[Bug 1956849] Re: Almost all USB ports suddenly stopped working; unbootable

2022-01-31 Thread Jazz
@mruffell I tried to boot your custom kernel, but could not because of
an invalid signature. Seems to be because of secure boot, but I don't
know how to workaround this.

I had the same issue, also with 5.11.0-44-generic, reverting to kernel
5.11.0-41-generic fixes it. Prior to this I upgraded from Ubuntu 21.04
to 21.10 and no USB port worked, with kernel 5.13.0-23-generic.

@Michael,

Does your solution work consistently?

Someone shared a hack, if you power up the laptop while on Battery then
the trackpad is recognized (about 90% of the time). Looking forward to a
consistent solution.

So I turn on the laptop today, and the trackpad is working.

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]

However, I'm now finding it in the dmesg | grep touch

but wasn't able to find it when it wasn't working.

@bast1 I'm available to help debug as well... I love the laptop besides
this issue.

I use bash and still face this issue. The fix proposed at #18 doesn't
work entirely. You should add double quotes to the PATH and print the
new line properly by replacing echo with printf:

mkdir -p ~/.config/environment.d
printf
"PATH=\"$PATH:/snap/bin\"\nXDG_DATA_DIRS=\"${XDG_DATA_DIRS:-/usr/local/share:/usr/share}:/var/lib/snapd/desktop\""

Yup, #4 seems to have fixed it. That narrows the scope of the bug
considerably: now I'm reduced to complaining that it crashed, rather
than gracefully handling a corrupted database.

[Bug 1781832] [NEW] gnome tweak tool kills session when changing fonts

2018-07-15 Thread Jazz Veritas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04 on Dell XPS 15 9570.
gnome-tweak-tool 3.28.1-1

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open gnome-tweaks (via launcher or command line)
2) Switch to "fonts" page
3) Click the font switcher for "Interface" fonts (Others may also do this but I
can't test without losing this report.)

Expected:
Font chooser opens.

Actual:
System becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. Sometimes the chooser partially
renders at the end of this time. Whether it does or not, the session
immediately ends and bounces me back to the login screen.

This worked on my system at one point; I don't think I changed anything
since then besides installing various other packages and possibly `apt-
get update && apt-get upgrade`.

[Bug 1551115] [NEW] "Password incorrect" after wakeup from suspend

2016-02-29 Thread Jazz
Public bug reported:

Everytime I suspend my vanilla Ubuntu 15.10 (upgraded from clean 15.04)
I have the same issue: the login screen after I wake up my laptop says
my password is incorrect, which is not true. I use two keyboard layouts
(Croatian and English) and don't use any special characters, so I chose
a simple password for this - all of the letters are at the same place
on both of those keyboard layouts!

The background image on the login screen is also not loaded completely
after the computer was suspended - it loads only 50% or so, and the rest
of the image is filled with grey.

I tried to switch to both of my keyboard layouts and the same message
appears: Incorrect password, please try again.

Then I tried to suspend it again from the menu at the upper-right
corner, but it refuses to suspend from there. Each time I have to
manually turn off my laptop by pressing and holding the power-off
button. After the same login screen appears, (but this time it's NOT
after the laptop was suspended) I have no problems to login.

It's also not a caps lock issue with my password. And when I don't
suspend my laptop, open tty1, I could login normally.

I have updated my bios. Here the result of the command you asked me to enter :

However, nothing changed and my unity session crashed without any
warning. The system just go back the lightdm screen. Nothing change if I
use GDM. The problem does not occur if I use gnome shell. Here my syslog
file another time, during the crash :

[Bug 1511476] [NEW] Unstable unity session

2015-10-29 Thread JazZ
Public bug reported:

Hi,

My unity session crash randomly, when I am working on my computer, or
when nothing is done in my computer.

This occurs repeatedly since I have installed ubuntu 15.10.

This does not happen on my laptop. The main difference I noticed between
my computer and my laptop is that my laptop has an NVidia Graphic card
and my computer has an intel Core™ i5-2320 as CPU/GPU. So it has no
Graphic Card.

Here you will find my syslog file content, during the crash :

[Bug 872220] Re: Fails to boot when there's problems with softraid

2013-05-16 Thread JazZ
I am very shocked. I just had a disc (between RAID 5) which crashes, and
you are saying me, that it is not possible to boot and to access data ?
During the install (ubuntu 13.10), I have selected boot degraded, and
the system does not boot. Black screen, no error message, no shell
command after 20 minutes, and no initramfs. I can't do anything. I don't
understand this logic to say that it is preferable to not boot in order
to prevent data loss it it is not possible to mount the system. So my
data is protected, but I can access to it !

Shameful for a bug declared 1.5 years ago, and for a so critical bug !
Why have you not desactivated the ubuntu raid install since the bug is not
corrected ?

