[Bug 887793] Re: [HP 6710b] Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

2016-09-22 Thread Kim Tucker
Just in case anyone is interested, the problem is still there after a
fresh install of Linux Mint 18 ( macbook pro retina 10.1). The following
alleviates (etc. as above except in my case gpe16):

echo "disable" > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe16

[Bug 1522675] Re: /root/.synaptic/ not created due to locking status

2016-07-11 Thread Kim Tucker
In case useful, I have just done a fresh install of Xenial, followed by 'sudo
apt-get install synaptic'. The following error arose when trying to install
blubuntu-theme and blubuntu-wallpapers
W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh'
couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied).
After completely removing via synaptic, it installed fine with apt-get.

[Bug 1252655] Re: Thunar assigns date stamp of deleted file when previous (e.g. original) copy of file copied or moved into directory

2013-11-21 Thread Kim Tucker
Yes, it does seem to be related to fat32, though the problem is still
evident when Thunar is showing a directory on ext4.

When retesting I also had a few surprises (unable at first to
reproduce). It is tricky because one has to check with 'ls -al' that
what Thunar shows corresponds the actual date stamp.

A few more tests copying/moving/replacing only on the ext4 drive seem
fine, a few tests only on fat32 seemed fine, but if I copy/move from
fat32 to ext4 (or vice-versa), then what Thunar displays does not agree
with 'ls -al'. View Reload and ctrl-r do not help (they should).

It seems that Thunar caches some info about the file. If I exit Thunar
completely and then view the same folder again (on ext4, or fat32) it
displays the correct date modified.

[Bug 1252655] [NEW] Thunar assigns date stamp of deleted file when previous (e.g. original) copy of file copied or moved into directory

2013-11-19 Thread Kim Tucker
Public bug reported:

While changing directory structures and trying to reduce the number of
duplicate files on an external usb drive - dragging, dropping and
deleting files manually with Thunar - I noticed the above (title/one
line summary) in the following situation:

(e.g.) I have 2 identical files 'filename.ext' in two folders:
'folder-to-delete/' contains the original file with the original date stamp,
'folder-to-keep/' has the same file but a different (later) date stamp as it
was copied previously (with this problem).

If I delete the file 'folder-to-keep/filename.ext' and then copy or move
(drag/drop) the file 'folder-to-delete/filename.ext' into 'folder-to-
keep/', the file now in 'folder-to-keep/' acquires a new date stamp
(matching the deleted file).

However, if I drag or drop the file into an empty folder which has not
previously contained a version of it, the original date stamp is
retained (as I require/expect).

If I first move (by drag and drop) the unwanted file 'folder-to-
keep/filename.ext' elsewhere, and then copy/move 'folder-to-
delete/filename.ext' into 'folder-to-keep/', the original date stamp is
retained (as I require/expect).

The problem is independent of whether I empty trash after deleting.

So, is this a bug?
I would expect moving or copying a file to some other folder should retain its
date of creation and modification.
Overwriting/replacing the unwanted file with the wanted one should retain date
stamp of the wanted.
In the scenario above the new date stamp is incorrect, so I expect this is a
bug.

In a Xubuntu session.

A quick test with Nautilus also in a Xubuntu session on the same system:
no. Nautilus works as I would expect: copying, moving and replacing all
retain the date stamp whether the unwanted file was previously deleted
or moved or not (i.e. replaced).

[Bug 268434] Re: Screen Resolution is not being restored after relogin

Hi all,

In case this is still an issue for lucid, using karmic and kde3, the
instructions here worked for me:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Xorg_RandR_1.2

i.e.

Version of xrandr:

$ xrandr -v
Server reports RandR version 1.3

$ xrandr -q

note what screens are connected and substitute for VGA1 and LVDS1 in the
indicated text for 45custom_xrandr-settings

$ sudo kate /etc/X11/Xsession.d/45custom_xrandr-settings

paste the indicated text from the above site and edit it for your VGA
and LVDS devices and save.

[Bug 224760] [NEW] Unable to copy files to Novell Netware drive - ncpfs Nautilus

2008-04-30 Thread Kim Tucker
Public bug reported:

Problem arose after update to Hardy.

I can access (edit and save) and move files, and create folders on the
mapped drives - but cannot copy files from my laptop for example.

Downgraded to a previous version of ncpfs (2.2.6-3) but that did not
help.

Ubuntu 8.04
ncpfs 2.2.6-3

to a mapped Netware drive: expected a copy to appear on the mapped
drive.

Instead:
