[Bug 1815278] Re: LyX restores the same cursor position wherever it was placed next time(s)

2021-12-13 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
Do you have more than 100 files remembered in session file? We
supposedly have fixed this in 2.3.4, if this is the bug I have in mind.

Are other parameters of session (e.g. window size), correctly
remembered?

if I add blacklist= to load-module module-switch-on-connect, switching
to HDMI is no longer inhibited, and the HDMI output is listed first in
pavucontrol, but the output still disappears for good when the monitor
goes to sleep.

[Bug 1895665] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches away from HDMI after display sleep

2021-03-08 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1888598 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888598

Here is what happens as seen by pulseaudio - during the monitor
sleep/wake cycle leading to disappearance of the HDMI output:

D: [pulseaudio] alsa-util.c: ELD info empty (for device=3)
D: [pulseaudio] module-alsa-card.c: Jack 'HDMI/DP,pcm=3 Jack' is now unplugged
D: [pulseaudio] device-port.c: Setting port hdmi-output-0 to status no
D: [pulseaudio] core-subscribe.c: Dropped redundant event due to change event.
D: [pulseaudio] module-switch-on-port-available.c: Trying to switch away from
port hdmi-output-0, found no better option
I: [pulseaudio] core.c: default_sink: alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo
-> alsa_output.pci-_00_1f.3.iec958-stereo
D: [pulseaudio] card.c: Setting card alsa_card.pci-_65_00.1 profile
output:hdmi-stereo to availability status no
D: [pulseaudio] core-subscribe.c: Dropped redundant event due to change event.
D: [pulseaudio] module-switch-on-port-available.c: Active profile
output:hdmi-stereo on card alsa_card.pci-_65_00.1 became unavailable,
switching to another profile
D: [pulseaudio] sink.c: alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo: state:
SUSPENDED -> UNLINKED
D: [pulseaudio] source.c: alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo.monitor:
state: SUSPENDED -> UNLINKED
D: [alsa-sink-HDMI 0] alsa-sink.c: Thread shutting down
I: [pulseaudio] sink.c: Freeing sink 1
"alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo"
I: [pulseaudio] source.c: Freeing source 2
"alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo.monitor"
D: [pulseaudio] card.c: alsa_card.pci-_65_00.1: active_profile:
output:hdmi-stereo -> off
D: [pulseaudio] core-subscribe.c: Dropped redundant event due to change event.
D: [pulseaudio] alsa-util.c: ELD info empty (for device=3)
D: [pulseaudio] module-alsa-card.c: Jack 'HDMI/DP,pcm=3 Jack' is now unplugged
D: [pulseaudio] alsa-util.c: ELD info empty (for device=3)

Although slightly redundant, it looks all right.
Part of the problem seems to come from blacklisting HDMI monitors by default
(not switching to them when they are plugged in). But that's the second part of
the problem.

I: [pulseaudio] module-switch-on-connect.c: Refusing to switch to
blacklisted sink alsa_output.pci-_65_00.1.hdmi-stereo

The first and major issue is the absence of any event detection when the
DP monitor wakes up.

"pulseaudio -k" restarts the daemon, and probing at startup seems to
find it again.

[Bug 1895665] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches away from HDMI after display sleep

2021-03-08 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1888598 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888598

Hi!
Affected by this bug, but not exactly bug #1888598.
Config: Asus Extreme Omega integrated HDA Intel PCH as Card 1 + ASUS Nvidia
3090 as Card 2.
Card 0 is an USB webcam and only an audio input.

Problem occurs as described: the audio output changes when the monitor
connected to a DisplayPort output goes to sleep (after locking). No need
for the computer to go through a sleep/wake cycle.

Normal operation is restored by 'pulseaudio -k', then choosing the
correct output using e.g. pavucontrol.

