[Bug 1161088] [NEW] Computer freezes shortly (GUI) and sometimes freezes completely
Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 on a Dell Latitude E6520 with Intel Sandy Bridge CPU/GPU (no additional GPU). The issue was not present on 11.10 and it started appearing only a few days ago on 12.04. So, until a few days ago, Ubuntu 12.04 was fine as well. The computer freezes (Unity GUI) for a few seconds, no reaction to any keyboard input, the cursor still moves, but no reaction on any mouse buttons. Most of the time, the system recovers and continues to work as before, sometimes it did freeze completely and required a hard reboot (power off and on again). If the system recovers, the following dmesg entries can be observed: [..] [ 4351.356564] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... [Bug 563895] Re: grub2 fails to boot or install when an LVM snapshot exists
Upgraded from maverick to natty and had a similar issue: - bootfs is ext3, rootfs ext4 - both are logical volumes on top of raid1 - did snapshots of root boot before upgrade and it worked for the first reboot After that, grub2 just booted the menu entry, did a lot of hdd access and stoped w/o any errors or messages. I could get the kernel initramfs loaded by striping the menu entry down to: insmod part_msdos, raid, lvm, ext2 root (vg-device) kernel... initramfs... but mounting the rootfs failed within initramfs and it dropped to a shell. mounting the logical volume (roots) within that shell worked. changing the filesystem UUIDs within my snapshots of rootfs boot didnt change anything. after deleting both snapshots, grub2 initramfs booted w/o any error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563895 Title: grub2 fails to boot or install when an LVM snapshot exists -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 658205] [NEW] update-manager overwrites sources.list on dist-upgrade without user confirmation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager When using a custom sources.list (like with local mirrors) update-manager asks, whether it should automatically rewrite your sources.list. When answering No, update-manager writes its default sources.list anyways. Additionally it seems to do an update of the local package database/ package keys, too. This results in: ubuntu-bug -f update-manager claiming that update-manager is not a genuine ubuntu package.