The only chance I have is to have preserved my older server and than a
part of my data.

[Bug 889071] Re: SATA III recognized as SATA II (chipset intel z68)

2013-05-07 Thread JazZ
I have read a news in french about the OCZ SSD discs. It appears that
the bios flash can be done with several ways, and one of its ways induce
the limitation of disc to SATA II (whereas the disc is optimized to SATA
III). I remember that before installing the system, I have flashed the
BIOS, but I don't remember what I have done exactly. Moreover, I can't
flash another time the bios without reseting all my data. So it is
possible that the problem comes from the disc. But if it is the case, I
can't explain the difference of speed between windows and ubuntu (one
with SATA III speeds, and the other with SATA II speeds).

[Bug 889071] Re: SATA III recognized as SATA II (chipset intel z68)

2012-10-20 Thread JazZ
Hi Christopher, the problems occurs since ubuntu 11.10. I can't tell if
the problem was the same before this release, because I have not got
already my SSD before. So I have not observed a regression. Just a
little progression : 330Mo/s instead of 300Mo/s since ubuntu 12.04.

dmesg screen me this :
[0.640125] ahci :00:1f.2: AHCI 0001.0300 32 slots 6 ports 6 Gbps 0x7
impl SATA mode
[0.656645] ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xfa305000 port 0xfa305100
irq 47
[0.656647] ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xfa305000 port 0xfa305180
irq 47
[0.656649] ata3: SATA max UDMA/133 abar m2048@0xfa305000 port 0xfa305200
irq 47
[0.975936] ata1: SATA link up 6.0 Gbps (SStatus 133 SControl 300)
[0.975961] ata2: SATA link up 6.0 Gbps (SStatus 133 SControl 300)
[0.975985] ata3: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 300)

I can see that SATA III is recognized for two of my drivers (one SSD and
one standard disk). The other drive is an optical disk. But I am not
really sure about the signification of UDMA/133. This protocol is old.

[Bug 994194] Re: Unable to load dynamic library pdo_pgsql.so

2012-05-05 Thread JazZ
Hi Clint,

Thanks for your help. It's important for me to do what I can do to
improve a free software.

I have checked the file /etc/php5/conf.d/pdo_pgsql.ini :
; configuration for php PostgreSQL module
extension=pdo_pgsql.so

I have made a 'find / -name pdo_sql.so and the only file I have found is
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_pgsql.so. When I uninstall php5-pgsql,
the file disapears. When I reinstall it, the file appears.

I think, also that it is a problem of version between and newer, but I have no
idea where to look for. But this line interested me : Module 'pgsql' already
loaded in Unknown on line 0
I have checked /etc/pĥp5/conf.d, and there is two files pdo_pgsql.ini, and
pgsql.ini, each not containing the same link (pdo_pgsql.so and pgsql.so). Same
thing for mysql. Does I delete one these files ?

[Bug 994194] Re: Unable to load dynamic library pdo_pgsql.so

2012-05-05 Thread JazZ
When i do 'php -i | grep extension_dir', I got:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_mysql.so' -
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_mysql.so: undefined symbol: pdo_parse_params in
Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library

/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_pgsql.so: undefined symbol: pdo_parse_params in
Unknown on line 0
extension_dir = /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs = /usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs

So the directory is not exactly the same that yours. But directories
returned by 'php -i', and phpinfo() are the same.

Concerning the php configuration, I know that in the past, I have
followed a tutorial to improve the secutity of the server. But every
thing worked and I dont think that I have changed some links (only php
parameters).

But there is something more interesting when I do 'debsums -e php5-common' :
debsums: missing file /etc/php5/conf.d/pdo.ini (from php5-common package)
/etc/cron.d/php5 OK

I have reinstalled php5-common hoping to see this file created, but
whitout any result. I have made also 'dpkg-reconfigure php5-common'
without any result.

Others debsums worked well.

[Bug 994194] [NEW] Unable to load dynamic library pdo_pgsql.so

2012-05-03 Thread JazZ
Public bug reported:

At the bigining, I just updated ubuntu 10.04 to ubuntu 12.04. Everything
worked excepted davical.

Davical enables me to to have a shared calendar, for personal et professional
thinks. I have spent some time to debug davical, and I have see that it is
impossible for davical (in php) to connect to PstGreSQL database through PDO.
I have then chekced logs of apache, and I have found these errors :
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_mysql.so' -
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_mysql.so: undefined symbol: pdo_parse_params in
Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_pgsql.so' -
/usr/lib/php5/20090626+lfs/pdo_pgsql.so: undefined symbol: pdo_parse_params in
Unknown on line 0
PHP Warning: Module 'pgsql' already loaded in Unknown on line 0

So you can see that this bug affect pdo_sql and pdo_pgsql.

