[Bug 1047384] Re: System Encryption Password set before setting keyboard locale

2013-11-28 Thread Lars J. Nielsen
James Bennet (#10):
By the way, this can be triaged by doing the following on the next boot (if
you could get access, but it was just not the key you expected i.e. in my case)

cryptsetup -y luksAddKey /dev/sda[x]
sudo cryptsetup luksRemoveKey /dev/sda[x] 0

Check with:

sudo cryptsetup luksDump /dev/sda5

How is this supposed to be read?
Do I replace [x] with a number and if so, which one? My fstab doesn't list
drives like that.

I'll echo the others in asking how this is only medium importance when
it is this annoying to fix for users and has been in several releases
(I'm on 13.10 desktop). And the arguments about it being faster to
install when you can do some of the work in the background while the
user fills in things is not a good one when for many of the security
conscious users it means another reinstallation or more to make it work,
maybe even resulting in some giving up enabling the feature or finding
another distribution instead. Ubuntu is supposed to be one of the easy
distributions, user confusing errors like this one are not acceptable
for more than one release, if even that.

I'm tired of reinstalling because I forget about this (twice now), and
because of silly things like enabling encryption of the home directory
and then wanting to change user name (not just the displayed name but
all the uses of the username) and it being easier to reinstall because
the GUI tool doesn't do all that and there is no good documentation on
how to do it manually for encrypted home directories.

[Bug 571146] [NEW] Authentication window does not take focus when mounting drive through Places menu

2010-04-28 Thread Lars J. Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: 9.10
Desktop system: Gnome 2.28.1 build date 2009-11-03

Issue: Authentication window does not take focus when mounting drive
through Places menu, this is a problem if the user does not notice this
and the currently active application is an IRC/IM client or saves its
input to disk automatically.

How to reproduce:
1) Connect drive that needs authentication to mount(E-SATA HDD in my case).
2) Click places.
3) Click on the drive.
4) Notice that the previous application still has focus.

[Bug 559976] [NEW] Could not initialize the application's security component.

2010-04-10 Thread Lars J. Nielsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I just upgraded from Firefox 3.5.8 to 3.5.9.
Now I'm getting this error before the main windows is visible everytime I start
of the browser:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most
likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile
directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write
restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is
recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you
continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application
behaviour when accessing security features.

I've tried making a backup on my default profile and doinf chmod -R 777
on the default profile and it didn't change anything so I've restored
from the backup again.
