[Bug 1860257] [NEW] during dist-upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04, virtuoso-nepomuk blocked initscripts from installing

2020-01-18 Thread Joni Nevalainen
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
Release:16.04

While running distribution upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04, the terminal
reported too many errors during upgrade and your system may be in an
unusable state.

Took a look here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtuoso-opensource/+bug/1542453

With fix suggestion:
I removed /etc/init.d/virtuoso-nepomuk
then
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get purge virtuoso-nepomuk
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get upgrade

- Found errored packages by running dpkg --configure -a

Nothing, curious..

apt-cache search wayland
apt-cache showpkg xwayland
apt-cache showpkg grub

- Rebooted, system logged in succesfully. Complained about some crash
errors, so here is one of them reported.

[Bug 519583] Re: can't add, move, unlock applets no clock

2011-06-04 Thread Joni Nevalainen
Thanks to denham2010's excellent tip at this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1515732

I managed to edit Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 panel without switching to
Gnome.

The file to edit is here:
/var/lib/gconf/une.mandatory/%gconf-tree.xml

Here are my changes which got system monitor in the panel:
neva@neva-aone:/var/lib/gconf/une.mandatory$ diff %gconf-tree.xml
gconf-tree.xml.original

Screen shot of the new UNR session:
http://arcadia.anime.fi/~n/aspireone/UNR/UNR-sysmon-added.png

Simple way to start with the terminal:
cd /var/lib/gconf/une.mandatory/
sudo cp %gconf-tree.xml gconf-tree.xml.original
sudo wget http://arcadia.anime.fi/~n/aspireone/UNR/%25gconf-tree.xml

Logout and login.
Right click on the new thin line in the top bar, choose preferences and adjust
system monitor width to get it to draw correctly.

[Bug 42571] Re: eog won't delete images on different volume

2011-02-21 Thread Joni Nevalainen
Ran across the issue in lucid 10.04. Could not delete a picture from a
different partition in the same harddrive (NTFS-formatted). The drive is
mounted so that my user account has read/write access to it.

Workaround: Made a .Trash-1000 folder manually to the partition root
directory (my UID is 1000). Now the error message changed to a warning
message, but I could delete the picture. The warning message is: A
wastebasket for (IMGNAME) couldn't be found. Do you want to remove this
image permanently?

The bug could still use patching, since by the original error messages
Are you sure you want to move (IMGNAME) to the Deleted Items folder?
and Error on deleting image (IMGNAME) - Couldn't access Deleted Items
folder. aren't too informative in creating the workaround folder to
say, an external SD-stick while browsing newly taken pictures.