I have reinstalled php5-pgsql package, bug nothing happens. I have no
idea to correct this bug.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have tested the lasted kernel located here :

and named :
linux-image-3.2.0-030200rc1-generic_3.2.0-030200rc1.20071935_amd64.deb

The sata is always limited to something about 308Mo/s. palimset indicates me
that thing about the controler :
6 series/C200 series chipset familly 6 port SATA AHCI controler. Noting about
the SATA I, II or III.

As you tell me, I have removed 'needs-upstream-testing', and added the
tag 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

[Bug 889071] [NEW] SATA III recognized as SATA II (ubuntu 11.10, chipset intel z68)

2011-11-11 Thread JazZ
Public bug reported:

Hello,

My SSD OCZ vertex 3 60Go SATAIII and my WesternDigital 500Go/s SATAIII
are recognized as SATA II discs, according to palimpsest. When I run
hdparm -tT /dev/sd?, it returns me that my SSD works à 300Mo/s which
means that the disc is effectively limited by the SATA II norm. I have
tested the same configuration under windows, and the SSD runs at 480Mo/s
in average.

My chipset is the intel Z68, and I have updated both BIOS's motherboard
and BIOS's SSD. The AHCI mode is activated.

I have made lot of researches on the web, and the only subjects which
talk about the SATA III refers to problems of HDD detection on linux
distributions relatively old. No web site talks about my problem.

Is there a solution to activate the SATA III, or should I wait for the
next kernel ?

Thanks.

[Bug 865001] Re: [regression] sharing a network with other computers no longer works in oneiric

2011-10-16 Thread JazZ
I don't know why, but after having switched off the computer (by
removing the wired cable from the electricity, not only by shuting
down), the lan work well now. Something is got in memory even if the
computer is switched off but not deconnected from the electricity. There
is perhaps a relation with windows, because this bug appears just after
restarting from windows.

[Bug 820603] Re: ethernet very slow

2011-10-15 Thread JazZ
I have exactly the same problem with my wired connection on ubuntu
11.10.

My computer worked well. After having restarting from windows to ubuntu,
my connection have lot of latency. Some times my computer works well (10
seconds) and some other times, I have to wait 6 to 10 seconds before
seing google screened. Its the same thing for every site and every click
on the navigator. My connection with inner lan with other computers has
the same problem. Very hard to get a connection in SSH.

Other computers on the house don't have this problem (wired ou wifi).

I have a internet box as router which delivrates dhcp ips. I have
restarting the box with no effect.

This concerned computer is nine. He have less than 7 days, and I don't
have tested other versions of ubuntu on it. I have installed ubuntu
11.10 one day before its release (beta 2 daily). During the install, I
have got a problem saying me that the lan installation have not be done
correctly. The same error appears during the installation of another
computer which don't have problems of lan.

Note that the computer concerned by the bug had not any problems during
the first week of use.

I don't know if it is a problem of driver, but it curious that it's
appears spontaneoulsy without any apparent reason.

[Bug 865001] Re: [regression] sharing a network with other computers no longer works in oneiric

2011-10-15 Thread JazZ
I have exactly the same problem. But this problem appears just today,
whereas I have used my computer with no problems since less than one
week.

During the install of ubuntu 11.10 (beta 2 daily one day before the
release), an arror occured during the installation of my two computers.
Its saids that the lan installation have not be done correctly. But the
two computers (PC and laptop) worked well after that.

The PC concerned by this bug is nine and I have not tested other version
of ubuntu for comparing.

There are lot of latencies during each requests and ssh connection are
very difficult.

I have made the IPV6 to ignore and kilked dnsmasq with no issue.

[Bug 480587] [NEW] mouse lock breaks easily.

2009-11-11 Thread Dead Die Jazz
Public bug reported:

Eh, I can show you a screenshot if you want, but basically, the mouse
lock doesn't do a particularly good job of locking the mouse. Perhaps
it's not designed to hold down the mouse particularly well, but well,
if I wiggle my mouse enough, my cursor breaks free, and clicking no
longer unlocks it, unless I return it to the corner.

2009-11-05 Thread JazZ
I tried also to install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic with
no effect.

Note that the panel to configure the sound was very simplified. Before
9.10, we could personalize the sound with the specific speakers of the
laptop. We could also choose between pulseaudio, alsa or others sound
server. I am very surprised of this regression, considering that this
default configuration is not very adapted...

Intel Graphics driver. Reverting back to the Jaunty version of the
driver fixed the problem.

Maybe this issue is related to the Intel Graphics driver...

2009-10-22 Thread JazZ
Orriginaly, I have specified the package gdm. But this package have been
changed (by someone else) to xspash. Notes that this bug doesn't concern
the first ubuntu boot step (only a ubuntu logo screened), but the second
ubuntu step (ubuntu+logo+pseudo-progressbar). This second step appears
when I restart gdm : that why I have specified the package gdm. The fist
step of the ubuntu boot works well because the dual screen isn't already
activated (X isn't started). I let this package to be xsplash because I
am not a specialist...

