I see. That was a long time ago, our setup has changed a lot since then, and we obviously found workarounds. So I am not able to reproduce the problem exactly. Maybe some confusion with pip(3) Please close the bug, I will open a new one if problem occours again. Thx! [Bug 762306] Re: Doesn't follow XDG_CACHE_HOME
file-roller should use $XDG_CACHE_HOME or have an option to select a different directory for caching. When users' home directories are on a remote machine and mounted via NFS, then file-rollers' habit of creating ~/.fr-* directories, extracting there and moving back the result creates huge i/o-loads. If $XDG_CACHE_HOME would be used, one could direct ~/.cache to some local directory (which we already did). [Bug 1680726] [NEW] Xorg.freeze
Public bug reported: We cannot login via lightdm if we wait too long after boot: Cursor in password input field stops blinking and if user inputs password anyways, then pc freezes. No switcht go VT or login via ssh possible. Only magic sysreq helps for rebooting. When user switches to a virtual terminal via ctrl-alt-F(1..6) and back into gui, then the cursor is blinking again and everything is normal. Confirm this for 12.04 with hwe and trusty-kernel (linux-3.13.0-32-generic #57~precise1-Ubuntu) We have less than 100 ldap users and under 100 groups. On some clients here we have to use hwe with a newer kernel to support the hardware. And on exactly those and only those clients from time to time gid and/or uid shows up with 4294967294 for some or all home directories. gid/uid is ok on the other 12.04 clients with default kernel (3.2.0-67-generic #101-Ubuntu) So this too seems to point towards a bug or misconfiguration with Kernel 3.13 user-keys show e.g. 0: 110 109/109 102/200 3778/2 so quota isn't reached by far. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1124250 Title: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/1124250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1169518] [NEW] Lightdm doesn't remember last users by default

Am 19.03.2013 19:21, schrieb Gunnar Hjalmarsson: Can it possibly be something as simple as settings of environment variables in e.g. ~/.profile or ~/.bashrc ? If so, and even if ~/.pam_environment is read as expected, such settings would override ~/.pam_environment, so to say. It should be noted that before 12.04, language settings via Language Support were saved in ~/.profile. There is migration code that should have cleaned up ~/.profile from such entries, but still... Ok, I found it. So simple that it makes one laugh/cry: Our users' home directories have been created without execution bits by 'DIR_MODE=700' in /etc/adduser, since years obviously. Never noticed that, it never was an issue. The ones of the test users have been created by myself and they were 755, that's why they worked. Ok, after chmodding all of our homes, your accountsservice package seems to work (at least on 5 pcs with 5 accounts. And yes, I checked: without your package the language settings still didn't work) So how about your repo, is it safe to add it on all our machines, or are there be more experimental changes to be expected? Best would be your package would flow back into Ubuntu Precise. Thanks a lot for your work Gunnar! Am 19.03.2013 12:10, schrieb Gunnar Hjalmarsson: Thanks for your help to improve Ubuntu by reporting this bug! The problem with incorrect failures in accountsservice when HOME is on NFS was also reported in bug 1083605, and a fix has been uploaded to Ubuntu 13.04. I attach a patch with a fix for 12.04. accountsservice builds for 12.04 (Precise) including the fix are available in my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/misc Lars, can you please install that version of accountsservice and let us know if it fixes the issue for you. Partly. :-\ ~/.pam_environment gets written now but it doesn't get read in every case. I am testing with two test accounts and my own one on two different clients: Only with *one* of the accounts the language settings are respected. Although ~/.pam_envirment gets written when changing settings it seems to be ignored by two of the three identities. On *both* machines. I have no idea why... ~/.profile are identical, copying .pam_enviroment doesn't help either. On one of the clients I added the infamous 'session required pam_env.so' at the end of /etc/pam.d/common-sesion but that didn't help either. Any ideas? [Bug 1156670] Re: Cannot chose language with home on nfs export
Must be something in the home directories: I completely deleted the ~ of the not working test account and had a new one created, now the language settings work there. So it is a matter of finding the bad settings file, can't delete all my users' home dirs. ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1156670 Title: Cannot chose language with home on nfs export To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/1156670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1156670] [NEW] Cannot chose language with home on nfs export
Public bug reported: There is no possibility to choose language in an interactive way in Ubuntu 12.04, neither with XFCE4 nor with Gnome, neither with lightdm nor with GDM3 when home dirs aren't on local drive. Error message: gdm-session-worker[2009]: AccountsService-WARNING: SetLanguage call failed: not access to HOME yet so language not saved That's a bummer, I have users from all over the world, they need to be able to choose their own language. [Bug 1086331] [NEW] Last session type doesn't get recorded
Public bug reported: In an NFS4 with ldap-auth environment the last session type doesn't get recorded per user. The default session (Xubuntu in our case) is pre- selected, whatever session one last used. Not sure if that is a bug in lightdm or accountsservice.
