[Bug 1031979] [NEW] 12.04 updater fails to work after latest update and install
Public bug reported: v.12.04 LTS Can't access software center, nor can I update. See error message from updater: An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu .com_ubuntu_dists_precise_restricted_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' After the latest (Aug 1, 2012) 230MB + download and installation of updates, including the latest kernel updates, etc, I can no longer update or even access the Ubuntu software center. I've had no problems with 12.04 LTS up until today's software updates. From what I have determined, it is caused by thread locking, and gvfs-fuse-daemon. The way to make it happen seems to be to use my computer for a while, and then sooner or later, a program freezes. When it does, if I open system monitor, it will show the waiting signal for the frozen program to be futex_wait, and will show the waiting signal for gvfs-fuse-daemon to be futex_wait. I've tried to find information about futexes, but the web is pretty quiet on the matter. This bug seems similar to bug 303190, but I think it's different. The only solution I have found to this bug is to kill the application that is frozen. This has happened to: - gnome-panel - gnome-do - firefox - eclipse - python - getty (I think) - and a few others Every now and then my computer freezes, and I think this is the culprit because if this happened to a process like gdm, it would cause me to be unable to figure out the waiting channel. Also, I'm not sure if this helps, but I installed with the encrypted drive option via the alternate installer. If there is anything I can do to provide a less subjective bug report, I'd love to help, but I've little idea where to go from here so this can be confirmed. [Bug 120796] linux-image-2.6.22-6 doesn't boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-6-generic gutsy 7.10, everyday fresh updates. now using linux-image-2.6.20-15 and it works well. my system: Core2Duo E6600/4Gb RAM OCZ/ ASUS Striker Extreme(nforce680i based)/3Ware 9590SE/ 4x750 and 1x300 Seagate SATAII HDDs - all hdd on 3ware controller, including boot drive/ Onboard LAN(nforce)/Nvidia 8800GTX . With 2.6.22-6 system boots before (second stage), after this - while pressing key num lock the led of this key flash with big latency and latency is grow up while system stop respond and no reactions with ctrl+alt+SysRq+b.
