af6 sp 737be990 error 4 in
  libQtNetwork.so.4.8.3[7f7a691d9000+137000]
-
- I do not know if the following issues are related to signon-ui or not,
- but I am including them in this report in the off chance that they are.
-
- Whenever my computer's display goes to sleep and I attempt to wake it
- up, I am met with nothing but a blank screen, though I am expecting that
- it would display my desktop. On these occasions, the display *has* woken
- up, but it simply displays nothing. I am able to switch to a working
- terminal by hitting CTRL + ALT + F[#], and I can log in there. However,
- if I try to shut down (e.g., by issuing shutdown -h now or halt
- using sudo or the root account), the system attempts to shut down, gets
- part of the way there, then freezes (it stops at the purple screen with
- ubuntu and the dots; the dots stop getting filled in). I have to
- perform a hard shutdown by holding the power button down until the
- machine powers off. What I was expecting was that shutdown would
- function as usual.
-
- At *one* time when the above behavior occurred (but not at the others),
- there was a corresponding error message in /var/log/syslog from signon-
- ui (the same message as above). Again, I have no other programs
- crashing, and I do not see any other error messages in my logs at the
- time when the behavior occurs. So, it may or may not be related to these
- signon-ui errors. Thanks!

[Bug 577027] Re: unable to ssh to guest vm after volume attach when using virtio devices

2010-05-19 Thread Jason Rogers
I modified /usr/share/eucalyptus/gen_kvm_libvirt_xml as follows,

95c95
 cmdlineroot=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0/cmdline
---
 cmdlineroot=/dev/vda1 console=ttyS0/cmdline
105c105
 target dev='sda'/
---
 target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/
110c110
 model type='e1000'/
---
 model type='virtio'/

The guest is still running. I was even able to get console output. But
there is no ssh access.

[Bug 577027] [NEW] unable to ssh to guest vm after volume attach

2010-05-07 Thread Jason Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

kvm:
  Installed: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu9
  Candidate: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+0.12.3+noroms+0ubuntu9

500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I had a guest vm running on a eucalyptus cloud using virtio for disk and
network I/O. I also had an ssh session on the guest vm. When I attach a
volume to the instance using euca-attach-volume I lose network
connectivity to the guest.

Before I upgraded to lucid I was running karmic, and there was no issue.
After the upgrade, I started having issues.

I've tried the UEC 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 i386 images, along with some
custom amd64 images that worked previously under karmic.

Additionally, if I start the guest vm without virtio enabled in kvm,
then there are no issues.

I was using virtio so the argument was -d /dev/vdb

[Bug 577027] Re: unable to ssh to guest vm after volume attach

2010-05-07 Thread Jason Rogers
Additionally, if I start the guest vm without virtio enabled in kvm,
then there are no issues.

2010-05-07 Thread Jason Rogers
I was using virtio so the argument was -d /dev/vdb

Check out line 944.

942 if self.debug:
943 print 'Making essential directory %s' % mount_location
944 os.makedirs(dir_path)

It is indented, and therefore will not work unless you are running in
debugging mode. Which is probably why duplicate bugs keep appearing even
though it works in testing.
