Public bug reported: With kernel 4.10.0-32-generic and amdgpu-pro the kernel have some problem with loading alx module for the ethernet interface when starting the PC. Thus manually load the alx module is needed for network to fully function again. This often happen with previous version of 16.04.x but not as often as now. This is so idiotic. First running ~/.xsession gets bork in lucid since .desktop files seems to be a better solution. Now you remove the .desktop file since 99% other people do not know what the special entry is. Perhaps revert back to how it was before like if you have ~/.xsession file then then run it? Sorry I do not have a ppa set up. *Just download the source with apt-get source gtk+2.0. *Remove the diff and dsc file *cd to debian/patches and edit the series file. Comment patch 064 with a # at the beginning. And then you build the package like you would. More information at MOTU page. If it complains about gnome-pkg-tools then just install that package. Why but why are there two places that the files are being kept? One in ~/.local/share/application and the other is ~/.config/menus I figured that top level entries are kept in config while the rest is in local. Assume I delete my Wine entry then I need to edit files in config to get it back. If I edit other stuff under Wine like programs then I need to edit the local to get it back.
