2022 still happens on AWS Ubuntu 20.04. But in my case, is 100% of the time, not sometimes. apt 1.0.1ubuntu2 for amd64 compiled on Jan 12 2016 20:13:58 Still with the same problem. The root folder populate with the downloaded .debs. @dabas Empathy never had proxy support by default. So maybe you installed a plugin or something and the upgrade disabled it. Same here, ubuntu 8.04 Hp Pavilion dv 1000. ALT-TAB freeze X. To solve: CTR-ALT F1 and CTR-ALT F7. It is noted that i installed xubuntu-desktop package, switched to an xfce session (it's still gtk) and there emacs doesn't hang.
