[Bug 2063827] Re: Gnome Control Center fails to open on Wayland
I want to add: I faced a similar issue. Though updating to the 550 drivers through apt seemingly fixed the issue, there was actually more issues at play. First and foremost, on the Wayland session, running "glxinfo | egrep "OpenGL vendor|OpenGL renderer" returns: "OpenGL vendor string: Mesa OpenGL renderer string: llvmpipe (LLVM 17.0.6, 256 bits)" Upon some further research, I learned that the renderer being "llvmpipe" means that the nvidia driver isn't properly working. I'll note, also, that I could only install the driver using apt, as the ubuntu-drivers utility didn't show any drivers newer than 535. I can't tell if the driver installation broke, but nvidia-smi does return the expected output. And on XOrg, glxinfo mentions the nvidia drivers and my graphics card (RTX 4080). I don't know if this implies that the nvidia drivers are currently bugged on wayland. Again, I had a similar issue as OP upon a fresh install. All the gnome apps crashed (settings, the first-installation greeter) and going through the errors, it listed a segmentation fault (I'm sorry, but I can't reproduce it now). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063827 Title: Gnome Control Center fails to open on Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-535/+bug/2063827/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914953] Re: grub2 incompatibility between at_keyboard and gfxterm modules lead to impossible to type passphrase or access ubuntu grub2 menu on a fully encrypted installation
I can confirm this bug. But a qemu machine seems unaffected. There is another effect: Step 1: Let the GRUB console start. Step 2: select console as terminal_input and terminal_output. This is the default anyways. Step 3: set a non-US keyboard layout since console is the active terminal_input, the new layout has no effect yet Step 4: set console AND at_keyboard (both! This is possible) as terminal_input now ALL keys you press are handled by at_keyboard. You can detect this because the non-US keyboard layout is used for all keys pressed. There is no delay, everything just works great right now. Step 5: activate gfxterm as terminal_output Now strange things happen: press a key that would be affected by the non-US keboard layout. You get random output now: the character you see can be affected by the non-US layout, it can be the US layout character or the keypress does nothing at all. The only difference to step 4: gfxterm is active Why does gfxterm affect at_keyboard? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914953 Title: grub2 incompatibility between at_keyboard and gfxterm modules lead to impossible to type passphrase or access ubuntu grub2 menu on a fully encrypted installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1914953/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1852581] Re: hwe-edge kernel 5.3.0-23.25 kernel does not boot on Precision 5720 AIO
I'm also getting the same issue on an ASUS VivoBook K451LB (x86_64, UEFI boot). 5.3.0-19.20 is the last kernel that boots on this system, all subsequent ones fail and drop to the initramfs prompt. Unpacking /boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-19-generic and /boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic (using unmkinitramfs) and performing a diff doesn't appear to yield much, with only one file missing (an RTC driver that was intentionally removed). However, I did notice that the kernel modules were just slightly smaller in the 5.3.0-23 initrd, and that eventually led me to this: $ modinfo '/run/shm/initrd.img-5.3.0-19-generic/main/lib/modules/5.3.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/libahci.ko' filename: /run/shm/initrd.img-5.3.0-19-generic/main/lib/modules/5.3.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/libahci.ko license:GPL description:Common AHCI SATA low-level routines author: Jeff Garzik srcversion: 20FB7D717055C5AA0AF9896 depends: retpoline: Y intree: Y name: libahci vermagic: 5.3.0-19-generic SMP mod_unload signat: PKCS#7 signer: sig_key: sig_hashalgo: md4 parm: skip_host_reset:skip global host reset (0=don't skip, 1=skip) (int) parm: ignore_sss:Ignore staggered spinup flag (0=don't ignore, 1=ignore) (int) parm: ahci_em_messages:AHCI Enclosure Management Message control (0 = off, 1 = on) (bool) parm: devslp_idle_timeout:device sleep idle timeout (int) $ modinfo '/run/shm/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic/main/lib/modules/5.3.