[Bug 1318119] Re: 14.04 corrupted graphics on cirrus (in qemu) [PATCH available]

2014-12-10 Thread Dax kelson
I just updated the xserver-xorg-core package to xserver-xorg-
core_1.15.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb and I can confirm that the corrupted
graphics problem is now fixed.

Actually, I hadn't really tested it as I forgot I was using nomodeset
as a workaround. I've now tested it for real. I was able to just update
xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common. Fix confirmed.

[Bug 1318119] [NEW] corrupted graphics on cirrus (in qemu)

2014-05-09 Thread Dax kelson
Public bug reported:

Running 14.04 LTS inside of qemu-kvm with its emulated cirrus gpu that
uses 24bpp frontbuffers causes broken rendering. 12.04 LTS worked fine
with no corruption on the same qemu-kvm host.

RHEL7 public beta had the same problem
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1074106).

RHEL7 Release Candidate applied this patch:

http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/18244/

From the patch:

So we have 2 places where gpus with 24bpp frontbuffers are still
in use, cirrus (in qemu) and some early variants of the mgag200
server chips.

Currently we seem to get a lot of broken rendering in qt, mesa, gnome
if we expose the frontbuffer as 24bpp, nobody seems to test this
anymore upstream so client side apps are constantly broken, so lets
just make -modesetting expose a 24/32 shadow frontbuffer, and use
the shadow update hook to convert down to the actual 24bpp front,
this might be slower, but its correct and really anyone that wants
this already has enough problems.

Ubuntu version: 14.04 LTS
Effected version: xserver-xorg-video-modesetting-0.8.1-1build1

[Bug 709829] [NEW] Firefox 5 seconds long freezes every few minutes

2011-01-29 Thread Kelson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on x86_64 with an Intel Corporation 82G965
Integrated Graphics Controller.

Since a few months (I can not be more precise) my Firefox has been
really often (one time every few minutes) freezing (not only the
rendering but also the User interface).

With the time this becames really a problem and I started to search to
understand the issue.

At the end, I think I have found the solution here:
http://blog.kelsin.net/2009/02/24/slow-firefox-high-xorg-cpu-usage-debian-and-ubuntu-solved/

I have add Option AccelMethod XAA to the xorg.conf and now it
works perfectly.

It seems to be related to xorg and gtk... but for me the only impact I
have remarked was in FF.

[Bug 173856] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] installing dictionaries in openoffice too complicated

2008-12-25 Thread Kelson
IMO, this bug is not (only) an openoffice bug. I have tried, and it
seems for me to be the most common approach, to install the Spanish
dictionary with the add/remove application menu item. Unfortunately,
it's just impossible to be successful doing it that way. I had to make
an apt-cache search openoffice dictionary to get myspell-es listed
and install it.

I think that displaying a dialogbox with the following message (or

... and if Yes do a kill -HUP like proposed...

[Bug 269213] Re: Nautilus-image-converter does not work immediatly

2008-11-22 Thread Kelson
I'm fully agree with A. Walton.

A. Walton, If I correctly understand, your patch allows to Nautilus to
run plugins without to have being restarted... and to add a plugin and
use it, we will just need to write a file in the special Nautilus plugin
directory. If that's the case, I find your patch, in principle, fully OK
: that seems to be for me the best solution ; but what says the Nautilus
dev. team about it ? Do we have a chance to see it, or something
similar, integrated in the Nautilus trunk ? Do you are in touch with
them ? or maybe part of them ?

[Bug 261891] [NEW] Bad default focus in the Wireless Network Secrets required dialog

2008-08-27 Thread Kelson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

As you can see with the screenshot, the focus is on the Wireless
Security combobox.

But:
* The combobox has (in my case) only one item.
* The default choice seems to be the good one... and every normal user wants
now to type his password,

The normal behaviour is, in my opinion, to provide the default focus to
the password text input.

I think I have the solution : the problem is that the 20-libsane.fdi
does not have my scanner.

I have done the following change and it works now :

[Bug 218586] [NEW] Upgrade of avahi-daemon restarts it although it's desactivated

2008-04-17 Thread Kelson
Public bug reported:

I have Gutsy.

The avahi-daemon generates problems with name resolution by me, so I have
deactivated it with the system admin service dialog box.
This morning was an update of the avahi-daemon (0.6.20-2ubuntu3) which seems to
have reactivated it silently because my problem have reappeared.
The system admin service dialog box showed a desactivated (check out)
service... but check in and again and again check out and press the OK button
has resolved the problem.

I have had to do that this morning on two ubuntu Gutsy computers.

** Affects: avahi (Ubuntu)

My problem does not seem to be a duplicate of 109727 I do not have a
crash, the scanner is simply not recognized as scanner and not
accessible for normal users.

[Bug 207313] [NEW] iwl4965 : suddently ! no wlan anymore

2008-03-26 Thread Kelson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12-generic

Dear devs.

I own a recent Thinkpad x61s with an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless
4965 wireless device.

I have had access to my wlan network correctly until yesterday : where
after two hours online, the device simply diseappeared. Since this
moment, It has not been possible for me to bring it back.

Yesterday I was with Gutsy, but I have updated to Hardy... and the
problem is still here.

In further attachments, you will find the traditional logs:
* uname -a  uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

The problem seems to be following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dmesg | grep iwl
[ 27.576614] iwl4965: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN driver for Linux,
1.2.0
[ 27.576618] iwl4965: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation
[ 27.576812] iwl4965: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
[ 28.506641] iwl4965: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch

In addition :
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /sys/bus/pci/drivers/iwl4965/\:03\:00.0/rf_kill
0

Changing it with:
echo 0 /sys/bus/pci/drivers/iwl4965/\:03\:00.0/rf_kill

does not change anything.

Reloading the module with:
sudo modprobe -r iwl4965 ; sudo modprobe iwl4965

does unfortunately not change anything too...

Other idea : setting the BIOS value with default values... but that does
not change anything.

I suppose I have shutdowned the wifi with a key combination, but typing
FN+F5, which seems to be responsible for that, does nothing... nothing
happens... and the wifi LED is always OFF (no light).

I have now, no idea anymore to recover my wifi device... and
unfortunately a few people seem to have similar problems.

I hope this bug report will help you to identify the problem.
