[Bug 1154527] [NEW] HTML Java applets do not start when the JAR(s) pathname(s) contain accented letters

2013-03-13 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

I downloaded a .zip file containing an HTML file and some JARs, and unzipped it
into my Downloads
directory on a typical Linux system. Since I am a non-English user, my
"Downloads" directory contains accented letters ("Letöltések").

I use the icedtea-plugin package under Ubuntu 12.10. I tried both Java 6
and 7.

Here is what I have in Firefox or Google Chrome ("tail -f ~/.xsession-
errors"):

The applet will not start, and I have to kill the OpenJDK process manually
since the web page will not respond any longer.

I use Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and icedtea-plugin 1.2-2ubuntu1.3.

oggenc is in the vorbis-tools package. So I had to install it first.

[Bug 636360] [NEW] X cannot be configured properly using nvidia-xconfig

2010-09-12 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

I installed the NVidia driver by using Ubuntu's jockey app
(automatically popped up by Ubuntu). The next reboot was failed to start
X and I was no longer able to use the laptop. This is an Asus K42JV
laptop with NVidia GT 335M.

As a workaround I deleted the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (it was created by
nvidia-xconfig), its content was as follows:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig:  version 1.0  (buildmeis...@builder75)  Thu Apr 22 11:44:23

As far I can check, the NVidia driver is not used by the system now.

[Bug 495880] Re: Extracting a file with german "Umlaut" in the filename doesn't work

2010-05-12 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Dear Developers,

I am very strongly convinced that this bug is a highly critical one. I
cannot unzip most .zip files in Ubuntu in the Gnome Desktop Environment
due to this bug. I can work around this problem because I can use the
command line version (unzip), but most users cannot. After a few
attempts MANY users will say they that Ubuntu is useless because such an
every day task cannot be solved in a convenient way.

PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Thanks!

yet (it is version 20090907).

I attach some log files as well.

And sorry, the VGA related output of "lspci -vvnn" (first I thought you
need "lspci -wnn" and it didn't work, so I used "v" instead of "w", but

[Bug 427744] [NEW] X fonts disappeared after update

2009-09-11 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

I did a normal update/upgrade on 2009-09-09 and when I restarted my
computer on 2009-09-10, almost all letters disappeared in X. This is
more or less documented on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7931196&posted=1#post7931196.
In my opinion one of the xserver backends (drivers) has a buggy update,
especially Intel driver. Another option is mesa, but I'm not sure. I
attached all my known details on ubuntuforums. Switching back to the
safe VESA mode I got the fonts working

Now we are using Ubuntu for print server as a final decision.

[Bug 299918] Re: Cannot print duplex in intrepid with Ricoh Aficio 2060, Ricoh Aficio MPC3000 or Brother HL-4050cdn using the openprinting drivers

2009-02-27 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Dear Till and All,

I run into a very similar problem on Debian Lenny. I understand that
this is the bug list for Ubuntu, but maybe someone can help me to fix my
problem. My printer is Ricoh Aficio 2035, no PS support is available
(only PXL).

I tried to create a new .deb package using the source Ubuntu package in
Intrepid (foomatic-filters_4.0.0-0ubuntu3). I successfully created the
package and installed on Lenny. Unfortunately I cannot print duplex
after the upgrade. Here are my related packages:

I also tried to get the newest PPD file from foomatic-db, so I copied
the Ricoh-Aficio_2035_PXL.ppd file from the foomatic-

My last idea is to use an Ubuntu server instead of Lenny for this
special purpose, but I am not sure that it will solve my problem,
because as I can understand, I already use the most recent software
responsible for printing.

Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

[Bug 232469] Re: Synaptic does not use proxy in some cases

2008-11-29 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Currently I'm unable to check the newest versions of the postinst files,
because I'm still using Feisty. Here I found the following postinst for
msttcorefonts:

---8X snip here ---
#!/bin/sh
set -e

. /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
#DEBHELPER#

db_get msttcorefonts/dldir
LOCALCOPY=$RET

db_get msttcorefonts/savedir

SAVEDIR=${RET:+-s$RET}

db_get msttcorefonts/dlurl
URLOVERRIDE=${RET:+-u$RET}

db_get msttcorefonts/http_proxy
HTTP_PROXY=${RET:+-p$RET}

if [ -e /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ms-fonts ] ; then
  cp -p /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ms-fonts /var/lib/msttcorefonts/ms-fonts
  rm -f /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ms-fonts
fi

if [ -d /var/state/msttcorefonts ] ; then
 cp -p /var/state/msttcorefonts/* /var/lib/msttcorefonts/ 2>/dev/null || true
 rm -rf /var/state/msttcorefonts/