Commands 'pactl list' and 'pacmd list-cards' give different results:

pacmd list-cards:
before: HDMI output is available
ports:
hdmi-output-0: HDMI / DisplayPort (priority 5900, latency
offset 0 usec, available: yes)
properties:
device.icon_name = "video-display"

after:
ports:
hdmi-output-0: HDMI / DisplayPort (priority 5900, latency
offset 0 usec, available: no)
properties:
device.icon_name = "video-display"

pactl list:

Partie du(des) profil(s) : output:hdmi-stereo

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2019-07-13 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
Thank you for taking the time to review the issue. I'll try to ask some
information from an upstream point of view. Also, your remarks are
interesting wrt our policy of creating the final stable release.

I will start by the end: all our stable releases 2.x.y with y>0 are a
form of this cherry picking. We have a stable release manager who vets
such backporting on a case-by-case basis. We do not have comprehensive
regression tests for all these changes because (1) we are a small team
and (2) it is more difficult with a GUI.

Since I am on the issue of tests, what we have now is
* a few unit tests
* a reasonable set of tests for tex2lyx (importation from LaTeX)
* a reasonable set of tests of all possible export cases, although in this case
we mostly check that the exported LaTeX actually compiles. We do catch bugs
with it, though.
* we routinely run coverity scan on master branch and backport meaningful
fixes, and have a policy of having no compile warnings with -Wall -Wextra.

I understand that this is not professional-level quality insurance, but
at least we do try :)

The two big chunks of interest are:
* boost
  - update included boost to 1.60: this is typically not used in a ubuntu
build, which uses system
library
  - updates to compile with boost 1.60: this is needed in general since we want
LyX to be compilable on
more modern distributions.
I understand that these changes are not necessary for xenial.
* lyx2lyx: I am not sure what to think about that. I used to think that this
was definitely the way to
do it, but now I see your point about the amount of changes. All I can say is
that reading old files,
along with not losing work on a crash, are two things we are very careful
with. This is what it takes
to have users who trust us. Note that, thanks to lyx2lyx, LyX is still able
to read and typeset files
  from the 0.7 era (1995).

I completely see your point about manual cherry-picking. However, we do
not have people doing that for each distribution. What I think is that
the work the we do at a global level with these stable distributions is
the best we can do given our lack of manpower. We try to maintain a real
difference between what goes into stable releases vs master branch.

What we want to setup soon is a service of nightly builds for at least
ubuntu so that at a few users get a chance to catch bugs earlier.

I will end with another argument towards your proto-decison of rejecting
the update: we do provide a ppa (lyx-devel) which provides recent lyx
builds for older distributions, under our responsibility. This is not
totally upd to date these days, as I have to take it over and I do not
understand anything about launchpad :)

2019-05-26 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

With update 1.173.6 of linux-firmware (bionic-updates) a new firmware file
was installed :
  /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4366c-pcie.bin

Package revision 1.173 does not have the 4366c file (it only has the 4366b
file).
Under 16.04 the ASUS PCE-AC88 was wrongly loading a 4366b firmware, and did
not work out of the box.

I followed instructions to retrieve the correct firmware from drivers
available on the manufacturer web site, and I was having no issue.

I upgraded my system to 18.04.2, and wifi worked very well until the
installation of linux-firmware 1.173.6, which came with bionic-updates.
After this update, the remotely operated server dropped the wifi
connection, requiring a local intervention, and had long freezes making
it drop connection and sometimes seem to fail to boot up.

In addition syslog was filled with messages:
  brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_alloc_pktid: dma_map_single failed !!
brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_rxbuf_data_post: No PKTID available !!

  I also had in kern.log:
[191882.330601] brcmfmac :04:00.0: swiotlb buffer is full (sz: 2048 bytes)
[191882.330603] brcmfmac :04:00.0: DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 2048
bytes
  [191882.330605] brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_alloc_pktid: dma_map_single failed !!
  [191882.330607] brcmfmac: brcmf_msgbuf_rxbuf_data_post: No PKTID available !!

Both pointing to potentially serious DMA problems.

When I noticed that my firmware had been overwritten, I recovered
another one from ASUS support web site, using the same method I had used
previously. The system and wifi now seem to work correctly.

This computer lacks an IOMMU. The problem might not occur on more modern
hardware equipped with a hardware IOMMU.

