[Bug 1255631] Re: PlayOnLinux requires curl even though it isn't a dependancy

2014-08-14 Thread Josh Black
gollo (sean-gollschewsky)
"Josh's comment is unhelpful and IMHO against the entire ethos of Ubuntu."

It is not something that we packages, and to be honest, I was under the
impression that it was from our site. I apologize for that.

mulx - yes, I see that now. I never install from repos, so this is not
something that I had seen. To be honest, I did not know that curl was
not a standard lib in Ubuntu and its flavours.

Ads2
"As I said before, people don't like having to do things manually, it's why
they go back to Windows. If we can make things more automated and easy then
people are more likely to stay. Stop pushing people away."

Dude, calm down. You really are making the argument that installing curl
from a point-and-click interface is going to immediately push them to
ANY OS in general? I am not pushing people away. I made a mistake. So
chill out.

As for it going against the "ethos of Ubuntu", this particular incident
was from the packager not including the dependencies that are already in
the vanilla POL debs from our repo. Why? I have no clue. It seems silly
to me that dependencies for things in our builds we be deemed
unnecessary in the minds of Ubuntu packagers. I have been getting emails
about this issue for months. Actually, almost a year. And the packages
have not fixed the dependency issue, even though it is almost a year old
now.

The Ubuntu packagers need to fix this bug, as it is apparent what it is needed:
curl
p7zip-full

Ads2 - In my opinion, the only people pushing anyone away are the
people pushing debs with broken/missing dependencies to the Ubuntu main
repo. This should be a very simple issue to fix for them, but it is the
packagers issue.

So, now that we have all of that settled. is anyone going to
repackage it for Ubuntu's repos? haha. I mean, that is the whole reason
for this thread, and this should literally be a 10 minute fix, if that.
Let's get it fixed, and for good, and move on.

[Bug 1317028] Re: Installing Playonlinux removes thousands of packages

2014-05-07 Thread Josh Black
The only reason this happens is when you have conflicting lists of
packages in multiple repositories. This is usually caused by using PPA's
with conflicting packages, and from what I can see, you have a bunch of
PPA's installed, and packages dependent on each other must be fighting
for dependencies and versions of those specific packages. They are
commented out, sure, but I think that however you have been managing
packages is messing things up. From the screenshot you posted, your
problem is likely with the xorg-edgers PPA, as you have it commented
out, it can no longer see those versions of those packages, and
therefore needs to uninstall them. This is not a PlayOnLinux issue, as
no one is reporting this. This is specific to your package manager, as
it is broken from package conflicts. It is not a bug. Please remove all
PPA's, downgrade your packages, and try to install PlayOnLinux again.

[Bug 1315651] Re: playonlinux-bash missing in packages since raring

2014-05-05 Thread Josh Black
As stated previously on playonlinux.com's forum:

playonlinux-bash is still part of PlayOnLinux/PlayOnMac, we're not
responsible for third party packaging

It is still there. It is actually a part of the program itself. It NEEDS
to be there. I have been getting nonsensical emails about this from
Ubuntu's bug reporting system. If it is broken in Ubuntu (which it is
not, because I installed 4.2.2 directly from Ubuntu's repo's), then it
is an Ubuntu issue, not a POL issue. We cannot help it a third part
breaks POL in their repo. Although, I do not see how they could miss it.

I mean, it seems more likely that your install broke during
installation.

Why dont you just download it directly from our download section? I
mean, your bug seems to only affect you, and it is for sure not a repo
issue, nor a POL issue.

Try to download the .deb file here:
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html

[Bug 1310757] Re: playonlinux Ubuntu freezer

2014-04-21 Thread Josh Black
This is actually related to Wine, but really, this should be posted on
the PlayOnLinux forums. Please go to playonlinux.com, create an account,
and report your issue there. Wine is a very picky thing, and not always
perfect. Regardless of which, this is not an Ubuntu issue at all.

Marking this package as invalid, as the user needs to report the issue
on PlayOnLinux's forums, according to the rules and stickies. Please
make sure that you read all rules regarding reporting bugs or posting
problems in the forums, as if you do not follow procedure, we are unable
to tell what is wrong.

Thanks.