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/libahci.ko' filename: /run/shm/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic/main/lib/modules/5.3.0-23-generic/kernel/drivers/ata/libahci.ko license:GPL description:Common AHCI SATA low-level routines author: Jeff Garzik srcversion: EF173B0C134561F058A30A9 depends: retpoline: Y intree: Y name: libahci vermagic: 5.3.0-23-generic SMP mod_unload parm: skip_host_reset:skip global host reset (0=don't skip, 1=skip) (int) parm: ignore_sss:Ignore staggered spinup flag (0=don't ignore, 1=ignore) (int) parm: ahci_em_messages:AHCI Enclosure Management Message control (0 = off, 1 = on) (bool) parm: devslp_idle_timeout:device sleep idle timeout (int) Notice that the output of modinfo for the 5.3.0-19 module contains the following lines (which are missing in the 5.3.0-23 modinfo output): signat: PKCS#7 signer: sig_key: sig_hashalgo: md4 My hypothesis is that the newer kernel modules being unsigned is the root cause behind these boot failures, since I currently have Secure Boot enabled. [Bug 1832101] Re: systemd-networkd: Lost carrier e1000
I might have the same issue, I'm not sure. I have a Ubuntu 19.04 server with an onboard e1000e interface and a usb ax88179_178a interface, routing traffic between the two. The e1000e interface drops a couple of times a day and I see "Detected Hardware Unit Hang" / "Reset adapter unexpectedly" messages in syslog. I don't know what triggers that, there's no significant traffic in my graphs. I can trigger the e1000e to drop reliably, but the trigger doesn't make sense: I can send as much traffic as I want from ax88179_178a through e1000e and vice versa. I can send as much traffic as I want to the server itself from the e1000e. If I send any moderate amount of traffic to the server from the ax88179_178a, then the e1000e drops. For example, apt- get will cause the e1000e to drop. The server is fine, the ax88179_178a is fine, the apt-get or wget or whatever will complete and eventually my TCP session will usually recover after the e1000e resets. If the files are large enough, this may happen several times. It doesn't seem to matter if it's writing to disk or to /dev/null. I have swapped out the switch, the cable, and the USB ethernet interface (both for another ax88179_178a and some other chipset I don't remember.) I have tried kernels from the mainline ppa. I have tried every combination of ethtool knob-twiddling. No luck. The issue first appeared for me after upgrading from 18.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832101 Title: systemd-networkd: Lost carrier e1000 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1832101/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi all, could the package maintainer(s) please take a look at this? This breaks (almost) any WireGuard endpoint configured by systemd- networkd. [Bug 1641290] Re: [04f3:0903] Elan Microelectronics Corp fingerprint reader not recognised
Hello Igor, I have a 0903 and tried your branch that tries to fix its issues, here are some logs : 1) https://pastebin.com/xugAj0db : First try, with the build etc. Unfortunately when I tried to enroll my finger touched the touchpad and put the terminal in background, and I thought that was what made the enroll freeze. 2) https://pastebin.com/UpVh0wXT : I thought first try was a mistake but the script seems to freeze everytime. It freeze automatically, even if I launch the enroll and don't touch the reader, it'll return that 110 error code after 5 seconds. Is this what you call "lock up" ? For your information, before collecting those logs, I tried the img_capture and it "worked" (an image was generated etc), then I tried enroll and got the same error than in the logs (it seems it locked itself between img_capture and enroll). @girisha: if you're OK to have last packages from proposed-updates you may follow instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed to easily test the new package. [Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500
Switching from SNA to UXA downgrade 2D day-to-day performances as SNA is the not-so-new default acceleration method for recent Intel graphics card (as in my case Broadwell HD 5500). More info about performances here : http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=articleitem=intel_2dxorg30_ubuntu1404num=1 For example, at startup, the only icon folder on my desktop is now displayed slowly with UXA rather than SNA. However as Luke #32 said before this is better to have this workaround than missing letters problem, but it's only a workaround, not a real solution. @girisha #35: forget about xf86-video-intel, your xorg.log show you have Intel driver : 3.831] (II) intel(0): Using Kernel Mode Setting driver: i915, version 1.6.0 20080730 [ 3.831] (II) intel(0): SNA compiled: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu4.2 (Maarten Lankhorst maarten.lankho...@ubuntu.com) In any case, try to create the following folder: sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ Then create inside the new folder a file named for example 20-intel.conf with the following content: Section Device Identifier Card0 Driver Intel Option AccelMethod uxa EndSection Then reboot and voila. [Bug 1440539] Re: auto capitalization is capitalizing first two letters insted of one