More information on the fairly old system (issue might be also hardware
  dependent):

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2019-05-20 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
I am one of the upstream developers. What I can say about this 2.1.5
version is

* we have unit tests for the code, but I would not qualify them as
extensive.

* LyX 2.1.5 builds without compiler warnings on xenial, using g++ 5.4
with options -Wall and -Wextra (except for some harmless Qt-generated
code that we do not control).

* as the last release of the 2.1.x series, LyX 2.1.5 has been build very
conservatively, so that it would not introduce new problems. It does fix
50 bugs.

* I do not remember of any new problem introduced in 2.1.5. Inspection
of the 5 bugs marked as "2.1.5" did not reveal evidence of a regression
in this particular version.

* the only new feature is the possibility to read/write LyX 2.2.x files,
which is very valuable in itself.

I am not sure this fulfills the SRU rules, but I want to emphasize that
long term releases are the main targets of a release such as this one.
We have a stable release manager whose job is to ensure that people can
upgrade stable releases with low risk, and is twice as cautious
(annoying?) for the last one in a series.

[Bug 1811571] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.2.4 in Bionic

2019-05-20 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
I am one of the upstream developers. What I can say about this 2.2.4
version is

* we have unit tests for the code, but I would not qualify them as
extensive

* as of versions 2.2.x, we have a rather extensive test repository that
checks whether our file export routines (which is the main purpose of
LyX after all) work well.

* as the last release of the 2.2.x series, LyX 2.2.4 has been build very
conservatively, so that it would not introduce new problems. It does fix
56 bugs, among which crashes like bug #1737429.

* I do not remember of any new problem introduced in 2.2.4.
Unfortunately, we did not create a "2.2.4" version in our bug tracker,
so I cannot substantiate that.

* the only new feature is the possibility to read/write LyX 2.3.x files,
which is very valuable in itself.

I am not sure this fulfill the SRU rules, but I want to emphasize that
long term releases is the main target of a release such as this one. We
have a stable release manager whose job is to sure that people can
upgrade stable releases with low risk, and is twice as cautious for the
last one in a series.

[Bug 353449] Re: lyx 1.6.x impossibly slow

2019-04-25 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
For what is worth, the new update mechanism has been ported to LyX
2.3.1. Currently, this is only available on Disco, which has LyX 2.3.2.
It is of course available through the ppa for older versions. I would be
very interested to know whether this new scheme (basically "do things as
it should have been done from the start") helps.

Re: [Bug 1611737] Re: Can't upgrade from a release if ros packages are installed from ROS servers

2019-03-22 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
Thanks to all. I removed a bunch of packages related to ROS and managed to
perform the update. Some issues linked to deep system level changes. 18.04
has more than one way of going a few things, and which one is used depends
on history, server or desktop release ...

[Bug 1789507] Re: bionic upgrader fails quickly after downloads

2018-11-27 Thread Jean-Marc Le Peuvedic
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1611737 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1611737

Thanks for pointing out bug #1611737.
I did not have Ros installed but I purged the Debian science-robotics package
anyway, and the upgrade then worked.

I only had the mandatory dependencies installed. No recommended, no
suggested dependency installed.

[Bug 1602145] Re: [needs-packaging] LyX version 2.2.x should go into LTS (maybe backported?)

2018-09-14 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
1/ thanks for 2.1.5. I tested it and answered in the bug itself.

2/ yes, a 2.2.4 debdiff would be appreciated.

3/ backporting would indeed be a very good idea. The best is to wait
until LyX 2.3.1, which should be made available in a few days.

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2018-09-14 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
Thank you Juhani for doing that. I tested briefly the binary on the ppa
and did not experience any problem. I was indeed able to open and
typeset files from LyX 2.2.x.

I reviewed the announcement of LyX 2.1.5 and do not believe that we made
changes that may affect the packaging.

[Bug 1602145] Re: [needs-packaging] LyX version 2.2.x should go into LTS (maybe backported?)

2018-09-12 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
I do not know much about Ubuntu policies, but I can add my grain of salt
as a LyX developer.

1/ it would be very important to get at least LyX 2.1.5 in 16.04LTS,
since the last stable version is updated to be able to read file from
the next series.