[Bug 1219684] Re: Depency of Curl and 7z is missing for PlayOnLinux

2013-11-11 Thread Josh Black
Current dev release has that already (if I am not mistaken), but has not
been released as stable, as of yet. Will update after I check it. If I
am incorrect in that being fixed in the current dev version, Ill make
sure its added as a fix to the next stable release. Again, I can see at
least Saucy has the current stable, which is good. It does alert about
the missing deps, but Im sure the head devs left it out originally for
some reason. I will update when I have more info.

[Bug 1219684] Re: Depency of Curl and 7z is missing for PlayOnLinux

2013-11-11 Thread Josh Black
This is NOT A BUG. We (The PlayOnLinux Team) have stated previously that
whatever bugs are being reported here have been corrected. The version
in ALL of Ubuntu's repositories (as far as I can see) is SUPER old. The
current STABLE version that is recommended for use is PlayOnLinux 4.2.1.
This is NOT available through the default repositories, but is readily
available from www.playonlinux.com

Please add PlayOnLinux version 4.2.1 to the Official Repositories, so
that people can use that one. Filing bug reports for an old version of
our software is counter-productive.

Obviously, if it pops up and says that you are missing a dependency,
then that is the problem. It states that you need curl and 7zip. This is
far from a bug; its a dependency. Very easy to fix. Simply:

sudo apt-get install curl p7zip-full

will fix the "error" that is being seen.

If people want to see updates in the software, then the Ubuntu repo
admins need to bring the version of POL in their repo to the current
version, or simply install POL 4.2.1 from playonlinux.com. If Ubuntu
will not update their repo with our current version, then you will need
to update it via our site, otherwise, we cannot do anything about it.
Hopefully the current version will be pushed into Ubuntu's repository.
Im not sure why it has not been moved into their repo yet, anyway. But,
it is what it is.

[Bug 1219684] Re: Depency of Curl and 7z is missing for PlayOnLinux

2013-11-11 Thread Josh Black
I stand corrected;

Saucy has 4.2.1 in their repo:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/playonlinux

If it says that you need to install curl and p7zip, simply install them,
and the errors will not be there. Its quite trivial. Simply install, and
use as usual. If you are missing a dependency, it will say, so just
install the dep, and continue about your day. :D

This is not a bug. If you installed from the Ubuntu repos, that version
is SUPER out of date. Download 4.2.1 from playonlinux.com.

I have been trying to get Ubuntu to update their repos, but they have
not done so. This is not a bug. You simply need to install those
dependencies.

[Bug 1160210] Re: Missing dependencies on xterm and 7z

2013-08-10 Thread Josh Black
This should not be confirmed. This is a VERY VERY old version of POL.
You need to get the newest package, which is 4.2.1

This bug report should be closed. Original poster of this bug is not
even using the newest version, which should be downloaded from
playonlinux.com.

There is currently a bug report open to get Ubuntu's repo updated with
the newest version, so that this doesnt happen.

If you guys want this bug fixed in Ubuntu, you have to either update
Ubuntu's official repository with PlayOnLinux 4.2.1, or download it
directly from us.

Again, this is NOT a bug. You are out of date with your installation.

[Bug 1203877] Re: Backport PPA for PlayOnLinux

2013-07-22 Thread Josh Black
***

"playonlinux" versions published in Ubuntu

Saucy (4.2.1-1): multiverse/otherosfs
Raring (4.1.1-1): multiverse/otherosfs
Quantal (4.1.1-1): multiverse/otherosfs
Precise (4.0.14-1): multiverse/otherosfs
Lucid (3.7.3-1): multiverse/otherosfs

Lol. So, I can understand Sauncy running an experimental version of POL,
but all of the others work fine with the current stable version, and
upgrading to the current stable will do nothing to hurt their currently
set up wine prefixes, so thats a plus, as well.

I can post the changelog. Its too much to mention.

As you can see, its quite a lot.

