[Bug 433205] [NEW] volume silder interacts weirdly with pulse per app volume control

2009-09-19 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

when I click on rhythmbox's volume slider button, the volume always
reset to 0. If I then drag the slider, a very small movement causes
pulseaudio's per-app volume slider for rhythmbox to jump up, shocking me
with very loud music.

if I drag the per-app volume slider left, application is muted before

2009-03-31 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung

I can reproduce this. The workaround is removing the package first and
then reinstall it.

[Bug 349377] [NEW] rs780 (hd3200) should use radeon instead of radeonhd

2009-03-27 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

In 9.10, if I don't specify a driver in xorg.conf radeonhd is used,
which by default gives very bad performance (because DRI is by default
off). Even if I manually turn on DRI it's performance (dragging windows
around, scrolling in firefox) is still worse than the radeon driver.

[Bug 297663] Re: Thinkpad X61 tablet - resume hangs after undocking and subsequent suspend to RAM

2009-03-19 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
well, either my X61 doesn't like booting usb drives or usb-creator fails
to create one properly, but I just can't seem to boot from usb. I am
leaning towards the former because in BIOS when I configure the boot
order there's a minus sign in front of USB HDD.

Anyhow, I tried! But I can't test this.

Just adding a note that I was not referencing a kernel patch at all ;-)

according to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473219#c18 an
updated kernel is not enough to resolve the bug, and
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=332186 is still needed.

[Bug 297663] Re: Thinkpad X61 tablet - resume hangs after undocking and subsequent suspend to RAM

2009-02-17 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
X61 don't have CDroms, the dock has one but since this requires taking
the laptop out of the dock we can't use that either.

Incidentally, according to the thread which starts at http://www.mail-
archive.com/ibm-acpi-de...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg01488.html , the
dock's cdrom is exactly what caused this problem. Someone posted a patch
there but it's for 2.6.26, (8.10 uses 2.6.27) but I can't find if that
patch has been accepted or not, nor anyone reporting that they've tried
that patch.

Is there a LiveUSB? The 2 side usb ports are visible after docking so I
can try that if a LiveUSB version exists and suspend works with it.

[Bug 75850] Re: Pidgin should support OS keyrings

2009-01-19 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
I've taken a look at that branch recently, it doesn't change the
existing APIs but adds quite a few, so we can do it in a minor release.
However, there are also quite a few problems (silly memory management,
bloated api) so it's not something that can just be merged.

for starters, I am thinking about redoing the _set_* hooks to be more
like how ssl is handled, kill the prefs and make the enablement of the
plugins as the prefs, and also killing all those destroy callback on
passwords.

Richard I know this really isn't the place that this should be
discussed, but you are nowhere to be found!

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-18 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
I can confirm that the bug is still present in Intrepid with kernel
2.6.27-9-generic on my AMD 780G board with an SB700
 southbridge (A Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H)... but...
After upgrading to kernel 2.6.27-11-generic from Intreprid Proposed it seems
to have solved the problem. Refer to
Leann Ogasawaras message from 2008-12-24 and the two previous messages for
further info. Now I can finally put
my old AT backup keyboard in the attic again :-)

I have a 780G based board as well but it's from ECS, 2.6.27-11-generic
from -proposed didn't fix it, neither did lowering max_sector, or a
combination of the two. Unloading ehci did workaround it though, but
higher transfer speed would be ideal.

What is this dns-nameservers entry? As far as I can tell it's not

network manager ifupdown plugin? Alex, you realized that approximately
zero machines out there actually have this setting in

[Bug 137873] Re: tracker-search-tool reports no result

2007-10-13 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
fair enough, I did killall trackerd and --reindex, when the cpu becomes
idle again I did tracker-status:

$ time tracker-status
Tracker daemon's status is Ë.

real0m25.013s
user0m0.004s
sys 0m0.000s

For some reason the returned status is garbled, trackerd memory
corruption? Also, notice that it took 25 seconds, the entire time cpu is
idle.

If I use tracker-search-tool to search, it tells me the search timed
out. So next I tried to kill trackerd by Ctrl-C in the reindex terminal,
but it did not terminate. Then I tried killall trackerd, and still not
terminating. Then I attached gdb to it:

(gdb) bt
#0 0xe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
#1 0xb7ba0e96 in nanosleep () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
#2 0xb7ba0ca7 in sleep () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
#3 0xb7d9b94b in sqlite3UnixSleep () from /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0
#4 0xb7d99767 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0
#5 0x03e8 in ?? ()
#6 0xb7dd0e40 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0
#7 0xbfb10528 in ?? ()
#8 0xb7d995c7 in sqlite3InvokeBusyHandler () from /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0
Backtrace stopped: frame did not save the PC

So next I kill -9'ed it, then restart without --reindex. Looks like it
indexed a bunch more stuff, but I am going to sleep now...

2007-10-11 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
I am also not able to get any search result. It worked at one point
after 0.6.3, but either a subsequent update broke it, or it just stopped
working on its own. tracker-status returns that tracker is idle, and
tracker-stats gives plenty of stuff indexed. I don't think doing a
--reindex is going to help much here, since even if it fixes it that's
just papering over the problem. Anything you want me to do to track down
the problem?

[Bug 150428] Re: pidgin text input box moves on text input (Gutsy Beta)

I committed a workaround e7a18c70a00a0534e1e6f7956970e10d6d0b69ec (and
the couple commits before that) to make our auto-resize code correctly
increase the size so it only jumps once. Note that the jumpy gtk bug is
still there and this merely works around it.

[Bug 137873] tracker-search-tool reports no result

2007-09-06 Thread Ka-Hing Cheung
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

tracker doesn't seem to work at all, search in tracker-search-tool
produces no result. I've upgraded to gusty for more than a week already,
and it looks like it already indexed quite a bit of data:

~/.cache/tracker $ ls -lh
total 115M
-rw--- 1 khc khc 45M 2007-09-06 19:56 email-content.db
-rw--- 1 khc khc 12K 2007-09-06 10:19 email-index.db
-rw--- 1 khc khc 52M 2007-09-06 19:56 email-meta.db
-rw--- 1 khc khc 7.0M 2007-09-06 19:55 file-content.db
-rw--- 1 khc khc 12K 2007-09-06 10:19 file-index.db
-rw--- 1 khc khc 11M 2007-09-06 19:55 file-meta.db

I looked around and it doesn't seem like tracker has any log, or any way
to get debug output at all. Running tracker-search-tool in terminal
produces no error or any message.