[Bug 442304] [NEW] Rhythmbox track progress bar doesn't work when playing mp3s

2009-10-04 Thread Jazz Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox doesn't display position in the song and cannot be used to
skip to a new position in the song. Unlike what I saw on other previous
bug reports, the timer on the right DOES work properly and the player
WILL advance to the next song, it just never displays any progress.

[Bug 442304] Re: Rhythmbox track progress bar doesn't work when playing mp3s

2009-10-04 Thread Jazz Williams
I've discovered that this bug actually comes and goes. Sometimes it uses
the progress bar and other times it doesn't. It seems to depend on the
song. Some mp3s will display the progress bar and others will not. Even
the ones that do do not seem to allow skipping forward within the song.

[Bug 155835] partitioner/wine

2007-10-22 Thread jazz
Public bug reported:

Hi,
Some nice effects in 7.10 but very disappointed in the installation.
I have used Ubuntu for many years and have had no problem installing it before
this version.
The sticking point was the Partitioner, the English is not very explanatory. I
the past I have had no problem setting up a partition but this time, following
the instructions led me to loose all my data on my second drive!
That's never happened before and in the end I resorted to booting Partition
Magic to sort it out.
The other thing is that under 7.04, using Wine, I had no trouble installing and
running some Windows software I need, like my Pentax camera stuff. Under 7.10
all I get is a splash screen and that's it, nothing works.
I do hope these issues can be corrected and look forward to using 7.10 but for
the time being it's back to 7.04.
Thanks.

This was forwarded after being sent to the wrong place.

[Bug 47538] Re: Package should not install over existing tar installation

2007-08-16 Thread Jazz
After much cursing, I'm slowly making progress while trying to install
this sucker. Removing everything in the /etc/vmware dir seemed to just
mess things up for Adept. Plus, it didn't work here, so I don't
recommend it.

Here's my recipe so far:

1) Using the Adept Manager, install the vmware-player-kernel-modules
package to match your kernel's release and build (in my case, these were
version 2.6.17-12).¹ If you get stuck with Adept Manager to the point
where it doesn't let you install stuff, enter dpkg --configure -a in
your terminal.² ³

2) Possibly unneeded, issue a dpkg --configure -a² ³.

3) Load some needed kernel modules by issuing these commands²:
modprobe vmmon
modprobe vmnet
modprobe bridge

4) Install or reinstall the vmware-player package issuing: apt-get
install vmware-player². Answer yes (or just press Return) to all
questions.

These are the results on my machine:

Starting VMware services:
   Virtual machine monitor done
   Virtual ethernetdone
   Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 failed
   Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background)done
   Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background)done
   NAT service on /dev/vmnet8 failed
invoke-rc.d: initscript vmware-player, action start failed.
dpkg: error processing vmware-player (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 vmware-player

As you see, there are still errors (namely on bridged networking and NAT) but I
still don't know if they affect services that I need. The program starts OK, I
haven't tried to load any VM so far. Will keep you posted if I encounter more
problems.

Notes:

¹ To find out your kernel's release/build numbers, issue uname -a in your
terminal.
² All terminal commands given here must be issued as root.
³ Ignore the errors returned here, if any.

[Bug 67487] Re: [regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2007-01-19 Thread jazz
Forgot to mention download alternative cd install in text mode
when you restart choose safe mode option.Wait for command prompt type lspci
get the busid number for your pci graphics card mine was 01:00:0 it might list
two use the vga one. Then back at the command prompt type sudo dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg choose ati then tab and enter.Go through all the options when you
get to your pci busid type the number of your card in.Then restart pc worked
for me if you get an error message could not allocate pci region 0 or something
like that
pc will still start but do this work around:Open you GRUB configuration file.

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

To proceed, you'll need to know the framebuffer code for your desired
resolution:

Code

Resolution

vga=785   640x480

vga=788800x600

vga=7911024x768

vga=7941280x1024

   1.

  Automatic (and update-proof) GRUB Configuration

Find the line

# defoptions=quiet splash

and add your framebuffer resolution code, e.g. (for 1024x768)

# defoptions=quiet splash vga=791

Save the file, then execute

sudo update-grub

This will now keep even after any future kernel update, unlike the
method below. You're all done.

to fix this issue start in safe mode and wait for command prompt may take
awhile then do lspci look for ati vga. Then write down pci bus number mine was
1:00:0 restart again in safe mode and wait for the command promt. Then do sudo
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg you will then see options to set up graphics
choose ati then press tab then enter set up everything then when you get busid
put in the number you wrote down. Then finish off set up and restart hope this
