[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04)
Hi, OK I have tried both temporary and permanent grub boot changes with modified intel_idle.max_cstate=2 and 4 and on all occasions after grub update and reboot the boot splash page is steady the login page flickers badly and the desktop settles but still flickers. Tks for the help but unfortunately workaround does not work on the Dell Insperion 955 Intel i7 64/16Gb 1tb Radeon GPU. Ive include a snap shot of my patched grub boot file. ** Attachment added: "GrubIdlePatch.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2062951/+attachment/5781539/+files/GrubIdlePatch.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062951 Title: Random flickering with Intel i915 on Linux 6.8 (Ubuntu 24.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2062951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1974267] Re: XSET dpms force suspend causes kernel panic
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected jammy uec-images ** Description changed: Device Specs are a HP Prodesk 600 G4 DM. 1 stick DDR4 2666mhz 16gb and I7-8600T CPU. I am running an application that uses a touch screen that turns off the monitor when not used. It uses the DPMS time out commands on the monitor. I have manually triggered the crash using ssh into the computer. Turning off the monitor manually does not cause it. I have ran the monitor from usbc combined as well as power and hdmi only to verify that it is not an issue with the touch screen drivers. Using tail -f on /var/log/Xorg.0.log, Xorg.1.log and on syslogd. I can see xserver issue the command and then starts spamming the mode line information from the monitor when the monitor disconnects. Within a second the syslog reports "snd_hda_codec_hdmi hdaudioC0D2: HDMI: pin nid 7 not registered" and then within 5 seconds the computer reboots.I have tried collecting a kdump, but when enabled, the computer is permanently frozen and the power button has to be held down to reboot the machine. When testing the Kdump with the ssh trigger crash, the crash log is generated properly. This bug may be similar to https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/alsa- devel/patch/20190716144111.1470-1-ti...@suse.de/ I cannot confirm however on the behavior. It could be that the xserver package is trying to use the something when the monitor is in suspend or off. No crash occurs when the monitor is disconnected or when the monitor shutsdown. Only when the monitor enters a DPMS state does the kernel panic. I am attaching 4 ssh terminals from when I induced a crash. + --- + ProblemType: Bug + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k5.15.0-30-generic. + AplayDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'aplay' + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.1 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'arecord' + AudioDevicesInUse: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'fuser' + CRDA: N/A + Card0.Amixer.info: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'amixer' + Card0.Amixer.values: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'amixer' + CasperMD5CheckResult: pass + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-05-19 (4 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Release amd64 (20220421) + Lsusb: + Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub + Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0032 Intel Corp. [Bug 1970124] Re: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04
All systems run a bit strange if disk space runs out, most not too gracefully. duplicity will estimate the space needed on the local system to run duplicity, but cannot check the remote. It will fail with whatever status the remote returns, which you should then correct if possible. I don't know what caused your truncation, but the error message should now be clearer and have the responsible filename in it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970124 Title: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/1970124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1970124] Re: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04
Good catch on the script. Looks like you've run afoul of two bugs, one in Samba and one in duplicity: 1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/385495 - no solution yet. 2. Google "samba large file size". Looks like 2GB is the limit. I suspect the file was written on the last backup and samba simply truncated it at 2GB. The only option suggested in what I read was to mount the drive as in https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-access-files- greater-than-2gb-samba, and samba will accept the LFS. There may be a way to do it in config. I would suggest mounting the drive with LFS enabled and rerunning the backup after running "duplicity cleanup --force ". ** Changed in: duplicity Assignee: Kenneth Loafman (kenneth-loafman) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: duplicity Status: In Progress => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970124 Title: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/1970124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1970124] Re: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04
Thank you for responding. I'm convinced the error is a truncated .gz file, but duplicity is not telling us which one. So, let's go to the source directly. On your remote machine: $ cd /home/scohen/Taormina $ for f in *.gz; do echo "--- $f ---"; tar tzf $f; done This will list the index of all the *.gz files and failure should indicate which one is truncated. That file will be the one with '--- filename ---' prior to the error. Then we can figure out what to do next. ** Changed in: duplicity Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: duplicity Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: duplicity Assignee: (unassigned) => Kenneth Loafman (kenneth-loafman) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970124 Title: duplicity backup fails with obscure error message Ubuntu 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/1970124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948528] Thank you for your help

[Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen
On my system I found that the left-edge cursor malfunction began in Linux Mint 19.3. The malfunction was unchanged when I tested with live- boot thumbsticks for Ubuntu, MX, and Manjaro. [Bug 1948528] [NEW] Mouse pointer doesn't reach left edge of screen
Public bug reported: In the live-boot USB stick of Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 LTS: My mouse pointer does not visually reach the left edge of the screen. Logically the pointer functionality does reach the left edge, in the sense that it can select and copy text that extends to the left edge, but the pointer cannot be viewed performing this action; the displayed pointer stops (appears frozen) about two millimeters from the left edge. The pointer reaches the upper, lower, and right edges of the screen without any problem. My mouse and screen are brand new. My computer is 5 years old (launch 2016, purchase 2019). I have the same problem with my Linux Mint (Cinnamon and Mate desktops), which is based on Ubuntu. I perform regular updates to the system. The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not show any errors or warnings related to the mouse. [Bug 1944642] Re: Xenial (ESM) - 4.15.0-156 creates event storm when ejecting DVD-ROM media
Hello Tim! I'm familiar with using 'git bisect' to track down bugs, but not so familiar with working with Debian packages. (My primary Linux is Gentoo, and don't _usually_ deal directly with Debian packages at work.) Will the process for this be: You build some number of kernel package .debs and send them to me, along with instructions on how to correctly switch to each one and in which order I should switch. I then tell you between which two the bug appears? If yes (or something pretty similar), yeah, I have time for that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1944642 Title: Xenial (ESM) - 4.15.0-156 creates event storm when ejecting DVD-ROM media To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1944642/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1944642] [NEW] Xenial (ESM) - 4.15.0-156 creates event storm when ejecting DVD-ROM media
Public bug reported: Hello! I'm a programmer employed by VMWare. We're using Ubuntu Xenial, have an ESM contract, and have run into what we believe to be a nasty interaction between a kernel change and the `cdrom_id --eject-media` command. This problem started happening after upgrading from 4.15.0-154 to 4.15.0-156. I am reporting a kernel "device change" event storm that appears to not stop on its own and is triggered by both ejecting media from a DVD-ROM drive AND having a udev rule which contains the following line: ENV{DISK_EJECT_REQUEST}=="?*", RUN+="cdrom_id --eject-media $devnode", GOTO="cdrom_end" If you eliminate this line from your udev rule file, the storm will never happen. This strongly suggests that the cdrom_id program is a key component in the problem. As mentioned before, this problem happened after we upgraded from kernel 4.15.0-154 to kernel 4.15.0-156 as part of a regular update to the Canonical-included packages that we use as a base for our system. Based on the evidence, we believe that this is a regression from kernel version 4.15.0-154. This storm prevents new media inserted into the drive from being recognized and mounted. In order for any new media inserted into the drive to be recognized, one must terminate the storm by do one of two things: Either: Move `/lib/udev/cdrom_id` to some other location, wait for a moment for the storm to stop, then move it back. Media inserted into the drive will be immediately recognized. or: Insert the media several times until it stays inserted. In testing "several" has been "three or four", but I have no idea of the upper or lower bounds of this number. Each time you insert the media, it will be automatically removed from the VM. On the insertion immediately _before_ the one that actually works, the event storm will stop, and the media will be -again- automatically removed. On the next insertion, the media will stay in, and you will be able to actually mount the media inside the VM. When you look at the output of `udevadm monitor -u -k` during the event storm the following event is generated at a rate roughly ten times per second: KERNEL[3198.914510] change /devices/pci:00/:00:07.1/ata1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sr0 (block) UDEV [3199.021261] change /devices/pci:00/:00:07.1/ata1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sr0 (block) Relevant system information: OS: Ubuntu Xenial ESM IAAS: vSphere 7.0 uname -a output: Linux test-machine 4.15.0-156-generic #163~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 23 13:38:23 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Likely Reproduction Steps: 1) Boot a machine (virtual or otherwise) with an attached DVD-ROM drive with the 4.15.0-156-generic kernel. 2) Insert media into the drive. 3) Eject the media. 4) Notice that `udevadm monitor -u -k` is showing you an endless stream of "device change" events. [Bug 487720] Re: Restore fails with "Invalid data - SHA1 hash mismatch"
I need to find a reproducible scenario. There are hardware reasons for network transfers to drop bits and there are software reasons for the problem. I think we are seeing a mix of both. I've had downloads fail when going through a non-parity checking router, so that's one for hardware.
