[Bug 204536] Re: sound volume always resets to 100% after reboot
Trying the ALSA and PULSE audio settings recommended on various sites had a strange result: the volume icon and slider show the preset volume (~40%) after boot, but the real, I mean audible volume is @ 100%. Simply clicking the volume slider will set the volume right. Another strange thing: today the clock/calendar items did't appear on startup, and the real volume was correct (40%)! Bringing back the clock with sudo killall unity-panel-service the volume reset to 100% while the slider still showed 40%. [Bug 978314] [NEW] [System Product Name, Realtek ALC892, Green Headphone Out, Front] Background noise or low volume
Public bug reported: Background noise is audible, even loud, as if the MB's audio chip's SNR was around 20dB instead of the stated 90dB. This noise is always clearly audible - when playing good quality media MP3, FLAC files or not so good quality media from Youtube or not playing any music/video at all. I experienced this problem since the latest Adobe Flash player 11.2.202.228 (partly) crashed my computer. It played the video but w/o audio from Youtube and other sites. After a crash like that I couldn't get any sound even from avi files played from HDD via whatever player I could find. After reinstalling Ubuntu and uninstalling GNASH, the flash player works in 60% of the cases, but no audio in the rest. Restarting the browser doesn't help, system restart is needed to get the sound back. Anyhow, I don't care about flash player issues, please advise on the background noise issue.
