[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise

2021-06-04 Thread K Dietrich
Thanks to all you guys for the description of the problem and the
suggested fix by changing the boot flag of the preexisting efi
partition. I spent quite some timee trying to fix this, since I thought
i might have done something wrong.

If I understand the problem correctly, Ubuntu has a bug for mor than 6
years, which breaks the system when a user wants two efi partitions to
use dual boot with Windows. This would be the only installation method
that would not be hampered with interferences by windows updates. And
it is a problem which does not occur with Debian, on which ubuntu is
based on.

This raises the question for me if repairing the ubuntu installation is
the right choice for me. I just want an easy to use system without too
much digging. I really have to think about whether I want to apply this
workaround.

It also makes me a little less furious that Microsoft decided to just
revert any changes on *their* efi partition during updates, when they
notice tempering from other OS, since *other* OS might be a little bit
careless by risking harm not only for their own installation but also
for Windows.

[Bug 606608] Re: Screen goes to powersave during boot with ATI HD5670

2010-12-24 Thread K Dietrich
With the updates the problem CHANGED.
After updating the system and reinstalling fglrx, the screen still goes to
powersave.
The Error in xorg.0.log disappeared. I guess, we made some progress.
 I attached the current logfile.

Merry Christmas,

[Bug 606608] [NEW] Screen goes to powersave during boot with ATI HD5670

2010-07-17 Thread K Dietrich
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 10.4 (AMD 64)
(with alternate installer to avoid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560306)

I installed all the updates after booting with recovery option. Screen
goes tho powersave after reboot.

Then I installted fglrx and did aticonfig --initial -f

Afterwards the system still goes to powersave during boot.

My previous Install worked till upgrade to vmlinuz-2.6.32-23-generic when I
experienced similar problems.
For ech restart the system writes 6 different Xorg logfiles (Xorg0-5.log and
Xorg.failsave.log)

I have two graphics adapter attached: Internal ATI HD 3200 (which can't
be disabled) and ATI HD 5670)

Attached are
Xorg0.log ... Xorg5.log
Xorg.failsave.log

[Bug 600351] Re: no graphic with hd 5670 Graphic Card

2010-07-04 Thread K Dietrich
I was able to fix my system using the repair console of the alternate
installer disk.

after opening the console on the linux partition I did

apt-get install fglrx
aticonfig --initial -f

afterwards I was able to boot.
I believe this is not the perfect way. I got some dev packages installed with
apt-get install fglrx
Acceleration was not running.
The GUI for Installing proprietary drivers diid not show the fglrx as
installed. It did allow to install the fglrx. After booting acceleration worked.

Attached is the Xorg.0.log file for all three sges.

[Bug 600351] [NEW] no graphic with hd 5670 Graphic Card

2010-06-30 Thread K Dietrich
Public bug reported:

When I upgraded my system with a Saphier HD 5670 graphic card, the
Monitor goes in powersave mode during boot. I assume this happens when
the system switches to graphics mode.

Maybe this is related to my motherboard ASRock A780 Full HD with HD 3200
onboard graphic which can't be diisabled.
The output of the internal graphic is off too.

The Problems occurs both wiht Onboard Graphics AND with PCIE Graphic set
as primary Adapter.

I tried a clean re-Install of Kubuntu 10.04 386. The CD has the same problem
when booting from it.
Install by alternate Installer is possible, but after first boot from Diisk,
the same problem occurs.

The System iis not frozen, pushing the power button when screen is off
performs a graceful shut down.

klog says:

Systemsettings can be used by different account.

Therefore the problem seems to be induced by some usersettings.

This shouldn't happen after an update though.

After updating kubuntu (amd64) fromm 8.04 to 8.10 using the online update,
some Icons are missing/wrong.
This Problem only occurs under the main account, which was used to perform the

[Bug 288885] [NEW] menu.lst not updated with update to intrepid

2008-10-24 Thread K Dietrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept-manager

Online Update to Kubuntu 8.10 (AMD64) did not adjust file
/boot/grub/menu.lst. After the update, only the old kernel entries were
available. Entry still mentions the old Version 8.04:

title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-21-generic
root(hd0,3)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-21-generic
root=UUID=bbb7c634-4686-405b-9477-ab85a0a62b6a ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-21-generic
quiet

I did expect a new enty like
title Ubuntu 8.10. kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
...

The file menu.lst was manually edited before the update. (deletion of old
kernels)
Previous kernel updates komplained about this but still worked.

[Bug 213546] Re: SIGSEGV in gnibbles

2008-09-28 Thread K Dietrich
I assume the reason for this problem is some kind of unfortunate
userspecific settings (kde settings?), since the problem only occurs
under one user account. The problem still ocurs with all current updates
installed.

I expect a clean re-installation to solve the problem.

[Bug 117060] [kubuntu gutsy] keyboard volume control malfunction _after Motherboard upgrade_

2008-01-02 Thread K Dietrich
I have the same problem with a Logitech Access Keyboard. The keys for volume
up / volume down show 11 / 0 on the OSD but don't change the volume.
Volume control by kmixer still works fine.
The Mute Key on the keyboard works fine too.

The problem occured after an upgrade of the motherboard on Kubuntu 7.10.
The new board supports HD Audio (HDA NVidia) but only stereo speakers are
connected.

If you could use further information, don't hesitates to ask.
