Finally, here's the dmesg output after the same procedure, except I booted with slub_debug. Jeremy, sorry for mistagging. About the leak I saw in Karmic, I couldn't reproduce it with valgrind, so no evidence from my side. As I wrote in the upstream bug report, just now I watched a 50 min film clip with tons of these notifications completely ruining my experience. I'll attach a patch (and a debdiff) that simply removes two lines from eventmonitor.cpp in kdebase-runtime. This might not be the most elegant way to go about, but I can't see how it would hurt. Ah, that was good fun while it lasted :) Although, I'm no programmer by any means, I gave this a shot, figuring it would be all bash scripts. [Bug 404568] [NEW] after update to KDE 4.3 RC3, audio stutters
Public bug reported: As the summary says, after updating to the newly released rc3 of KDE 4.3, on karmic, audio has started to stutter. I couldn't get any sound using the gstreamer backend, so I've only tried different settings with the xine backend. I've tried using the pulse setting as well as the alsa setting. The result is exactly the same; short stutters every 5-7 seconds or so. The reason I believe this is a phonon bug, rather than a kernel or alsa bug, is that playing audio files using any non-phonon application works as expected. [Bug 395358] Re: thinkpad fn+f5 regression now toggles wifi and bluetooth at once
Steve, sorry for not providing more details. Since I was seeing the exact same symptoms on my machine, I simply assumed I had the same bug. Particularly since the kernel part supposedly causing the issue is the platform independent rfkill module (as per LP #397698). I'll try to give some more details here, and if you still think I have a different bug, let me know and I'll just go away. In jaunty, the state of my bluetooth and wlan device, were controlled by means of /sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/bluetooth, and /sys/class/net/wlan0/device/rfkill/*/state, respectively. In Karmic, they're both controlled by means of /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state. Now, in Jaunty pressing Fn+F2 (which corresponds to Fn+F5 on the thinkpad) cycles the different possible states of bt+wlan. In Karmic, however, bt+wlan are turned off simultaneously. What's peculiar is that when FN+F2 toggles the radio devices to off, the /sys/class/rfkill/rfkillX that corresponds to the bluetooth device is removed (leaving me with just one rfkill device), and when it's toggled back on, the bluetooth-rfkill device comes back but, but this time named rfkillX+1 (that is rfkill1, becomes rfkill2, next time around rfkill3, etc.) All this is being done with acpi-support stopped, which means (if I'm not misunderstanding anything here), that none of the platform specific scripts in /etc/acpi/* are run. Likewise, I can't change the value of /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state manually. Shouldn't hal be in charge of hotkeys nowadays, instead of acpi-support? If I don't misremember this, hal doesn't know how to cycle states, but rather changes the state of bt+wlan the way described here. -- thinkpad fn+f5 regression now toggles wifi and bluetooth at once https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 395358] Re: thinkpad fn+f5 regression now toggles wifi and bluetooth at once
Gah! I just wrote a long explanation for why I believe I'm experiencing the same bug, but the browser crashed. So this is just a condensed version of that. 1) The problem seems to be related to rfkill, which is platform independent. 2) stopping acpi-support and acpid, I still have the same problem (i.e. the hotkey behaves the same as if they were running, which makes me think none of the platform specific scripts from /etc/acpi/* are run). 3) I can't change the values of /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state manually. Isn't hal responsible for hotkey handling nowadays? If I don't misremember, hal can't handle cycling of bt+wlan, but rather behaves just as explained here, turning bt+wlan either on or off simultaneously. If you still think I'm having a different bug, let me know, and I'll go away. -- thinkpad fn+f5 regression now toggles wifi and bluetooth at once https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Which brings me to my point: with 2.6.3 I have had no server crash on my 855GM with UXA enabled, whereas on 2.6.1 I had a couple of hard xserver hangs. So +1 for trying out 2.6.3 :-) -- [i845G] Fatal server error: Couldn't bind memory for BO front buffer (Jaunty) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304871 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 330103] [NEW] [jaunty] apt-get source linux-image`-uname -r` does not download sources
Public bug reported: During my intrepid days, the following command would download the linux sources along with everything needed to rebuild a kernel package locally: apt-get source linux-image-`uname -r` That's precisely the behavior I would expect. [Bug 320874] Re: [asus] /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has it backwards
Note sure if it's a dupe. I'm seeing the problem on Jaunty with a 2.6.28 kernel, so it probably isn't. One note about this bug: I tried running on kernel 2.6.29-rc4 and with that kernel the values in /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness work properly. That is, the values from 0 to 13 correspond to the backlight where 0 is lowest possible and 13 is highest possible. However, the userspace tools didn't work the way they should. Neither xbacklight, gnome-power- manager, nor the fn-keys worked well. The changed the backlight in what seemed to be a random manner. -- [asus] /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has it backwards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 304871] Re: [i845G] Fatal server error: Couldn't bind memory for BO front buffer (Jaunty)
Perhaps it would make sense to track version 2.7 of the intel driver for jaunty (which would in effect mean the master branch for now, I guess). After all, intel releases on a quarterly basis. Last release was in q4 2008, so 2.7 should be released in q1 2009, i.e. in time for the jaunty release. And I'm sure it'll have a lot of UXA stabilization going in. In either event, it's hard to imagine 2.7 being less stable and less performant than 2.6.x :-p -- [i845G] Fatal server error: Couldn't bind memory for BO front buffer (Jaunty) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304871 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 326281] [NEW] akonadi crashes straight after login
Public bug reported: On a fresh kubuntu alpha-4 installation (although this is true of alpha-3 as well), akonadi crashes immediately after logging in. I am presented with a window which seems show results of some sort of a self test, but choosing save report crashes that window as well, so I have no logs to attach here. Here: http://paste.ubuntu.com:80/114867/ The only changes I made to the default install options are: 1) I'm on an ext4 filesystem, and 2) I'm using encrypted home (not full encryption, just the ecryptfs variety that encrypts only home). [Bug 320874] Re: [asus] /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has it backwards
This bug is particularly important to fix for kubuntu users. In ubuntu, blacklisting the video module gives a working desktop environment, as gnome-power-manager apparently handles the backlight by some other means. The KDE power manager, however, doesn't seem to have this alternate way of controlling the backlight. I personally think the importance on this bug should be bumped as it's 1) a regression, and 2) really bad for laptop users wrt power consumption and battery life. There are reports that the issue indeed is fixed in 2.6.29, so I backport should be possible. -- [asus] /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has it backwards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