2/ similarly 18.04 should at least upgrade to 2.2.4.

4/ Although we missed the train for 18.04 release, it would be very nice
to update 18.04 to LyX 2.3.1, especially since the LTS is here to stay
and 2.3 will be the current format for the next two years (by
experience).

I understand this comment is vaguely off topic, but I do not really know
who is "in charge" of this package and how we should proceed. Note that
neither 2.1.5 nor 2.2.4 are packaged in Debian.

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2018-02-12 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
Dear Tobias,

Sorry for not answering earlier. 2.3.0 will hopefully be released in a
couple of weeks. Version 2.3.0rc2 has already been packaged in debian
experimental, so that should be able to package the final version
easily.

This is going to be short, but not undoable :)

Same issue here.

pip 1.5.4 from /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages (python 2.7)
# pip2 --version
pip 1.5.4 from /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages (python 2.7)
# pip3 --version
pip 1.5.4 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages (python 3.4)

I tried:

pip install b2
pip2 install b2
pip3 install b2

And I still have the same error:

BackendException: B2 backend requires B2 Python APIs (pip install b2)

It was working fine until now (Ubuntu 14.04 64bit).

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2017-12-14 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
To be frank, I do not have any idea of how to do that. I am a LyX
developer, but I know nothing about packaging. I took a look at the
debian packages, and it turns our that 2.1.5 never got packaged there.
How is one supposed to proceed in this case?

I am interested to make this go forward, but not if it means a too large
investment...

PS: what is the deadline for getting 2.3.0 (which is not released yet)
into bionic? How long before this date do we need to prepare?

[Bug 1595358] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.1.5 in Xenial

2017-12-14 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
Sorry, I missed the fact that xenial is LTS, so it is still possible to
upgrade some packages.

So putting my LyX developer hat on, I see three arguments for upgrading:
 * LyX 2.1.5 fixes several crashes
 * it is able to read files from LyX 2.2.x, as found in newer Ubuntu versions.
 * we are very careful to avoid introducing new bugs in our stable series

What has to be done for that to happen?

Am I right that this is related to upgrade LyX over an older ppa

[Bug 1600661] Re: Simple document doesn't compile: "Limit controls must follow a math operator"

2017-12-13 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
\sideset (from amsmath package) is only designed to add sub/supercripts
on both sides of big operators like \sum. The fact that it breaks in
other situations could be see as an amsmath bug. Of course, LyX could
have a UI to avoid that, but it is difficult to imagine which one.

Concerning your comment below the video, actually you do not move the
(blinking) cursor to the main window, only the mouse cursor. Therefore
the undo command goes to the place where the blinking cursor is, in the
ERT inset.

I also tried to reproduce it, even with the ubuntu-provided binary, but
did not succeed. There is something that we are missing. I see however
that the ubuntu binary is built with -fstack-protector and I presume
that it can catch things that we do not routinely see.

[Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2017-11-15 Thread jean-marc
The latest patch does work when you realize that the skb_put function
has recently changed from (unsigned char*) to (void *) ( see
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/776580/ for fix).

The lines where appears "*skb_put" need to be changed to "*(u8
*)skb_put". This was enough for me to get my bluetooth adapter to work
(MSI GS60 6QC). This may not be the best way but I am not a competent
programmer

Thanks for the package !

[Bug 1600782] Re: Not translated string

2016-11-07 Thread Jean-Marc
Salut Olivier,

Oupsss, j'ai cru qu'il s'agissait d'un de mes bogues.
Et comme j'ai vu les boutons traduits, j'ai passé à « Fix Released ».
Je te laisse reprendre la main et repasser à « Confirmed » si c'est le cas.

Mille excuses

Jean-Marc

[Bug 1340461] Re: Nikon CoolPix 5600 camera not recognized

2016-07-21 Thread Jean-Marc
Hello Joseph,

Yes, I think this issue happened after an update/upgrade but I don't
remember the kernel version. The problem first appear with Ubuntu 14.04.

V4.7-rc7 is now installed on my computer and the bug is still present,
same error message in Shotwell.

Thank you
