I can answer for 68.10.0 that the problem does not occur anymore (but
our setup changed since then, additionally using kerberos)

Re: [Bug 1831980] Re: jupyter-notebooks needs additional packages: python-{zmq, jinja2, tornado}

2020-12-02 Thread Lars Behrens
I see. That was a long time ago, our setup has changed a lot since
then, and we obviously found workarounds. So I am not able to reproduce
the problem exactly. Maybe some confusion with pip(3)

Please close the bug, I will open a new one if problem occours again.
Thx!

2019-07-11 Thread Lars Behrens
Sorry to say that unfortunately it's not working here. Authentication
through ntlm still not working:

- installed package from proposed:

---
libsoup2.4 (2.62.1-1ubuntu0.2) bionic; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches/git_ntlmv2_support.patch,
debian/patches/git_ntlmv2_test.patch:
- include upstream changes for NTLMv2 responses support, that's
required for evolution-ews to be able to connect some exchange
servers, also include corresponding code tests
  (lp: #1817537)

 -- Sebastien Bacher Tue, 09 Jul 2019 17:00:43

- rebooted

- same problem: using ntlm in Evolution still not possible,
authentication not working.

Thanks for your work!

[Bug 1831980] [NEW] jupyter-notebooks needs additional packages: python-{zmq, jinja2, tornado}

2019-06-07 Thread Lars Behrens

[Bug 762306] Re: Doesn't follow XDG_CACHE_HOME

2018-11-02 Thread Lars Behrens
file-roller should use $XDG_CACHE_HOME or have an option to select a
different directory for caching.

When users' home directories are on a remote machine and mounted via
NFS, then file-rollers' habit of creating ~/.fr-* directories,
extracting there and moving back the result creates huge i/o-loads.

If $XDG_CACHE_HOME would be used, one could direct ~/.cache to some
local directory (which we already did).

If that's not possible maybe there is a possibility to define a
different extracting directory, e.g. by start variable or in the menu.

[Bug 1745349] [NEW] Hard lockup during boot with linux-image-4.4.0-112-generic

2018-01-25 Thread Lars Behrens
Public bug reported:

Systems on ASUS H110M-C Boards don't boot here with Kernel 4.4.0-112
instead they show

NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected hard lockup on cpu 0
NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected hard lockup on cpu 1
NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected hard lockup on cpu 3
NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected hard lockup on cpu 2

I cannot provide any logs of course.

Booting with 4.4.0-109 works.

[Bug 1680726] [NEW] Xorg.freeze

2017-04-07 Thread Lars Behrens
Public bug reported:

We cannot login via lightdm if we wait too long after boot:

Cursor in password input field stops blinking and if user inputs password
anyways, then pc freezes. No switcht go VT or login via ssh possible. Only
magic sysreq helps for rebooting.
When user switches to a virtual terminal via ctrl-alt-F(1..6) and back into
gui, then the cursor is blinking again and everything is normal.

As far as I can see there is no official 3.13.0-37 anyway:

Where did you get it from? I am pretty sure that the fix from #12 still

Are you saying that you can *not* mount with the test kernel

Mounting a share with mount.cifs fails with
  'mount error(5): Input/output error'

  Mounting through gigolo (smbclient) works

Mounting the same share works with the last kernel 3.13.0-35-generic
I have tried adding sec=ntlm and sec=ntlmv2 to the options, but that does not
help.

[Bug 1373473] [NEW] mount.cifs fails witch actual kernel

2014-09-24 Thread Lars Behrens
Public bug reported:

Mounting a share with mount.cifs fails with
'mount error(5): Input/output error'

Mounting through gigolo (smbclient) works

Mounting the same share works with the last kernel 3.13.0-35-generic
I have tried adding sec=ntlm and sec=ntlmv2 to the options, but that does not
help.

[Bug 1124250] Re: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2014-08-08 Thread Lars Behrens
Confirm this for 12.04 with hwe and trusty-kernel
(linux-3.13.0-32-generic #57~precise1-Ubuntu)

We have less than 100 ldap users and under 100 groups.
On some clients here we have to use hwe with a newer kernel to support the
hardware.
And on exactly those and only those clients from time to time gid and/or uid
shows up with 4294967294 for some or all home directories.

gid/uid is ok on the other 12.04 clients with default kernel
(3.2.0-67-generic #101-Ubuntu)

So this too seems to point towards a bug or misconfiguration with Kernel
3.13

user-keys show e.g. 0: 110 109/109 102/200 3778/2 so quota isn't
reached by far.

