2012-09-04 Thread John Martin
Public bug reported:

On continuous play albums there is a noticable discontinuity between tracks.
I assume that this is a fault of the player as it did not happen with either
windows media player or iTunes in windows 7.
If something can be done please inform me, otherwise this is information for
the developer/s.

[Bug 888885] [NEW] gwibber-poster disappears when right clicked or when ctrl+V is pressed to paste text

2011-11-10 Thread John Martin
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10
Installed: 3.2.1-0ubuntu1.2
Candidate: 3.2.1-0ubuntu1.2
Version table:
 *** 3.2.1-0ubuntu1.2 0

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1 0

I expect that when opened from the messaging indicator menu that
gwibber-poster will allow a link or other text to be pasted into the
dialog in order to post it to the specified services.

Instead, gwibber-poster simply disappears. At the point when ctrl is
pressed or the mouse is right-clicked over the text-entry space, the
dialog closes. I ran it from the terminal as well and the same thing
occurs.

When running gwibber-poster in terminal it gives:

I am having this problem as well with 046d:08d8 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam

lines on occasion and some other distortion. It only occurs when using
gstreamer (Cheese) and with Skype. VLC works just fine.

[Bug 882817] Re: shutdown screen stuck after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-01 Thread John Martin
I use a USB mobile internet modem and this issue occurs whether or not
it has been plugged in and active at some point during my session, so I
do not think that it is modem-manager causing this. I can restart if I
have not logged in without a hang, but if logged in, whether network-
manager has been stopped or not, I have a hang at shutdown and have to
shutdown by holding the power button. This has occurred since upgrade to
11.10 via normal upgrade procedures.

I have this presently with an Inspiron 1525 with Intel Pro Wireless 4965

helps.

[Bug 416980] Re: clock not changed for end of DST in Egypt

2009-08-22 Thread John Martin
I found the line (#280) in the source that contains the problem:

Rule Egypt 2009only-Sep lastThu 23:00s 0
-

This should be changed to:

RuleEgypt 2009only- Aug 20 23:00s 0
-
Rule Egypt 2010 max -SeplastThu 23:00s
0 -

The above two lines reflect the actual end of daylight savings this year
and the probable end next year. Egypt changed the end of DST this year
to happen just before the beginning of the Islamic Hijri month of
Ramadan, which this year began on Saturday 22 August, the time shift
occurred at midnight on Thursday 20/Friday 21 August and changed the
clock back one hour to 23:00 Thursday 20 August. Next year the
government will likely revert to their standard shift date which is at
the end of September.

I can confirm that this is the case. The output from "date" reads:

Sat Aug 22 11:31:48 EEST 2009

The time is actually 10:31:48 presently but the timezone is correctly
indicated here as EEST.

This is also a bug problem in Debian Lenny/Stable, FYI.

SV: [Bug 314340] Re: Firefox crashes after update 20090106.

2009-05-17 Thread John Martin
Thank you, the bug seem to be gone. I am 100% sure, but I think there was
another update a few days after my report (that might have been an update to
fglrx). After that update, everything was gone.

I also had another problem fixed regarding the Citrix Client. Citrix
released a new version. That really made my day. If we can keep this level
of stability, then I can remove the last MS Windows solution in a few weeks.

[Bug 373774] Re: weather details tooltip does not work in clock applet 9.04 64-bit

2009-05-17 Thread John Martin
I can confirm that deselecting "Show Seconds" under the "General" tab
for the clock applet brings back the tooltip for both the weather icon
and the time (to show the date) when on the panel and expanded (after
clicking the applet to show the calendar and locations). This behavior
changes immediately after changing the option without restarting the
session.

[Bug 156541] Re: switching compiz viewports causes citrix ica client to be lost

2008-10-03 Thread John Martin
Having the same problem. ICA crash with this message:
The X Request 12.0 caused
error: "2 : BadValue (Integer parameter out of range for operation)".

System:
Dell Optiplex 320 with ATI Radeon (the most crappy piece of hardware I ever
had).
Ubuntu 8.04
Citrix ICA for Linux 10.06.115659
Libmotif3 2.2.3-2.

I disabled the "Visual Effects" with success regarding the message and
crash. The window resize problem, is still there under certain
circumstances.

If I first resize the window using the panel bar, then the resize
problem occur if I use the window button next time.

If I use the panel bar to set the window back to first state, then the
problem is gone next time I use the window buttons.

[Bug 14135] Re: Grub Install Failure

2008-04-18 Thread John Martin
Following up on my last post, I was able to manually install GRUB and
uninstall LILO with no ill-effect on the above-mentioned configuration.
So, the problem isn't in the setup or with GRUB, but something going on
during the install, at least in this case.

Where do logs from installs end up? It might be worth checking those.

[Bug 14135] Re: Grub Install Failure

2008-04-18 Thread John Martin
1 250GB SATA drive. Installing Ubuntu 8.04 Beta Alternate 64bit with
drive formatted using encrypted LVM. Installation crash (red screen box
warning), GRUB would not install. Installed LILO instead.

This might be a serious problem for any user not realizing that they
have an option of installing a different bootloader. I would prefer GRUB
anyway, but the system starts just fine using LILO. I concur with one
previous post that having an installation crash when it is nearly
complete is quite a deterrent.

Maybe the problem is with the setup though, I am not sure. I need to
attempt to manually install GRUB and if that fails then there is
obviously another problem.
