[Bug 1777166] Re: dependency from linux-image-generic to intel-microcode breaks suspend mode on some hardware

2018-06-15 Thread Lars Bischoff
** Description changed:

- For Ubuntu 18.04 recently new dependencies have been added from linux-
- image-generic to intel-microcode and amd64-microcode.
+ For Ubuntu 18.04 recently (since kernel 4.15.0.23) new dependencies have
+ been added from linux-image-generic to intel-microcode and
+ amd64-microcode.

Problem with that is that at least intel-microcode is not compatible with all
hardware:
For my good old Acer Travelmate 292 (Pentium M Machine), the intel-microcode
package breaks the suspend-to-ram mode: On wakeup system is re-booting
completely, when this package is installed.

Therefore I'd like to request to change this hard dependency to just a
recommended one, such that I can easily uninstall intel-microcode again.

[Bug 1638719] Re: Widevine crashes on Firefox 49.0.2 and Ubuntu 16.10

2016-11-27 Thread Lars Bischoff
Got Netflix working again with Firefox 50.
I had to adjust the User Agent (using "User-Agent Switcher" plug-in) to:
Linux / Chrome 53: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.11
(KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.34 Safari/537.36

And I do not need the "export MOZ_DISABLE_GMP_SANDBOX=1" workaround
anymore, which helped to avoid a crash with 49.0.2. when widevine was
started (after Ubuntu 16.10 upgrade). I guess this issue was related to
problem described here.

Which User Agent are you using? (since the "real" one is still not excepted by

I had the same issue with Firefox 49.0.2 but could workaround it by
setting:

export MOZ_DISABLE_GMP_SANDBOX=1

Now with Firefox 50 this does not help anymore. :-(
Now Netflix always gives error code "M7363-1260" when trying to play a video.

(I'm faking User Agent to Chrome on Linux, which worked nicely with
older 49 versions)

[Bug 1634250] Re: KMahjongg: dependency missing to kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5

2016-11-23 Thread Lars Bischoff
I've tested installing KMahjongg 4:16.04.3-0ubuntu1.1 (yakkety-
proposed):

1st I de-installed both: KMahjongg and the manually installed
kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5.
Then I tried to freshly install "KMahjongg" using apt-get install and Muon.

With both tools this was successful. The dependency kdegames-mahjongg-
data-kf5 got also automatically installed and the game worked out of the
box.

[Bug 1614308] Re: kwin crashes when booting from Kubuntu 16.04 32bit Live-DVD

2016-10-23 Thread Lars Bischoff
After some experimenting and google'ing, I think I figured out, what the
reason for this issue is:

kwin of Plasma 5 seems to require the "SSE2" CPU extension, which my
Athlon XP 3000+ CPU does not have (it just has MMX, 3DNow! and SSE).

See also here:
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15594
This sounds very related to my issue.

So now the question is:
Is it intended that Kubuntu with Plasma 5 only runs on SSE2 CPUs or is it a bug
(maybe wrong Package used?)

If it is intended, then this should be
  1) communicated on the web-page!
  2) catched during Live-DVD boot instead of letting kwin crash.
If it is a bug, it should be fixed of course. :-)

I hope for the latter because I would really love to run Plasma 5 /
Kubuntu on that particular machine.

** Bug watch added: bugs.mageia.org/ #15594
   https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15594

** Summary changed:

- kwin crashes when booting from Kubuntu 16.04 32bit Live-DVD
+ Booting from Kubuntu >=16.04 32bit Live-DVD crashes on CPUs w/o SSE2

** Description changed:

When booting from a freshly burned Live DVD using images
- kubuntu-16.04-desktop-i386.iso or
- kubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
+  kubuntu-16.04-desktop-i386.iso or
+  kubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
kwin always crashes on my system.

Booting works fine until the plasma background image is appearing.
Also the selection window whether you want to "try" or "install" Kubuntu
shows up, but only without window frame. At about the same time I get a crash
notification that kwin has crashed.
If I click on "restart" in the crash notification, then after some trials
another window (without frame) says: "KWin is unstable. It seems to have
crashed several times in a row." and suggests to select another window manager.
Of course the Kubuntu ISO does not contain another window manager.

  The used hardware is:
  AMD Athlon XP 3000+ CPU
  VIA KT400 Chipset
  Mainboard MSI KT4V-L
Gfx: nVidia Geforce 7600 GT (AGP8x card: XFX GF 7600 GT 560M 256MB)

BTW: Booting Ubuntu 16.04 32bit DOES work on the very same system.
+
+
+ Update, 2016-10-23:
+ It turned out that it is highly likely that this issue is caused by the
missing "SSE2" support of the CPU in question.
+ Is kwin supposed to not work on non SSE2 CPUs ??

[Bug 1634250] [NEW] KMahjongg: dependency missing to kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5

2016-10-17 Thread Lars Bischoff
Public bug reported:

After update to Kubuntu 16.10 KMahjongg starts only with an empty
window, due to missing kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5 package.

The dependency to "kdegames-mahjongg-data" was obviously removed but the
one to "kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5" not added.

After manually installing kdegames-mahjongg-data-kf5 KMahjongg works
again.

System boots fine until the selection of "trying" or "installing" Kubuntu.
If I select "try", system continues, finally shows the KDE login splash, then
ends up with a black screen and visible mouse pointer.

Plasma seems to be active though: Moving the Mouse to the upper left
edge highlights the active corner. But there is no pop-up menu on right
  click.

If I now press the power button, the log out dialog shows up. Confirming
that, the log in screen is displayed.

After adding the default panel manually I can work as usual with the

Just tested yakkety-desktop-i386.iso from 06-Oct-2016 both in VirtualBox and on

Issue is still exactly the same as described above.

@Woko: I also doubt that this is related, because this issue here is completely
unrelated to UEFI!
Remember that we are only talking about the 32bit ISO running in VirtualBox or
on ancient hardware.

[Bug 1627348] Re: Live DVD boots to black screen with mouse pointer

2016-09-26 Thread Lars Bischoff
** Description changed:

I've tested booting from the Kubuntu 16.10 beta ISO on a
  Acer Travelmate 290, 1,8GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, Mob. Radeon 9700 Gfx.

If I now press the power button, the log out dialog shows up. Confirming
that, the log in screen is displayed.

- If I know login again, I end up with an empty KDE Desktop, no panel.
- After adding the default panel manual I can work as usual with the Live
- Session.
+ If I now login again, I end up with an empty KDE Desktop, no panel.

[Bug 1614308] Re: kwin crashes when booting from Kubuntu 16.04 32bit Live-DVD

2016-09-11 Thread Lars Bischoff
1st thought was, that this might be related to the nVidea GFX Card.
But replacing it by a Radeon HD 3450 did not help.
kwin crashes in the exactly same way as with the nVidea card.

2016-09-11 Thread Lars Bischoff
next trial was booting from Kubuntu 14.04.5 LTS Live DVD.
And that indeed works nicely on the mentioned hardware.

[Bug 1614308] [NEW] kwin crashes when booting from Kubuntu 16.04 32bit Live-DVD

2016-08-17 Thread Lars Bischoff
Public bug reported:

When booting from a freshly burned Live DVD using images
 kubuntu-16.04-desktop-i386.iso or
 kubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
kwin always crashes on my system.

Booting works fine until the plasma background image is appearing.
Also the selection window whether you want to "try" or "install" Kubuntu shows
up, but only without window frame.
