[Bug 839480] Re: Dash - When the Dash is open and there is a maximised app in the background, the top bar background should not disappear
I don't understand the images radiance_topbar.png and ambiance_topbar.png, because there does not seems to be a maximised window on the desktop. Or are these just mock-ups. The way we do the rendering of the dash and the panel (Top Bar) is as follows: 1- Capture the background behind the element (dash or top bar) and blur it. 2- Blend the blurred background with the desktop background image average color. Lately, we have moved to doing blending operation the way Photoshop blends layer. Both the dash and the top bar use an overlay blending mode. The average color is the top layer while the blurred background is the bottom layer. 3- A shine effect is applied over the elements. The continuity between the dash and the top bar is ensured by the fact that they uses contiguous elements of the background which are blurred. The shine effect is also continuous between the dash and the top bar. My understanding is that when a window is maximised on the desktop and the dash is open, the blurred background should no longer be visible on the top bar. We can achieve this in step 2 by choosing a normal blending mode between the two layers. This hides the blurred background behind the average color layer. And the shine effect is applied normally in step 3. However we loose the continuity between the top bar and the dash. Only the continuity of the shine effect remains. Se the attached screenshot. Is this the effect we are looking to achieve? ** Attachment added: maximised-window-1.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/839480/+attachment/2923480/+files/maximised-window-1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839480 Title: Dash - When the Dash is open and there is a maximised app in the background, the top bar background should not disappear To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/839480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size
I have tested with a Dell mini 9 hooked on an external 1600x1200 monitor. The display resolution of the dell mini 9 is 1204x600 When I use the gnome display setting and I try to set a configuration that is not supported (size is too high), I am being warned to choose a lower resolution for the external monitor. For a system, like the Dell mini 9, this works fine as I can't expect such a system to have the resources to drive Unity on an external monitor with 1600x1200 resolution. I then used xrandr to configure the displays. With xrandr i got similar results as mentioned in #33. I could get Unity to work with xrandr provided the external display resolution isn't too high. Xrandr worked fine for an external resolution of 1024x768. For an external resolution of 1152x864, the rendering of the display was very slow, which suggest a software mode. Note that gnome display setting prevent me from setting an external resolution of 1152x864. From a user perspective, the preferred display configuration tool is the gnome display setting. From my experience, it produces the expected results. As for using xrandr directly and activating the Copy to Texture plugin in Compiz, this solution cannot work with Unity for external resolution that are too high. As state in #32, it would only work fine with standalone Compiz. Unity has no support for the Copy to Texture plugin and cannot be expected to work. I think the Copy to Texture plugin should be deactivated and users should use the gnome display setting as there preferred display setting tool. Xrandr, does the job of configuring the display resolution. But without any knowledge of the desktop environment memory requirements it cannot check the ability of the system to support a certain resolution. Yet, it is very useful tool as a low level display configuration utility. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830949 Title: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/830949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Many of the duplicate bugs report errors with loading of GLX. extension GLX missing on display :0. Xlib: extension GLX missing on display :0. Xlib: extension GLX missing on display :0. [Bug 808677] Re: Failed to activate external monitor (dual monitor mode)
I have tested with a fresh install of Oneiric on a intel core i3 system. I cannot reproduce the issue mentioned. My internal display is resolution is 1280x800 while my external monitor is 1280x1024. The gnome control panel offers the following resolutions for the external monitor: - 1024x768 - 800x600 I can run in dual monitor config with my internal resolution maxed at 1280x800 and any of the resolutions above for the external monitor. The control panel used to propose the option to choose the maximum resolution of my external monitor (1280x1024) but it doesn't do that anymore. It has been like that for a month or so. Previously, if I had tried to use the max resolution of the external monitor, things would become very slow as if running in software. So I suppose the control panel is more clever now and only offers resolution that can be supported. [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines
There seems to have been some changes in the monitor display setting. [Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines
I have a dell mini 9. It should be very similar CPU (if not the same) as the N10. I updated it today. Following that, I plug in an external monitor (max res 1280x1024) through a VGA cable. I was able to run Unity in these configuration: laptop: 1024x600 external monitor: 800x600: no major issue to report. Unity works well. laptop: 1024x600 external monitor: 832x624: no major issue to report. Unity works well. laptop: 1024x600 external monitor: 1024x768: starting to see some empty regions on the external monitor (black). Probably the limited video memory of the dell mini 9 is kicking in... laptop: 1024x600 external monitor: 1152x864: unusable My dell mini 9 system only has 1 GigaByte of RAM so it is possible that past a certain resolution, the system can't handle an external monitor correctly. It is also likely that the driver doesn't provide much help either... However, I couldn't reproduce the bug as reported here. From the picture of the bug, it looks like the system is trying to drive an HD monitor; probably one with an even higher resolution than my external monitor. So, I wonder if the system has enough RAM for that. Even if it does, we can't be certain how that RAM it is allocated (between the GPU and the CPU). - Is it possible to know the details of that particular system (in the picture): how much RAM does it has? - What is the resolution of the external monitor? - Is it possible to lower the external monitor resolution when setting up a multi-monitor configuration? - Does the problem shown in the picture still occurs when the external monitor resolution is at its lowest? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830949 Title: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/830949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 810971] Re: External monitor causes screen corruption
I was sable to reproduce the problem on my intel system: core i3 + GMA HD GPU + VGA cable. Something notable is this: - The bug can be reproduced when Unity starts without multi-monitor support. Then you plug in an external monitor and configure the system for a multi-monitor configuration. - If Unity starts with multi-monitor config already enable, then the problem cannot be reproduce. The system works fine in multi-monitor configuration. I have tested the system in several configurations and multi-monitor was working fine. It is only the case mentioned above that causes problem. I have briefly tested my desktop system (ATI GPU + open source driver) but couldn't reproduce the problem. So there maybe something specific to intel here.
