[Bug 1886234] Re: libvirtd Tainted: kobject_add_internal failed for emu10k1-synth-0-1 with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory.

2020-08-21 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
I tried putting that parameter in grub after quiet splash, but I still
get the exact same error.

Hi Kai, I do not know how to answer that. What would be the procedure to
test that?

[Bug 1886234] Re: libvirtd Tainted: kobject_add_internal failed for emu10k1-synth-0-1 with -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same directory.

2020-07-13 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
Tested with 5.8.0-050800-generic downloaded from kernel ppa. Got exactly
the same error as above, except this time the whole system froze and
became unusable, so I had to kill the power to the PC.

Additionally I got a whole bunch of new errors in dmesg like

[ 31.072963] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read metadata cache entry [31b7fff]
[ 31.072964] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read directory block [31b7fff:13ee]

which seem to be unrelated.

[Bug 1886235] [NEW] EMU 1212m card (emu10k1 driver) stops working after PCI reset

2020-07-03 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
Public bug reported:

After using my computer for a day or so and coming back to it, my sound
card, EMU 1212m, randomly stops to work. And the only solution I have
found is completely turn off the power to the motherboard and wait a few
minutes until powering back on.

When the card works, I am able to reproduce the problem after typing:

sudo echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/:05:04.0/reset

Executing that command stops the card from outputting any sound, and I
see the following printed in dmesg:

[ 73.029029] snd_pcm_update_hw_ptr0: 3153 callbacks suppressed

It seems this is a problem with the driver snd_emu10k1 (maybe invalid buffer
size?). In the past, I have used this card in earlier Ubuntu's before without
any issues. All I had to do was to build and install the latest alsa-firmware,
alsa-lib, and alsa-utils from https://www.alsa-project.org/wiki/Download.

It's surprising that this card is not natively supported out of the box
in 20.04, but even worse, the driver emu10k1 appears to be broken.

[Bug 1837806] [NEW] Disk usage pie chart in properties dialog of nautilus is all dark

2019-07-24 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
Public bug reported:

It used to be that when I right click on the the root directory in
nautilus and click properties, I'd see a colored pie chart that would
look something like this:

https://i.stack.imgur.com/eqwvr.png

But, when I click "+ Other locations", click "Computer", right click and
click "Properties", I am greeted with this instead:

https://i.imgur.com/9dhc0cz.png

It looks like the pie chart is broken because the colors are not
displaying properly.

I ran this bug report with `ubuntu-bug`, so hopefully it contains enough
details about my setup, but just in case, I am using Intel HD Graphics
5500 on Ubuntu 19.04, with Gnome 3.32.0, which I installed today. Let me
know if you need more information.

[Bug 1832449] Re: Right click menu does not appear near the mouse on multi-monitor setup

2019-06-12 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
Oh my goodness. I just found out the culprit was the Gnome extension
"Multi Monitors Add-On". I had originally installed this extension so
that I can have the top bar on both monitors. But after disabling it,
right click menus works fine !

I'm going to file a bug report with the author of that extension.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I'm adding that my laptop's
display resolution has been set to 1368 x 768 even though it supports
1920 x 1080.

[Bug 1832449] Re: Right click menu on nautilus does not appear near the mouse

2019-06-12 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
Thanks for helping to resolve this problem. I've notice that it's not
just nautilus, right click menus are all other apps appear at an offset
as well. And it happens to be the offset that is the distance between
the cursor's y position and the top of the smaller monitor. Here it is
described in a picture:

I'm on X11 and gdm3 display manager.

[Bug 1832449] Re: Right click menu on nautilus does not appear near the mouse

2019-06-12 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected disco

** Description changed:

I have an external monitor connected to a laptop via HDMI. If I set up
the laptop display's position like this:

  https://imgur.com/oFbqnBm

And open a new nautilus windows on my external monitor (which I've set
to be primary), the right click context menu appears at some weird
y-offset from where the mouse is:

  https://imgur.com/BfxUZVU

However, when I set the position of the second monitor like so:

  https://imgur.com/yN6VzSI

The right click menu appears where it is supposed to be.

[Bug 1084405] Re: package linux-libc-dev 3.5.0-18.29 [modified: usr/include/sound/asequencer.h usr/include/sound/asound.h usr/include/sound/compress_params.h usr/include/sound/emu10k1.h usr/include/so

2012-11-29 Thread Kamyar Kaviani
It wasn't a kernel panic. It was just the installer crashing.

This was due to the alsa sound drivers I had installed earlier. apt-get
-f install fixed everything after deleting these files:

usr/include/sound/asequencer.h usr/include/sound/asound.h
usr/include/sound/compress_params.h usr/include/sound/emu10k1.h
usr/include/sound/hdsp.h usr/include/sound/sb16_csp.h
