[Bug 1977667] Re: package nginx-core 1.18.0-6ubuntu14.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed nginx-core package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Thanks Simon. Yes, the nginx package probably failed to upgrade because the service didn't start. And it didn't start because of a missing certificate: -- Boot 0baea423fe7d453f9d1f6091bc398839 -- Starting A high performance web server and a reverse proxy server... nginx: [emerg] cannot load certificate "/etc/ssl/certs/heliosd.crt": BIO_new_file() failed (SSL: error:8002:system library::No such file or directory:calling fopen(/etc/ssl/certs/heliosd.crt, r) error:1080:BIO rou> nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed nginx.service: Control process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE nginx.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. Failed to start A high performance web server and a reverse proxy server. But as I mentioned previously, that should not have crashed the installer. And to be clear, by installer I'm not talking about the nginx package maintainer scripts, but during upgrade from Impish to Jammy via do-release-upgrade(8). [Bug 362427] Re: Public key ssh auth doesn't work with my Encrypted Home Directory
This looks like this is a problem that affects many but that there doesn't appear to be any viable solution to. It seems as though the best we can hope for is to configure sshd to look for the authorized_keys outside the home directory while it is still unmounted, but all that does is login to the machine but still leave the home directory unmounted. [Bug 30910] Re: Hardware Database not browseable
I agree with the concerns of some of those above. If the hardware database is no longer maintained, closing the bug as a wishlist is less than ideal because it doesn't actually address the OP's original concern. It would be better if there was a hardware database Canonical maintained. This can't be rocket science to build: * Ubiquity installer makes some queries to the system with the user's permission. * Installer makes some JSON POST requests to remote server. * Remote server stores anonymous hardware description in a MySQL or PostgreSQL database. * Database has a web based front end that shows some pies, tables, a field for queries, etc. This can probably be put together in a few days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/30910 Title: Hardware Database not browseable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/checkbox/+bug/30910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1481177] Re: Kernel hard lock upon removing mounted SD card
Hey Joseph. It's been happening for a while now with at least half a dozen or so kernel upgrades. I waited until now to submit the bug report because it was tricky getting the debug logs. I'm going to guess and say it's probably something to do with the way card was unmounted, but I can't be sure. Hey Joseph. It's been happening for a while now with at least half a dozen or so kernel upgrades. I waited until now to submit the bug report because it was tricky getting the debug logs. I'm going to guess and say it's probably still an issue with the latest upstream, and further guess that that's probably because the issue may not be in the kernel itself, but in X / vga kernel module. I also just experienced a similar crash. When I turned off my second LCD connected via DVI: The program 'xfsettingsd' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadRRCrtc (invalid Crtc parameter)'. (Details: serial 2320 error_code 148 request_code 140 minor_code 21) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. [Bug 1315098] [NEW] GUI for managing ACL
Public bug reported: Problem: Some people may need to have a GUI to manage the file system's access control list. Unfortunately it seems that the existing projects do not take into consideration a very large user-base. When you attempt to locate or search for a particular user, most projects will only provide a simple list of users with no filtering tools, this can quickly become unsustainable if the user-base is higher then 100 users. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup a ldap with more then 100 users 2. Configure a system to authenticate using ldap 3. Setup ACL on one of the filesystems 4 Lunch Eiciel and try to find a particular user in the list Actual Results: Not only is it very hard to find a user if you have a user base of lets say 120 000 users, but it also seems that Eiciel only list the first 100 users Expected Results: Eiciel should scale better with large user bases and provide convenient ways to filter and / or search for users. If this is a limitation in the backend, such as OpenLDAP, then the problem may need to be fixed there. If it cannot be fixed in the backend, then Eiciel could possibly be modified to perform multiple queries in a background thread to fetch the complete pool. Known Workaround: The only knows work around is to use the command line. This is cumbersome for some users. ** Affects: eiciel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Kip Warner (kip) Status: In Progress ** Tags: acl large ldap ldif search ** Changed in: eiciel (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Kip Warner (kip) ** Changed in: eiciel (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315098 Title: GUI for managing ACL To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eiciel/+bug/1315098/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1208285] [NEW] Official Ubuntu ISO should use isomd5sum for embedded checksum
Public bug reported: The Ubuntu ISO and official derivatives could contain embedded MD5 checksums at the iso9660 metadata layer by using isomd5sum tools to implant and check the checksum. This may be faster than checking each package at the file system level because the verification process when done at the block level is a single linear seek without having to jump around. The checksum can even be verified after the image has been burned and mounted. From the tool's README: isomd5sum provides a way of making use of the ISO9660 application data area to store md5sum data about the iso. This allows you to check the iso given nothing more than the iso itself. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208285 Title: Official Ubuntu ISO should use isomd5sum for embedded checksum To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1208285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 30910] Re: Hardware Database not browseable
Hey Jeff. Great response and thanks. As I mentioned, my main concern now, and I can't speak for everyone else with issues with the hw database, is not knowing what is the most common hardware used by Ubuntu users. I'm less concerned with whether this motherboard or that video card is certified to work with it. If I had more time and wasn't working on this new Ubuntu game title full time, I would definitely take your recommendation and follow up with the suggested people.
[Bug 30910] Re: Hardware Database not browseable
Hey Jeff. It might help some people, but unfortunately not in my case. I don't need a hardware database of Ubuntu compatible hardware at present. What I need as an Ubuntu game developer is to see statistics on the most common hardware that is being used (e.g. GPU, CPU, etc.).
