[Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones (needs update to libmtp)

2012-11-21 Thread Juan C Nuno
http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/247-ubuntu-automount-nexus7-mtp says
that PTP works in Ubuntu 12.04. Doesn't for me. When I plug my 4.2
Galaxy Nexus into my 12.04 MacBook Pro and try to drag a picture from
Nautilus to the desktop, I get an error

Error while copying IMG_20120704_215542.jpg.
There was an error copying the file into /home/juancnuno/Desktop.
Error getting file: -6: Not Supported

This bug is pretty annoying. :/

@karthikjain Which version of Ubuntu are you using? I haven't been able
to get even PTP working on Precise.

[Bug 774089] Re: Booting fails 3 times, works every fourth time after new install of Natty Narwhal amd64 on Macbook Pro

2011-05-23 Thread Juan C Nuno
I agree with the above posters. This is a _very_ serious bug that kills
MacBooks. This needs to be listed in the release notes.

Mine is still dead. It will not boot. I've installed OS X on an external
USB drive but bless doesn't seem to work from there.

sudo bless -mount / -firmware MBP53_00AC_03B_LOCKED.scap

WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type man sudo for more information.

To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

/Volumes/bless.gS66//EFI/APPLE/FIRMWARE/MBP53_00AC_03B_LOCKED.scap

I tried making a firmware recovery CD. That hasn't worked for me either.

After I get my MacBook back, I will seriously consider giving up on
Linux. This hassle is not worth it.

[Bug 774089] Re: Booting fails 3 times, works every fourth time after new install of Natty Narwhal amd64 on Macbook Pro

2011-05-01 Thread Juan C Nuno
My problem is similar to this one. I tried fresh installing Ubuntu 11.04
over 10.10 on my MacBook Pro 5,4 with the ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso
image. Only it never boots successfully. On every fourth (or so) time, I
get an invalid arch independent ELF magic error. It looks like the fix
for this is to get to a bash prompt upon successful boot and reflash the
EFI firmware with this bless command. But how am I supposed to do that
when I can never get a bash prompt?

[Bug 774089] Re: Booting fails 3 times, works every fourth time after new install of Natty Narwhal amd64 on Macbook Pro

2011-05-01 Thread Juan C Nuno
That wasn't clear to me, thank you.

I usually run only Ubuntu on my MacBook. I still have the OS X DVD lying
around. I will try installing that, doing that bless thing, and an
Ubuntu reinstall. Using the same image I used before.

Is there a specific Mac Ubuntu image I should be using instead?

I ended up installing OS X on an external USB drive. Only reflashing the
firmware doesn't seem to be working. :(

[Bug 668925] Re: Removing a Contact in Empathy Deletes It from the Gmail Contact Manager

2010-10-31 Thread Juan C Nuno
Did you try it?

I use the Gmail Contact Manager to organize my contacts. Set one up with
a Google Talk username and some other miscellaneous information, their
birthday for example.

Set up Empathy with a Google Talk account tied to that contact. If you
remove the contact from the Empathy list, it deletes the contact from
Gmail. Including the birthday. Pidgin does not do the same thing.

I'm sad to see this bug closed. As long as this is an issue I cannot use
Empathy, nor recommend it to anyone else.

[Bug 668925] [NEW] Removing a Contact in Empathy Deletes It from the Gmail Contact Manager

2010-10-30 Thread Juan C Nuno
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I removed a Google Talk contact from Empathy. And I found out that it
was deleted entirely from the Gmail Contact Manager. My intent was for
them to not show up in the Empathy contact list, not to delete their
phone number, mailing address, and who knows what else from Gmail. Data
was lost. I'm very sure Pidgin does the right thing in this case.

In every release since Empathy became the default IM client, I keep
giving it a shot and I keep finding it's not ready for prime time. It's
again the case in Maverick. I'm going back to Pidgin.