 # It's not FHS, and it's probably our fault this is here,
 # so delete it if we can.
 rmdir /var/state/ 2> /dev/null || true
fi

# Since we moved the fonts from /usr/share/fonts/truetype to
#/usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts, run update-fonts-dir in
#/usr/share/fonts/truetype

update-fonts-dir truetype

update-ms-fonts $URLOVERRIDE $SAVEDIR $LOCALCOPY
---8X snip here ---

It seems that HTTP_PROXY should be substituted by http_proxy because
wget uses the lowercased variable. I am not sure if "export http_proxy"
is also needed after it is set.

In addition, flashplugin-nonfree also has a buggy postinst file (just a
part of it is copy-pasted):

---8X snip here ---
else # no local file

db_get flashplugin-nonfree/httpget
if [ "$RET" != "true" ]; then
fp_exit_with_error "download or license refused"
fi

# setting wget options
:> wgetrc
echo "noclobber = off" >> wgetrc
echo "dir_prefix = ." >> wgetrc
echo "dirstruct = off" >> wgetrc
echo "verbose = on" >> wgetrc
echo "progress = dot:default" >> wgetrc

# downloading the plugin
echo "Downloading..."
rm -f install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
if [ -f /home/bart/src/flashplugin-nonfree/bartm_debug ]; then
WGETRC=wgetrc wget
http://127.0.0.1/bart/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz \
|| fp_exit_with_error "download failed"
else
WGETRC=wgetrc wget
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
 \
|| fp_exit_with_error "download failed"
fi
rm -f wgetrc
echo "Download done."

fi # end if local file
---8X snip here ---

Obviously http_proxy is not set here.

[Bug 232469] Re: Synaptic does not use proxy in some cases

2008-11-29 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Not only synaptic is affected, but apt also in general. In fact, these
packages (msttcorefonts, flashplugin-nonfree and others) use wget to
download their own special files from the internet. I can consider that
these packages are not prepared for handling bad wget/apt communication
--- flashplugin-nonfree waits for available connection forever, however
msttcorefonts gives up trying after a specific timeout.

My idea for solution is:

Fix ALL .deb packages (postinst part) to set the http_proxy environment
variable from apt's setting (if it is defined).

If the proxy setting is configured well in apt (which also means
synaptic is configured properly) then all problematic packages will be
installed automagically.

[Bug 172263] You're Gone font is buggy

2007-11-27 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ttf-larabie-deco

In OpenOffice.org (2.2, Ubuntu Feisty) I started to use the You're Gone
font which is very nice. However, if I use special characters of it,
after saving and reloading the document (using a new instance of
OpenOffice), some characters are displayed incorrectly and bad kerning
may occur.

I usually use latin-2 fonts for Hungarian letters. But I also considered
that some standard latin characters may go wrong (including "F", "E" or
such). I'm not sure this is a font issue, however this is the first font
for me which I feel something going strangely bad.

[Bug 110722] bad mimetype detection through ssh if file extensions are not present

2007-04-28 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a simple UTF8 encoded file and a configure script. I would like
to edit the UTF8 encoded text file via ssh in Nautilus. But the file
types seems to be detected as binary (application/octet-stream). When I
download the files into my local file system, everything works well, the
first file is detected as a text/x-csrc and a text/x-shellscript.

This is bad for me, because I cannot edit these files through ssh in
nautilus:

Cannot open ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/home/kovzol/p/w2/configure: No
application suitable for automatic installation is available for
handling this kind of file.

In addition, I cannot add the Gnome Text Editor to this file type
because I get an error message:

"Nem lehet alkalmazást hozzáadni az alkalmazás-adatbázishoz", in
English: "Application cannot be added to the application database", or
so.

The simple UTF8 file has the name "COPYRIGHT". I experienced that if I
change the name to "COPYRIGHT.txt", then the file type will be detected
properly and I can edit this file in nautilus well.
