[Bug 672560] Re: audio choppy

2011-01-15 Thread Kevin Sumner
+1. This is on an amd64 box. I've tried the FCEUX recommendations* of
swapping the SDL audio driver (after installing the libsdl1.2debian-all
package). In order, I tried the esd, oss, and alsa drivers. Console
each time indicated that it was definitely using the requested driver,
but the sound was still choppy.

[Bug 445863] Re: Spell checking doesn't allow US English words when using English language

2010-03-15 Thread Kevin Sumner
There is at least an option in gedit's language settings (Tools Set
Language...) to use US English, which isn't the case in empathy. That
said, gedit's generic English option doesn't recognize US English-
specific words either, which runs counter to how I would think it should
work: English should recognize all English dialects, and the specific
entries (English (United States), English (Australian), etc.) should
only recognize their specific words.

From a 'Joe User' standpoint, if I select English or US English
during the install, these bits should be configured accordingly. From
an interface standpoint, shouldn't the language options set in System
Administration Language Support be obeyed by all Gnome applications,
by default at least? Mine is currently set to English (United States)
and gedit and empathy are both ignoring it.

[Bug 514274] Re: NTLMv2 Authentication Not Enabled By Default

2010-02-21 Thread Kevin Sumner
This should probably be marked higher than wishlist. By default,
Windows Vista (probably also 7) requires NTLMv2 and I think (not
confirmed) Windows 2008 domain controllers require this for their shares
as well.

Unless enabling v2 prevents v1 authentication, I can't think of any good
reason not to enable this by default on Ubuntu (or even in upstream).

[Bug 445863] [NEW] Spell checking doesn't allow US English words when using English language

2009-10-07 Thread Kevin Sumner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When I have English selected for the spell checking language under
Edit Preferences Spell Checking, US English spellings of words
(e.g., favorite, behavior, and analyze), are marked as incorrect
and their GB English counterparts (e.g., favourite, behaviour, and
analyse) are suggested instead.

I make Empathy recognize US English words locally by using gconf-editor to
change the relevant entry at the path below from en to en-US and restarting
Empathy.
  /apps/empathy/conversation/spell_checker_languages

There are two better fixes I can see for this:
(1) Break out the general English into the different dialects, e.g, one entry
for English (GB), another for English (US), another for English (ZA),
etc. I believe this to be the best of available options.
(2) Use the entry English as a composite option, which would actually add
all en-* dialects to the spell checker.

This could potentially be a problem with other languages with major
dialects, such as Chinese (zh-cn and zh-tw), but I have not verified
this.

It should be noted that my system was installed with US English with no
other languages or dialects installed.

[Bug 342946] Re: intermitten buzzing from speakers using hda-intel alsa on dell mini 9 jaunty netbook remix

2009-05-13 Thread Kevin Sumner
I can confirm this is present on my Thinkpad Z61t and my roommate is
also getting this behavior on his R61. Both the machines have hda-intel
cards and both are running standard Ubuntu 9.04 i386 build (not netbook
remix, kubuntu, etc). pidgin notifications are generally the worst
offenders, but I have occasionally heard it with other applications.

uname -a from the z61t:
Linux tubular 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009

We both didn't see this behavior in Intrepid.

[Bug 280382] [NEW] geshi installed in possibly wrong location

2008-10-08 Thread Kevin Sumner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php-geshi

Package php-geshi installs into a location not specified in php.ini
installed with apache2 package and php5-cli.

Most other PHP addons install into /usr/share/php, whereas php-geshi
installs into /usr/share/php-geshi. This could have been a typo while
extracting the addon while creating the package, but it makes inclusion
of geshi somewhat of a pain and quite non-portable. You'd need to
update the ini's include_path variable in every script and can't use
include('geshi/geshi.php'), which is expected most places.
Alternatively, you could require an explicit full path in inclusion.
Neither of these options, though, are optimal.

The simplest fix is to move /usr/share/php-geshi to
/usr/share/php/geshi, which would correct all problems.

This is on a fully-updated hardy 8.04.1 install. php-geshi is
1.0.7.20-1. Also, I have extracted the current php-geshi from intrepid
(1.0.7.22-1), and can confirm that it has the same problem.

[Bug 209342] Re: IBM T40 breaks under Hardy with 2.6.24 kernel

2008-04-27 Thread Kevin Sumner
I have this same problem my IBM T40 with the stock Hardy kernel. It
happened first after upgrading from Gutsy, and on a clean install from
Hardy DVD.

I did the following until this can be officially rectified.
[snip]
sudo bash
wget
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-source-2.6.22/linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic_2.6.22-14.52_i386.deb
dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic_2.6.22-14.52_i386.deb
sed -i -e 's%^default .*%default 2%' /boot/grub/menu.lst
update-grub
[/snip]

Then rebooted.

I'll attach the previously requested outputs in moments.