Really, having this stable version would be great in the repos. I dont
think its been up to date since I started using linux quite a few years
ago. haha

4.2.1
When removing shortcuts or virtual drives from the Configure window, make sure
desktop icons, menu entries, etc. are also removed.
fix Python's VersionLower (infinite source of bugs)
Update © in about box LP: #1160801
Fix a huge problem in bug reporting I introduced in 4.2... I thought it tested
it well, this is depressing. Without testers, without users testing beta
versions, it seems there's no way to get bugfree releases.
(experimental) enable display of beta scripts by default, differenciate them in
lists using a reddish background
4.2
Huge icons download speedup by reusing a single HTTP connection
Make sure debug mode is disabled when using playonlinux --run; Debug may still
be used in playonlinux-bash though
Make sure entered prefix name contains no space or slash during manual
installations
POL_System_wget: make sure the pipelined wget exitcode is not masked by grep's
one
POL_System_wget: interpret wget exitcodes
genere_icone(): pick the right icon instead of Wine generic one (reported by
Simon/excalibr on IRC) (#1815)
(experimental) WINEDEBUG prefix setting, modify the amount of logging when
debugging is enabled. I'm not sure of the right scope, should it be
per-shortcut, like the old "enable debugging" flag, or even global?
POL_SetupWindow_shortcut_creator: use executable name as default shortcut name
sort shortcuts case insensitively in main window so that lowercase doesn't end
up at the bottom
bug report: insert basic questions to answer in the bug report
add "Report a problem" in shortcut-related actions in the side panel
do not ask for confirmation to close PlayOnLinux if there's no program started
do not suggest bug reporting if a script has been canceled by the user because
a prefix already existed
virtual drive removal should now overpass bad directory rights (caused by WMP9
for example) (#1732)
POL_System_HomeSpaceLeft fix for df multiline output (#1890)
added POL_System_UserRootSpaceLeft, in case ~/.PlayOnLinux is a symlink or a
mount
use POL_System_UserRootSpaceLeft in POL_System_EnoughSpace
if exists, look for mounted devices in /media/$USER/ directory (Ubuntu Quantal,
#1893)
manual_install: don't call POL_Wine_PrefixCreate on patch installation
irc: only warn about closing window when connected
Debug log all user inputs (POL_SetupWindow_textbox, etc.)
mainwindow.py: try to handle EINTR while reading from pol_update_list pipe
(#1687)
DeletePrefix: if root is actually a symlink, just delete the symlink
gui_server.py: try to handle EINTR while accepting socket connections (#1687)
Fix typo (#1932)
POL_SetupWindow_download: accept a directory or a filename as 4th parameter
POL_Download: accept URLs with "query strings", that get included in local
filename
(experimental) if missing, look for resources in winetricks cache before
attempting download (#1963)
Add POL_Wine_DelOverrideDLL, POL_Wine_DelAppOverrideDLL (#1989)
POL_Wine_OverrideDLL and POL_Wine_AppOverrideDLL cleanups
Support creation of desktop menu entries (#1943). POL_Shortcut needs an extra
parameter, categories, for the entry to be created. And similarly to
NO_DESKTOP_ICON setting, a NO_MENU_ICON can be set to TRUE to prevent desktop
menu entries from being created.
4.1.9
POL_System_is32bit
Improved package menu
Added : POL_Download_GetSize, POL_System_HomeSpaceLeft
Fixed bug : #1446

[Bug 1203532] [NEW] Update PlayOnLinux to latest stable version - 4.2.1

2013-07-21 Thread Josh Black
Public bug reported:

The current version in the Ubuntu repositories is painfully out of date,
and we now have a new release (4.2.1) that is stable and works much
better than the one in the Ubuntu repo's. The packages can be had at
playonlinux.com for all architectures.

This should be updated for 11.10, 12.04, 12.10, and 13.04, as it works
on all of them.

Version in software center is ~4.1.1, newest is 4.2.1.

Re: [Bug 84762] Re: Feisty: usb mouse stops working

2007-09-07 Thread Josh Black
Unfortunately, disabling autosuspend doesn't seem to fix the problem with
the mouse on the live CD. It still freezes after a random amount of time.

I would you suggest you try:

sudo sh -c "echo 0 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend"

That way the whole command is run as root instead of just "echo 0".

2007-09-06 Thread Josh Black
How would you suggest I do this using the Live CD? I can't open the file w/
Gedit, and when I try the following command, I'm getting "Permission Denied"
messages:

sudo echo 0 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend

I also tried

sudo echo -1 > /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend

Josh Black - could you try disabling autosuspend for usb devices by
changing the value of '/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend' from
2 to 0? This will only work on Gutsy and you should be able to change
this while running the Live CD. Thanks in advance.
