[Bug 887446] Re: mlabel: renaming USB stick appends nA to name

2011-12-05 Thread Joe Pearson
Confirmed with gparted on Kubuntu Oneiric amd64.

(KDE Partition Editor refuses to label fat32 volumes at all!)

Partial, ugly workaround ... append hyphens or underscores to pad to 11
characters, e.g. 'new-name___'.

[Bug 786319] Re: [regression] Severe graphical artifacting with Hulu/Flash in Firefox

2011-07-08 Thread Joe Pearson
I believe this is related to bug #761074
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-
nonfree/+bug/761074 and applies to all flash videos in Firefox. Also,
rectangles can sometimes be white instead of dark grey.

I also believe it's specific to 64bit, and the 64bit flash PPA mentioned
in the above bug may be a fix.

[Bug 546242] Re: battery fully charged notification appears as soon as AC power plugged in

2010-04-05 Thread Joe Pearson
* Removed power
* Ran the command killall gnome-power-manager gnome-power-manager --verbose
21 | tee gpm.log
* Reattached power
* Different behaviour:
  - The power manager icon in the notification area immediately disappeared,
and there was no tooltip - but the power manager output did show a line -
tooltip: Laptop battery is fully charged

* Removed power and let it run down to about 65%
* Ran command killall gnome-power-manager  gnome-power-manager --verbose
21 | tee gpm-2.log
* Waited a while
* Reattached power
* Notification battery fully charged did appear, and power icon disappeared
* After about 20s, power icon reappeared
* power manager stopped

Attaching gpm.log and gpm-2.log.

[Bug 546242] [NEW] battery fully charged notification appears as soon as AC power plugged in

2010-03-24 Thread Joe Pearson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

As soon as I plug AC power into my laptop, the OSD notification Battery
Fully Charged appears. Usually this is wrong as the battery is partly
or fully discharged. Other power notifications are correct: the same
notif appears when the battery really has been fully charged, and
Battery Discharging (with time and percentage details) appears when AC
power is lost.

The panel battery icon tooltip *does* show correct details (minutes
until charged, current percentage).

I expect instead a message Battery Charging

I hope the ubuntu-bug attachments are sufficient...

I second this (even if it gets treated as a feature request rather than
a bug) - the displayed information is limited at present.

[Bug 546267] [NEW] No warnings on low or critical battery and no hibernation

2010-03-24 Thread Joe Pearson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Karmic

I get no warnings of low or critical battery, and no hibernation
happens. I've lost data on two occasions as a result.

I've changed the gconf key /apps/gnome-power-
manager/general/use_time_for_policy to false, and I've changed the
percentages in thresholds/ to 30/35/40; still nothing.

(The panel icon tooltip does display the correct battery percentage and
remaining time, but it's just not obvious enough. OSD notifications are
needed!)

Hibernate and suspend work when called directly.

I've enabled hibernation on low battery via laptop-mode-tools, and that
*does* work - but it doesn't provide any notifications.

This may be a duplicate of #135548 but following suggestions in that very long
bug I'm posting a new one. I am currently collecting
gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose
output and will attach it.

Output of

[Bug 546267] Re: No warnings on low or critical battery and no hibernation

2010-03-24 Thread Joe Pearson
gnome-power-manager --verbose
produces output.

gpm1.log is the output after a cold boot with no AC power attached. The
right notifications were shown! At the configured 50% and 45% (these are
testing values obviously) and the system hibernated at 40%.

gpm2.log is the output after charging for a while, resuming and removing
AC power. It discharged to ~35% with no notifications or action.

The other difference is that I have a Logitech wireless mouse with a
rechargeable battery. gpm report the power level in this (although it
only has two values ... 71.4% and 14.7%). Could this interfere? It was
not attached for the duration of gpm1.log but was attached for gpm2.log.
