Yes, fglrx has problems with the new Juanty installation. You may need
to switch to -ati. If you do, please come back and let us know if this
has resolved your issue.

[Bug 349361] Re: users-admin tool fails to authenticate if you wait more than a few seconds to type your password

2009-03-26 Thread JonCharge
I was able to reproduce the steps above with a similar result. I took
10 seconds on each password entry attempt. The first two simply did not
take, with no error message. The third attempt produced the error
message.

** Summary changed:

- users-admin tool fails to authenticate if you wait more than a few seconds to
type your password
+ Users and Groups tool fails to authenticate.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
+
+
+ The "Users and Groups" tools fails to authenticate if the password is not
entered quickly. The tool is located at SYSTEM -> ADMINISTRATION -> Users and
Groups

choose the users and groups administration tool from the settings.
click unlock. An authenticate window will come up.
Don't type anything, just wait a few seconds. (About 8 seconds for me. If you
type your password fast, the bug won't happen.)
An error message window will appear under the authenticate window: "Could not
authenticate, An unexpected error has occurred."

The program now will not work properly (won't authenticate any user, so
far as I can tell), unless you shut it down and try again.

  ---
If you then do finish entering your password in the authenticate window, and
close the error dialog, the program will not have authenticated you. Now
clicking the unlock button anew just puts up the "Could not authenticate"
dialog straight away, without running an authenticate window. You have to shut
the program down and try it again.

To get it to work, try running it again and just type your password fast.

[Bug 349367] [NEW] Mounse pointer render artifacts (renders incorrectly)

2009-03-26 Thread JonCharge
Public bug reported:

I am not sure what package this affects. Soon, I'll get better at
selecting packages.

The mouse pointer sometimes will not render correctly, and has an artifact
either right next to it, or part of the pointer itself is incorrect. I use an
ATI card, with the open source driver. Dual monitor configuration. If you
require more information, I'm subscribed to this bug and will provide as much
as I can. I am using Jaunty Beta.

j...@central:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

Thank you.

Jon

Also, I tried to get a screen grab to illustrate better, however, the
pointer is rendered correctly in the grab, so that was pointless (the
screen grab for illustration that is).

In your description you mention the desktop icon duplicating, you also
mention not being able to find the icon. Could you clarify on this?
Also, what file manager do you use? Is hotplug also running?

Start the boot image without the -splash option. This is a feature I
believe. Should be able to edit the grub options... also check the boot
log.

[Bug 303637] Re: Ability to kill gnome-screensaver makes it easy to defeat the lock screen dialog

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 89261 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/89261

On Ubuntu 8.10 Gnome 2.24.1 I can't confirm. My steps:

Lock screen --> Switch to TTY1 --> Kill gnome screen saver.

The process goes away.

-->Switch to TTY7 (Gnome)

The screen saver lock appears to respawn a new process. I was unable to
bypass it using the method above.

Correction to above: Using "KILLALL" I was able to bypass the lock.

This may not however, be a security vulnerability or a bug actually. Security
education opportunity. Log off TTY's when done is good practice. This may
need to be included in the docs, as far as what is actually secure and what is
not.