Hello Michael, thank you for checking that! I didn't check all languages, but I had same problem on English, German and Croatian keyboard. System language is English (US). Problem appeared immediately after flashing, and I flashed 3 times! First time I tried with fresh ubuntu install but was the same, then i tried flashing android and then ubuntu again so after that problem was still there. After all that i tried flashing devel channel but i found it to pretty much buggy so i flashed again to stable and ofc problem with capitalization persisted. Might be that im the only one with problem, but i didn't do anything special, just simple install with: ubuntu-device-flash touch --channel=stable --bootstrap Can i check something else? Maybe some logs or what? I mean if there could be something interesting or specific.. [Bug 1319207] [NEW] Contextual menu keyboard button can create important display bugs in almost all ubuntu applications
Public bug reported: Most applications handle a right click event, and react to that by providing a contextual menu. They usually handle a second right click by making the menu disappear. Moreover, some keyboards provide a 'contextual menu' key, which acts as a right click. However, when you press this key a second time on many ubuntu applications (unity, file manager, gedit, just to name of few, but it's probably an underlying problem), the first contextual menu doesn't disappear, and instead a new one appear, which has the very nasty side effect of filling the screen with contextual menus if the key accidentally gets pressed too long - and sometimes with no other solution than to quit the application to make them all disappear. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319207 Title: Contextual menu keyboard button can create important display bugs in almost all ubuntu applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1319207/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1309964] [NEW] Setting the preference to move window control to the right no longer works
Public bug reported: On earlier versions of ubuntu, either [gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout menu:minimize, maximize, close] or [gconftool -s /apps/metacity/general/button_layout -t string menu:minimize, maximize, close] enabled to change the window control to the right. Now, in Trusty (14.04) even the unity-tweak-tool, which still enables this option, isn't able to achieve the wanted result. This is probably due to the new unity decorations. The user should still have the opportunity to choose this setting (let the user choose, whenever there are differences about user experience preferences), if only because the XP support just ended and all these new users don't want to have that much of a user experience difference when going to Trusty (don't make the same mistake windows 8 did, thinking users will adapt to UI changes - letting the user choose in such cases is always the best option). [Bug 1199785] [NEW] update-manager puts cpu usage to 100%. Overheating laptop (lenovo x201)
Public bug reported: Since a few weeks update-manager seems to get stuck during the update process and overheating my laptop. The update window shows me the message downloading from de.archive.ubuntu.com and the bar is full. My cpu is running at 100% on all cores. The gnome system monitor shows me only 25% usage, but that cant be true because the fan is running on full speed. The systems monitor seems to be stuck too. Likely due to the high cpu usage of the update manager. Once I quit the update process the cpu usage for the process jumps up to 100% for a second before it is gone from the list. I have to shut down the process manually before emergency shutdown (goes way beyond 80 degrees celcius) Once I force update-manager to shut down my temps go down again and the fan slows down too. Everything is back to normal. The odd thing is when using synaptic to update my packages everything is fine. I started having this problem a while back, but then after the update worked once I thought it was gone. Public bug reported: Hi, I have an NFS share to which I am attempting to copy files.
