backup was working fine 2 weeks ago, now it started giving this error

can confirm after updating ubuntu Xenial and removing nomodeset from
boot options, everything seems to work again :)

i really don't understand why they allow anyone to update the status in 
launchpad, it only creates confusion, especially when you can't revert 
accidental changes :(

i'm also on the 4.13 kernel on xenial
thanks for fixing the issue!
it's really important for me cause i really need my external monitor to be more 
productive at work
can't wait for the xenial kernel update to drop

any way to fix it for regular users (without compiling a kernel)
nomodeset works, but i can't use my external display if i use it
