[Bug 700138] Re: Cannot resume from suspend

2011-02-24 Thread Leif Andersen
Thank you Jeremy. I would be happy to try the latest ISOs, although
this is a prediction machine and it will likely be a few weeks before I
can actually wipe everything and try it. (Well, unless the liveCD is
capable of suspending a machine, I will certainly try that).

Thank you for the other idea. I will tries these ASAP.

[Bug 700138] [NEW] Cannot resume from suspend

2011-01-07 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

In the Sony Vaio VPC EB 11fm, on ubuntu 10.10 specifically (10.04 worked
fine), you cannot suspend the machine, or more specifically, you cannot
resume from a suspend. Hitting the suspend button puts the computer in
the usual low level power statue as expected, but when the power button
is pressed to resume the machine, it boots up as if it was shut down.

I'm not certain if it's upstart, or a kernel bug that would cause this,
but I've now gone through several kernels (although all of them from the
default update channel), and the problem seems to persist. Again, it
worked fine in ubuntu 10.04.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 698873] [NEW] Screen Brightness not working in Sony Vaio

2011-01-06 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I thought I already submitted this bug, but I can't find it anywhere on
my profile.

The screen brightness buttons don't work in ubuntu 10.10. I'm not sure
what package this is in, but I would imagine it's in xorg. Note though
that when I unplug the machine, the screen brightness dims (unless I
uncheck it in the power manager), and when I turn up and down the
brightness nob in the power manager, it does go up and down, but the
screen will not become brighter/dimmer when pressing the command keys to
do so. (So maybe it's just an issue with the key bindings?).

I am running ubuntu 10.10, and it previously worked fine in ubuntu 10.04

This issue seems to be resolved in later versions of ubuntu. (10.04.1,
and 10.10). But it looks like the rest of you are having problems
still.

[Bug 681833] [NEW] Screen Brightness not working in Sony Vaio

2010-11-26 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

I have a Sony Vaio VPC EB11FM, on it the keys to control screen
brightness (Fn+F5/6) don't do anything. I'm not exactly sure what's
causing this, so I apologize if I included the wrong packages. Also, if
I go into the power manager, and play with the screen brightness knobs,
the brightness does actually change.

Thank you.

[Bug 569071] [NEW] [Realtek ALC269] ALSA test tone not correctly played back, still [possible solution included]

2010-04-23 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

I submitted this as a bug back in beta 1. It was then marked as a
duplicate as a similar (but slightly different) bug, and then it was
closed. However, in the RC, it still doesn't work. Again, the driver
seems to exist, but there is one slight problem with the auto-configure
error. Here is what need's to be fixed:

I had an SD card inserted into it right before the test. Anyway, I
don't think it matters now, because as you predicted, in Beta 2, it did
work as expected (i.e. both devices mounted), thank you, now I get to
figure out how to close this. :)

[Bug 554391] [NEW] Xorg freeze with Desktop Effects Enabled

2010-04-02 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

In Ubuntu 10.04, on an i3 processor with 2.13 GHz, and an Intel
Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator, I cannot run the Desktop Effects.
I can turn them on, but about every hour or so, the computer will
freeze. I though it might be the CPU getting too hot, however, it
doesn't appear that there isn't any hooks for me to see what the
temperature is. Also, when they are turned off, I can run 3d programs
just fine without crashing the system, which causes me to believe that
it's a problem with the effects themselves.

[Bug 554364] [NEW] [Realtek ALC269] Playback problem [Sony Vaio VPCEB11FM] [Possible Solution Included

2010-04-02 Thread Leif Andersen
Public bug reported:

No audio comes out of the speakers in the Sony VAIO VPCEB11FM, except
for a nearly inaudible ammount when the headphones are plugged in, and
the audio is up to it's max. However, with the HDA Analyzer, found
here: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/HDA_Analyzer the
problem was related to Pin 19 (what that means, I don't really know).
Anyway, here is a diff that it gives:

[Bug 525149] Re: [Realtek ID 275] No audio Sony VAIO VPCs111FM Lucid A2

2010-04-01 Thread Leif Andersen
Installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic didn't work.
Again though, the diff in my comment did...although I have to redo it
every time I reboot.

Oh, here is a diff of what I needed to do to get it working. Maybe one
of you will actually be able to understand this:

[Bug 525149] Re: [Realtek ID 275] No audio Sony VAIO VPCs111FM Lucid A2

2010-03-27 Thread Leif Andersen
I can't install the package linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic, it
gives the following error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic: Depends:
linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.32-17-generic but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

And I can't install linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.32-17-generic, as
there is no installation candidate.

I was get a temporary fix, by downloading this: http://www.alsa-
project.org/main/index.php/HDA_Analyzer

And switching node 19:VRef, from 80 to HIZ. However, it resets
everytime the machine reboots.
