2021-03-03 Thread Jose Mico
I have the same problem on a desktop with kernel 5.8.0-44-generic and
Intel HD Graphics (Celeron G1840). The system boots normally, but GUI
freezes after clicking on any icon (only the GUI crashes, you can still
access the system by ssh).

2015-09-06 Thread Jose Mico
Florian, It was already fixed long ago in 14.04, but you need to enable
it manually:

- Open chrome://settings/
- Go to "Show advanced settings..." -> "System" -> "Use hardware acceleration
when available"
- Restart chrome
- Check chrome://gpu/

[Bug 1463598] Re: Chromium 43 fails to use hardware acceleration

2015-07-20 Thread Jose Mico
Thanks Emmeran for pointing this!

chromium-browser 43.0.2357.130 (released a week ago) has been fixed.

Still, for distros older than 15.10, GPU acceleration remains off by
default. To enable GPU acceleration again:

- Open chrome://settings/
- Go to Show advanced settings... - System - Use hardware acceleration
when available
- Restart chrome
- Check chrome://gpu/

Thanks Chad!

[Bug 909871] Re: install failure b43 12.04 Precise Pangolin

2012-02-13 Thread Jose Mico
Booting from liveCD or fresh install using alternate CD hangs with
error:

b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file b43/ucode5.fw not found
b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file b43-open/ucode5.fw not found
b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the
correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefull read all instructions
on this website.

So currently is not possible to install 12.04 on systems with Broadcom
wireless (without blacklisting b43).

If you manage to blacklist b43, then install firmware-b43-installer and
problem is fixed.

[Bug 438136] Re: palimpsest bad sectors false positive

2009-11-02 Thread Jose Mico
I really have several reallocated sectors in my disk, maybe due to a hit
or something. But the point is that the disk is working fine, I've have
no data loss, and the number of reallocated sectors is not increasing.
The bug is just the warning about inminent failure... I don't think
that the disk will fail in the next months (and the manufacturer
neither). We'll see...