Thanks!

The latest change in accountsservice makes it possible to set language
(and regional formats) when on NFS. It has nothing to do with whether
 lightdm remembers the last user.

Yes, one should think so. But it is like I told, which isn't a great
thing for me personally. But anyone who is dealing with real world users
knows that they are easily scared. :-)

If you need to edit /etc/pam.d/lightdm as you say, isn't that a bug? If
you agree, it would be great if you could file a new bug report about
 that particular problem.

Yes, sure, but I am just about to test that. I found it in an already
existing bug report anyways (which I forgot to bookmark unfortunately).

Cheerz!

[Bug 1169518] [NEW] Lightdm doesn't remember last users by default

2013-04-16 Thread Lars Behrens
Public bug reported:

By default lightdm doesn't remember the last users here, I'm not sure if
it is because we are in an nfs4+ldap environment, for I have never
witnessed that on pcs with only local users.

Putting 'session optional pam_lastlog.so' into /etc/pam.d/lightdm helps
and all the last users are displayed then. So it might be useful to put
that in by default.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1156670] Re: Cannot chose language with home on nfs export

2013-04-15 Thread Lars Behrens
Bug seems fixed here with

accountsservice_0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6_amd64.deb
gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0_0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6_amd64.deb
libaccountsservice0_0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6_amd64.deb

on two machines with 3 accounts, so I assume it will work everywhere.
How do I add a tag here?

Thanks!

Just a sidenote after I finally have managed to get lightdm to remember
the last users by adding session optionalpam_lastlog.so to
/etc/pam.d/lightdm, this list gets emptied out after installation of the
your accountsservice package. It seems that after one more login the
users stay in the list again. Would really like to now what is going on
behind the scenes there.

Obviously there is a difference, because since today we have

I'm really starting to get tired of Ubuntu as a professionell system.

I'm trying to find your deb just to find out if the lightdm package is

 ~/.pam_environment, so to say.

It should be noted that before 12.04, language settings via Language
Support were saved in ~/.profile. There is migration code that should
have cleaned up ~/.profile from such entries, but still...

Ok, I found it. So simple that it makes one laugh/cry: Our users' home
directories have been created without execution bits by 'DIR_MODE=700'
in /etc/adduser, since years obviously. Never noticed that, it never was
an issue.

The ones of the test users have been created by myself and they were
755, that's why they worked.

Ok, after chmodding all of our homes, your accountsservice package seems
to work (at least on 5 pcs with 5 accounts. And yes, I checked: without
your package the language settings still didn't work)

So how about your repo, is it safe to add it on all our machines, or are
there be more experimental changes to be expected? Best would be your
package would flow back into Ubuntu Precise.

Thanks a lot for your work Gunnar!

Thanks for your help to improve Ubuntu by reporting this bug!

The problem with incorrect failures in accountsservice when HOME is

accountsservice builds for 12.04 (Precise) including the fix are
available in my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/misc
Lars, can you please install that version of accountsservice and let
us know if it fixes the issue for you.

Partly. :-\

~/.pam_environment gets written now but it doesn't get read in every
case.

I am testing with two test accounts and my own one on two different
clients: Only with *one* of the accounts the language settings are
respected. Although ~/.pam_envirment gets written when changing settings
it seems to be ignored by two of the three identities. On *both* machines.

I have no idea why... ~/.profile are identical, copying .pam_enviroment
doesn't help either.

On one of the clients I added the infamous
'session required pam_env.so' at the end of /etc/pam.d/common-sesion
but that didn't help either.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your work and brains so far!

[Bug 1156670] Re: Cannot chose language with home on nfs export

Must be something in the home directories:
I completely deleted the ~ of the not working test account and had a new one
created, now the language settings work there.
So it is a matter of finding the bad settings file, can't delete all my users'
home dirs. ;-)

[Bug 1156670] [NEW] Cannot chose language with home on nfs export
