[Bug 1530187] Re: r852 & r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2016-01-01 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Christopher, I am not sure regarding your proposed strategy...
Let me explained :
- when I first discovered & reported this issue, I was using Ubuntu 15.04 /
kernel 3.19.0-28-generic #30-Ubuntu on x86_64
- then I thought it was resolved when upgrading to kernel 3.19.0-39-generic
(now I more think that I had some luck it did not appear as I am actually not
able to reproduce it easily)
- I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10 / kernel 4.2.0-22-generic and the issue is still
there
- I tested latest mainline kernel 4.4-rc7, issue is present

To me, applying bisect on the 3.19-4.2 range will probably not lead to
any good result as I expect all kernels to show up the issue.

I would rather look for issues on the 3.16-3.19 range...

Let me know if I missed something.

[Bug 1530187] Re: r852 & r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-12-31 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
I tested on latest available kernel as suggested by Christopher.
Issue is still present on kernel v4.4-rc7-wily
I got more or less the same stack trace when inserting an SD card. However, I
got the stack trace once, not repeatedly. Or maybe I did not wait enough time.
Gordon Dickens mentionned he had to wait some time (~7h) before the issue to
occur. He also mentionned that it could be related to doing suspend/resume, but
I am not able to test that with this kernel (my machine starts to suspend but
then it seems stuck at some point, and it never shuts).
I hope it will help to fix it.
For my personal usage, I only use the SD card reader (no XD and no
MemoryStick), so I guess I could blacklist both r592 and r852 modules but I
guess it would be nice to have a better fix for others (or for me once I will
have discovered an old XD/MS to read !)

[Bug 1530187] [NEW] r852 & r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-12-30 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have many crash messages related to r852 & r592 modules in my syslog files.
I had already submitted a bug report for that (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1500156 ) but since that
time, I upgraded to 15.10. The issue is still there, but displayed a bit
differently (stack trace now).
This issue slows down the machine and can also lead to a disk full in /var/log
I guess. My current syslog is about 4GB large and is 1 day old.

Typical messages I get :
[104370.032867] r592: IRQ: card added
[104370.032873] r592: IRQ: DMA error

I've read some posts/other bug reports related to the same issue :

http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2014-08/msg01076.html

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1119361

https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1907131=1

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892249

I would be glad if some solution is proposed to stop filling these logs
!

Cheers,

Laurent

[Bug 1500156] Re: r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-12-13 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
I am back with this issue : it is back :-(
My kernel evolved since last time : 3.19.0-39-generic
Looking at syslog, it restarted to show up on 09-dec-2015. I do not know if it
is following an update or if it is triggered by something...
How can we progress on it ?

[Bug 1500156] Re: r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-09-29 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
I was about to test latest upstream kernel as suggested by Christopher,
but I guess it is not needed anymore : today's automatic updates
contained a new kernel (3.19.0-30-generic) that seems to solve the issue
(no more IRQ msg).

Thanks for taking care of it

** Description changed:

  Hi,
Since some recent time, my log files (syslog & kern.log) grow huge, making
the computer unusable when it performs logrotate operations.
Having a look to that, I see it contains many many lines :
  Sep 27 09:50:44 mmb-laptop kernel: [42839.496635] r592: IRQ: DMA error
  Sep 27 09:50:44 mmb-laptop kernel: [42839.599027] r592: IRQ: card added

It seems related to this device : Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host
Adapter (rev 12)
I do not use it and I do not need it for now.

I am using Ubuntu 15.04 with latest updates (as of 27-sep-2015), kernel

[Bug 1500156] [NEW] r592 IRQ: DMA errors cause log files to grow *HUGE*

2015-09-27 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Public bug reported:

Hi,
Since some recent time, my log files (syslog & kern.log) grow huge, making the
computer unusable when it performs logrotate operations.

3.19.0-28-generic #30-Ubuntu on x86_64.

I've read some posts/other bug reports related to the same issue :

http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2014-08/msg01076.html

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1119361

https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1907131=1

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892249

I would be glad if some solution is proposed to stop filling these logs
!

Cheers,

Laurent

[Bug 651935] Re: [STAGING] kernel-oops following wireless problems (rt3090)

2010-12-27 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
I also experience same issue when toggling wifi off--on--on (using
Fn+F2 on Asus eeepc 1001HA).

Gary, can you please let me know where and how to blacklist the unneeded
modules ? In /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf ?
I've identified on my side the following loaded modules:
rt2860sta -- to keep
rt2800pci
rt2800lib
rt2x00usb
rt2x00pci
rt2x00lib

[Bug 664717] [NEW] touchpad on/off hotkeys do not work anymore after upgrading to Maverick 10.10

2010-10-21 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Maverick 10.10, the 2 special keys that were formerly
working with Lucid 10.04 do not work anymore.
These two keys are:
- one dedicated keyboard button
- the Fn+F9 combination

These hotkeys are supposed to enable/disable the touchpad (same behavior
for both keys).

xev returns the following info when pressing either hotkey:

lmart...@mmb-laptop:~$ xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode
*\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
keycode 191 = (keysym 0x1008ff81, XF86Tools), state = 0x10
keycode 191 = (keysym 0x1008ff81, XF86Tools), state = 0x10

All other hotkeys work as with Lucid 10.04.

[Bug 558628] Re: [lucid] not all hotkeys run in asus eeepc 1001ha

2010-05-02 Thread Laurent Martin-Borret
Hi,

Hi, I have the same hardware (Asus Eeepc 1001HA), and upgraded from karmic to
UNR lucid lynx.
Same thing for me, Fn+F3/F10/F11/F12 do not work.

Moreover, Fn+F2 (enable/disable wifi) does not work either.

All these Fn combinations were working well with Karmic.
